Players report a throwing-weapon price cut at vendor Ariyell Skyshadow on the beta

Players' ForeverDB addons reported that the throwing-weapon vendor Ariyell Skyshadow was charging far less than the beta client lists on 13 October (one player saw the client prices again on 16 October), with eight items dropping from as much as 2g 48s 11c down to 8s. Blizzard hasn't announced it.

Player reports, not confirmed by Blizzard. The before-and-after prices below are what players' addons saw at the vendor in game, not a Blizzard post. Vendor prices are set on Blizzard's servers, so a change like this does not show up in the downloaded game files.

On 13 October, players' ForeverDB addons reported that Ariyell Skyshadow, the Weapon Merchant in Darnassus (Alliance), was selling a set of thrown weapons for much less than the price listed in the Forever beta client. The addon compares the vendor price it sees in game against the client's listed price, and flagged eight items at once. It looks like a hotfix that lowered the prices without a new client build, and not only at her: players' addons logged the same new prices at other vendors from 3 October, such as Eleanor Rusk.

What players' addons saw

Each line below is the client's listed price, then the price the addon saw at the vendor:

This was seen by 2 players (1 with an account) across 2 uploads, all on 13 October. On 16 October one player's addon saw her selling them at the client prices again, which is also unconfirmed. That is a small sample, so treat it as a report, not a confirmed change.

What the client says

All eight are thrown weapons in the beta client (weapon class, Thrown), the ranged-slot items that Warriors, Hunters and Rogues can use. The client lists their vendor sell prices (players' uploads covered the buy price only): Gleaming Throwing Axe and Wicked Throwing Dagger sell for 49s 62c, Heavy Throwing Dagger for 15s 18c, Keen Throwing Knife for 3s 66c, Balanced Throwing Dagger and Weighted Throwing Axe for 59c, and Small Throwing Knife and Crude Throwing Axe for 8c. The client's buy prices are five times those sell prices, the usual vendor markup. The new prices players saw are well below that, and for the pricier axes and daggers they are even below the item's sell price.

Speculation. If this is a real change, it reads like a move to make throwing weapons cheap at every level for Warriors, Hunters and Rogues (the biggest cuts are on the level 22 and 35 items), so a ranged attack costs very little while leveling. Blizzard hasn't given a reason, or said whether it is a deliberate change or a bug, so this is only a guess.

We'll update this page if more players' uploads confirm the same prices, or if a new build or a Blizzard post settles it. Everything the addons spot in game is on our Live World and change tracking.
