What this check can and can't see
Once a minute our server opens a plain connection to Blizzard's login server for the beta (test.actual.battle.net, port 1119) and closes it again: no login and no data, just whether it answers and how fast. If it doesn't answer, nobody can log in.
It can't see past that door. The login server can be up while the realm is down, full or not sending your characters: on the night of 1 October the login server answered while testers' character lists never arrived (Blizzard, 2 Oct 2026). If you're stuck after logging in, the beta errors page reads your game's own log and tells you where it stopped.
Our check runs from one place on the Internet, so a problem between you and Blizzard (your Internet provider, Wi-Fi, a VPN) won't show here. That's what the reports from players are for.

Why can't I log in when the status says up?
The check only sees the login server. The realm can still be down or not sending your character list; the beta errors page reads your game's log to show where your login stopped.
