Eleanor Rusk's throwing weapons got much cheaper, players report

Players' ForeverDB addons recorded the vendor prices on eight of Eleanor Rusk's thrown weapons dropping sharply between 11 and 13 October, from as much as 2g 48s 11c down to 8s. Blizzard hasn't announced it.

Player reports, not confirmed by Blizzard. These prices are what players' ForeverDB addons saw at the vendor in the game. They are not from the client's data files, and not from a Blizzard post.

Eleanor Rusk, a General Goods vendor in the Undercity (Horde, at about 69.0, 48.9), sells thrown weapons on the WoW Forever beta. Between 11 and 13 October, two players' addons recorded the price she charges for eight of them falling a long way, across eleven uploads. The admins accepted it as a server-side hotfix. Nothing about it is in the beta client's files or in any Blizzard post we track.

What players' addons saw

The eight items are one throwing axe and one throwing dagger or knife at each of four level tiers. The buy prices players reported, old to new:

So each tier's axe and dagger, which already shared a price, still share one, and every tier got cheaper. The biggest cut is the pair of level 35 weapons, down from almost two and a half gold to eight silver.

How this sits against the client

In the beta client (build 1.60.1.70009) all eight are thrown weapons (weapon class, Thrown), usable by Warriors, Hunters and Rogues. The prices players saw before the change line up with the client's figures: the Gleaming Throwing Axe, for example, has a vendor sell value of 49s 62c in the files, and the old buy price of 2g 48s 11c is about five times that, the usual vendor markup. The client can't tell us the buy price after the change: the files still list the old 2g 48s 11c, and a server-side hotfix can change what the vendor charges without a new client build.

Speculation. The old prices look far too high for low-level thrown weapons (nearly 3 silver for a level 3 dagger, almost 2.5 gold for a level 35 axe), so the drop reads like a correction rather than a deliberate discount. Blizzard hasn't given a reason, and we can't confirm one.

Speculation. Players reported only the buy price. If the vendor still buys these weapons back at the client's sell value (49s 62c for the Gleaming Throwing Axe, 59c for the Balanced Throwing Dagger), the new buy price would sit below the sell-back price. We can't confirm the in-game sell price from the files, so treat any buy-low, sell-high angle as unverified.

What we don't know

  • Whether Blizzard meant to change these prices, and whether they stay this low (Speculation).
  • Whether the vendor's sell-back prices changed too. Players reported only the buy prices.
  • Only two players recorded it, over three days. More reports would make it firmer.

We'll update this page if a Blizzard post or a new build settles it. The item pages carry the client's own figures, for example the Gleaming Throwing Axe.
