Players report Ironforge's thrown weapons sold far cheaper in a hotfix

The Desolace map from the WoW Forever client

· ForeverDB

Players' ForeverDB addons saw eight thrown weapons from Brenwyn Wintersteel in Ironforge priced far below what the beta client lists, on 13 October. Blizzard hasn't posted about it, and the game files still show the old prices.

Player reports, not confirmed by Blizzard. These prices are what players' ForeverDB addons saw at the vendor in the game on 13 October. They are not datamined and not in the game files, and Blizzard hasn't posted about them. The beta client still lists the old prices.

Brenwyn Wintersteel (NPC 5120) is the thrown weapons dealer in Ironforge, standing in the Great Forge at about 61.9, 88.7. On 13 October, two players' addons (one of them signed in to an account) uploaded her prices twice, and every thrown weapon they recorded was much cheaper than the price held in the beta client's files.

What players' addons saw

For each item below, the first figure is the buy price in the Forever client (build data), and the second is what players' addons reported at the vendor in the game:

Each item was seen by 2 players in 2 uploads, all on 13 October. That is a small sample, but six of these items showed the same new prices at another vendor between 11 and 13 October (Eleanor Rusk), so it looks like one change across vendors rather than a quirk of these uploads.

What the game files say

In the beta client, all eight items are thrown weapons for levels 1 to 35 and still carry their higher buy prices. Their vendor sell prices in the files match the old buy prices (the buy price is five times the sell price): Small Throwing Knife and Crude Throwing Axe sell for 8c, Balanced Throwing Dagger and Weighted Throwing Axe for 59c, Keen Throwing Knife for 3s 66c, Heavy Throwing Dagger for 15s 18c, and Gleaming Throwing Axe and Wicked Throwing Dagger for 49s 62c. Vendor buy prices can be changed on Blizzard's servers without a new client build, so a hotfix would not show up in the game files, just as the 1 October skinning change, which the servers decide, never did.

What it might mean

Speculation. The new prices look like a flat, much cheaper rate, which would make thrown weapons cheap to top up while levelling, in the way ammunition is. Blizzard hasn't said whether this is a deliberate change, a test, or a bug, so the reason is a guess.

We'll update this page if a Blizzard post or a new build confirms it. More reader-reported changes seen in the game are tracked on our corrections and changes log.
