Barny64 walks to Mount Hyjal and griefs the beta with a goblin gun Blizzard pulled

· ForeverDB
Barny64's beta diary follows a level 20 undead rogue on a long walk to Mount Hyjal and a griefing spree with a goblin gun that was removed after about 48 hours. Most of it is world PvP and exploration we can't read from the client, but one claim checks out: the Assassination talent Murder now only boosts damage against Humanoid and Giant targets. We checked every claim against the Forever beta client.
This is a community video by Barny64, not a Blizzard video, so everything in it is the creator's claim or find. We checked each one against the WoW Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70755) and our own site data; the ability and talent numbers come from the client.
Barny64's "Beta Gaiden" is a 36-minute beta diary. A level 20 undead rogue walks to Mount Hyjal with no mount, griefs world PvP with a goblin gun, and camps a few players along the way. It is mostly stunts and jokes, but it names real places, items and a rogue talent, so here is each game claim set against the client.

The short version
- Barny64 walks to Mount Hyjal as a low-level rogue, up through Felwood, Timbermaw Hold, Winterspring and Darkwhisper Gorge. The client has the Hyjal subzones Ruins and Summit of Eternity, but the route in and any level gate are player tests.
- A goblin engineer gun, the Booty Bay Bruiser's Buckshot, had a knockback active that Barny64 says worked on anyone, including your own faction and flight masters, before it was removed after about 48 hours. The gun isn't in our item data, so we can't read its active.
- Guards near public transport, Barny64 says, now knock you back from range and through walls. That is a server behaviour we can't read from the client.
- The one hard client find: the Assassination talent Murder, the "legacy talent" Barny64 keeps joking about deleting, now only boosts damage against Humanoid and Giant targets. Classic Era's version also covered Beast and Dragonkin.
- The claim-by-claim table below marks every stunt we can't check from the client yet, and why.
Claim by claim
| Claim | Barny64 says | The client says | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mount Hyjal reachable early on foot | Travels there as a level 18 rogue with no mount, up through Felwood, Timbermaw Hold, Winterspring and Darkwhisper Gorge, and reaches the summit | The client has the Hyjal subzones Ruins and Summit of Eternity, and Felwood and Thousand Needles are in the map data; the route in and any level gate are server-side | Can't check the route |
| Black Lotus on Hyjal | Picks one up on the mountain, calling it a "World first black lotus get" | Black Lotus (item 13468) is in our item data; where it spawns is a behaviour we can't read | Client has the item |
| Zul'Farrak needs level 35 | Says you can't enter until level 35 | The client doesn't carry dungeon entry levels; that is a server rule a player has to test | Can't check |
| RP PvP ruleset missing at launch | Jokes that the realmless server list forgot RP PvP | The client has the "(RP PvP)" label text, so it knows the ruleset; whether a realm offers it is a server choice | Can't check |
| Standard-definition models look stretched | Says the SD models are classic skins "awkwardly stretched across a modern skeleton" | The client has a "Standard Definition" graphics option; model geometry isn't in our data | Can't check |
| Booty Bay Bruiser's Buckshot gun | Bought from a goblin engineer in Booty Bay at friendly; knockback active hit anyone, even flight masters, then removed after about 48 hours | Booty Bay is a faction in our reputation data; the gun isn't in our item data and its active and removal are server-side | Can't check |
| Transport-hub guards knock back through walls | Says guards now have a 100-yard ranged auto-attack that knocks back per hit and goes through walls | Guard behaviour and those numbers aren't in the client; only a player can test them | Can't check |
| Sap should flag you for PvP | Argues it should flag you so there is counterplay | Sap works only on Humanoids not in combat and "Does not break Stealth"; PvP flagging is a server behaviour | Can't check the flag |
| The "legacy talent" (Murder) | Keeps joking about deleting it while killing players | Murder (Assassination tier 2, level 15) boosts damage against Humanoid and Giant targets by 2% then 4%; Classic Era also covered Beast and Dragonkin | Client confirms, narrower |
| Escort quest fails if you stray too far | Says straying from the Lakota Windsong escort in Thousand Needles auto-fails it even if the NPC lives | The client has the "- Failed" quest tag, but the distance-fail rule is a server behaviour | Can't check |
| Parachute Cloak | Equips it to jump off the mountain safely | Parachute Cloak (item 10518) is in our item data | Client has the item |
| Explosive Sheep | Says he cheated a naked duel with an explosive sheep | Explosive Sheep (item 4384) is in our item data | Client has the item |
| New lighting and water physics | Says the game looks gorgeous now, with water physics and god rays | Visuals aren't in our data | Can't check |
Every "Can't check" is a server behaviour or an item the client doesn't carry; a player on the beta has to test it.
The rogue bits
The beekeeper is an undead rogue, so most of the video is stealth. In the client, Stealth slows you by 50% at rank 1, easing to 30% at its rank 4 (level 60). Nothing surprising there, but it is the backbone of every stunt in the video.
Barny64 argues that Sap should flag you for PvP so there is counterplay. The client tooltip says it works only on Humanoids that aren't in combat, lasts up to 25 sec at rank 1 (up to 45 sec at rank 3, level 48) and "Does not break Stealth". Whether it flags you for PvP is a server behaviour we can't read from the client, so that one stays a player report.
The joke that keeps coming back is deleting a "legacy talent" while killing low-level players. The client has one that fits: Murder, Murder, in the Assassination tree at tier 2, which you can pick from level 15. It increases your damage against Humanoid and Giant targets by 2% at rank 1 and 4% at rank 2. In Classic Era the same talent also covered Beast and Dragonkin, so Forever's version is narrower. For a rogue who spends the video ganking players, Humanoid damage is exactly the part that still works.
See the full list on the Rogue changes page, or build around Murder in the Rogue talent calculator and the Assassination Rogue simulator.
What we have, and what we don't
We can confirm the places and items the video names, but not the stunts, because the stunts are server behaviour.
- We have: map pages for Felwood and Thousand Needles, the Hyjal subzone names Ruins and Summit of Eternity, the items Black Lotus, Parachute Cloak and Explosive Sheep, Booty Bay reputation, and the Rogue spells.
- We don't have: the Booty Bay Bruiser's Buckshot gun, the new Ironforge dungeon, the Mallet of Zul'Farrak, and NPC placements such as the Hyjal crow flight master and the glaive machine.
- Why players can't test some of it yet: the beta cap is level 60; the gun's knockback active was removed; and server rules such as PvP flagging, guard knockback, the escort-quest fail distance and dungeon entry levels don't live in the client, so only a beta player can confirm them.
