Rogue macros

Rogue macros for WoW Forever: stealth openers on modifiers, Pick Pocket before you open, Sap, Kick and Blind on your focus or mouseover, Vanish that stops your attack first, Distract at your cursor, finishers and poisons on one key each, and talent cooldowns. In Forever Cheap Shot moves to level 26, Coup de Grace is a passive (Eviscerate against your Deadly Poison), and Distract also lowers enemies' stealth detection.

16 Rogue macros for WoW Forever, each with the code to copy, what it does, how to use it and the level it needs. Every spell name, rank and command is checked against the Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70170); none has been tested in the beta yet. Macros above the level 30 cap are marked Speculation.

Stealth and openers

The [stealth] condition is true while you're in Stealth, so one key can open from Stealth and attack normally out of it. Stealth itself has a 10 sec cooldown in the client, and in Forever it slows you by 50%.

Stealth opener, Sinister Strike out of Stealth

#showtooltip
/cast [stealth, mod:shift] Cheap Shot; [stealth, mod:ctrl] Garrote; [stealth] Ambush; Sinister Strike
/startattack [nostealth]

What it does. In Stealth it opens with Ambush, or Garrote with Ctrl, or Cheap Shot with Shift. Out of Stealth the same key is Sinister Strike and starts your auto-attack.

How to use it. Make it your main attack key. Sneak behind your target and press it (with Shift or Ctrl for the other openers), then keep pressing it without a modifier for Sinister Strike.

Why it's useful. Your opener and your builder share one key, and the /startattack line only runs outside Stealth, so it never breaks Stealth before your opener lands.

Needs: Cheap Shot (level 26), Garrote (level 14), Ambush (level 18), Sinister Strike (level 1).

Usable from level 18. 137/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Ambush (level 18) needs a dagger in the main hand and you must be behind the target. Without a dagger, replace Ambush with Garrote and drop the Ctrl part.
  • Garrote (level 14): 144 damage over 18 sec at rank 1, from Stealth and behind the target.
  • Cheap Shot needs level 26 in the Forever client: until then Shift does nothing. It stuns for 4 sec and gives 2 combo points.

Pick Pocket, then open

#showtooltip
/cast [stealth] Pick Pocket
/cast [stealth] Ambush; Sinister Strike

What it does. In Stealth it picks your target's pocket and then Ambushes it. Out of Stealth it's Sinister Strike.

How to use it. Turn on Auto Loot in the options. Sneak behind a humanoid and press it once: you get the loot and the fight starts with Ambush.

Why it's useful. Pick Pocket is free money on every humanoid you kill while levelling, and it's easy to forget. On the opener key you never skip it.

Needs: Pick Pocket (level 4), Ambush (level 18), Sinister Strike (level 1).

Usable from level 18. 80/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Pick Pocket has no global cooldown in the client's data (no start recovery time), which is what lets Ambush follow on the same press.
  • Without Auto Loot a loot window opens and you'll need to close it.
  • On a creature with nothing to steal, the Pick Pocket line fails and Ambush still goes. Swap Ambush for Garrote if you don't use a dagger.

Premeditation, then open

#showtooltip
/cast [stealth] Premeditation
/cast [stealth] Ambush; Sinister Strike

What it does. In Stealth it uses Premeditation for 2 free combo points and Ambushes on the same press. Out of Stealth it's Sinister Strike and leaves Premeditation alone.

How to use it. Open with it from behind your target, then go straight into a finisher.

Why it's useful. Premeditation has no global cooldown in the client's data, so it costs you nothing to fire it with the opener, and a finisher comes one attack sooner.

Needs: Premeditation (level 25, Subtlety talent), Ambush (level 18), Sinister Strike (level 1).

Usable from level 25. 82/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Premeditation is a Subtlety talent (level 25 tier). In the Forever tooltip the combo points last 20 sec (10 sec in Classic) and it has a 2 min cooldown.
  • Swap Ambush for Garrote or Cheap Shot if that's your opener.

Stealth that never switches itself off

#showtooltip Stealth
/cast !Stealth

What it does. Enters Stealth. Pressing it again while stealthed does nothing, instead of taking you out of Stealth.

How to use it. Put it where your Stealth button was. Press it as often as you like after a fight.

Why it's useful. The plain Stealth button toggles, so a nervous double press drops you out of Stealth next to the enemy you were sneaking past.

Needs: Stealth (level 1).

Usable from level 1. 35/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • The ! in front of a spell stops it toggling off.
  • Stealth can't be used in combat, and in the Forever client it has a 10 sec cooldown.

Sap, Kick, Blind and Gouge

Crowd control and interrupts that work best on a focus or mouseover, so you keep hitting your kill target.

Sap your mouseover or focus, Stealth first

#showtooltip Sap
/cast [nostealth] !Stealth; [@mouseover,harm,nodead][@focus,harm,nodead][] Sap

What it does. Out of Stealth it puts you in Stealth. In Stealth it Saps the enemy under your mouse, or your focus, or your target.

How to use it. Before a dungeon pull, point at the humanoid you want out of the fight and press it (twice if you're not stealthed yet). Or make it your focus first.

Why it's useful. Sap takes an enemy out of the pull for up to 25 sec, and mouseover means you don't have to target it and then find your kill target again.

Needs: Stealth (level 1), Sap (level 10).

Usable from level 10. 95/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • The Forever tooltip no longer says "Must be stealthed", but the client's spell data still lists Stealth as required, and it now says Sap "Does not break Stealth".
  • Only works on Humanoids that are not in combat, and only one target can be sapped at a time. Any damage breaks it.
  • It costs 65 Energy at rank 1. The Subtlety talent Dirty Tricks (new in Forever) lowers that by 25%.

Kick your focus, mouseover or target

#showtooltip Kick
/cast [@focus,harm,nodead][@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Kick

What it does. Kicks your focus if it's a living enemy; otherwise the enemy under your mouse; otherwise your target.

How to use it. Make the enemy healer or caster your focus. When its cast bar starts, press this without changing target.

Why it's useful. Interrupts are only good the moment the cast starts. Swapping targets to Kick and back is too slow.

Needs: Kick (level 12).

Usable from level 12. 75/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • The Forever tooltip: 15 damage at rank 1 and a 5 sec lockout of that school of magic; 25 Energy, 10 sec cooldown, melee range.
  • Kick triggers a 1 sec global cooldown in the client's data.

Blind your target, or your focus with Shift

#showtooltip Blind
/stopattack [nomod]
/cast [mod:shift,@focus,harm,nodead][nomod] Blind

What it does. Stops your auto-attack and Blinds your target. With Shift it Blinds your focus instead and leaves your attack alone.

How to use it. Press it on its own to take your target out of a fight (then bandage or restealth). Hold Shift to Blind a second enemy, such as a healer, while you keep hitting your target.

Why it's useful. Any damage ends Blind, and your own next swing would do it. /stopattack stops that happening when you Blind the enemy you were hitting.

Needs: Blind (level 34).

Speculation: Needs level 34 (Blind), above the beta's level 30 cap. 88/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • The Forever tooltip: the target wanders disoriented for up to 10 sec and any damage removes it. 30 Energy, 10 yard range, 5 min cooldown, level 34.
  • It uses a Blinding Powder in the client's data.
  • The Subtlety talent Dirty Tricks lowers its Energy cost.

Gouge, then Backstab

#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=target/5 Gouge, Backstab

What it does. The first press Gouges your target. The next press Backstabs it once you're behind it.

How to use it. Gouge from the front, walk round behind the enemy, and press again. Use a dagger in your main hand: Backstab needs one.

Why it's useful. Gouge incapacitates for 4 sec, time to get behind and use your hardest-hitting builder while levelling with daggers.

Needs: Gouge (level 6), Backstab (level 4).

Usable from level 6. 57/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • A cast sequence only moves on when a step works. If you're not behind the enemy, Backstab fails and the sequence waits on Backstab.
  • It goes back to Gouge after 5 sec without a press (the timer restarts with each press), when you change target, and after the Backstab. Gouge's 10 sec cooldown then holds it on Gouge: use your normal attack key meanwhile.
  • The Forever tooltip: Gouge causes 10 damage, stops your attack, needs the target facing you, and any damage breaks it.

Distract at your cursor

#showtooltip Distract
/cast [@cursor] Distract

What it does. Throws Distract where your mouse points, with no targeting circle.

How to use it. Point just beyond a guard or patrol, so it turns away from your path, and press it. Then sneak past.

Why it's useful. Placing the circle takes a moment, and the patrol moves. With your mouse already on the spot it's one press.

Needs: Distract (level 22).

Usable from level 22. 46/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • The Forever tooltip adds something new: distracted enemies' stealth detection drops as if they were 1 level lower, for 10 seconds.
  • It reaches 30 yards, costs 30 Energy, has a 30 sec cooldown and needs level 22. It doesn't break Stealth.
  • The Subtlety talent Improved Distract widens it by 3 yards and lowers detection by another level.

Staying alive

Rogues survive by getting out of trouble quickly. Vanish, Evasion and Sprint have no global cooldown in the client's data, so they go off the moment you press them, even straight after an attack.

Vanish, stopping your attack first

#showtooltip Vanish
/stopattack
/cast Vanish

What it does. Turns off your auto-attack and Vanishes.

How to use it. Press it when a fight is lost, or to drop threat in a dungeon. Then move away or open again from Stealth.

Why it's useful. If your auto-attack is still on, your next swing can pull you straight back out of Stealth. Stopping it first keeps the Vanish.

Needs: Vanish (level 22).

Usable from level 22. 44/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • The Forever tooltip: an improved stealth for 10 sec that also breaks movement impairing effects; 5 min cooldown; level 22.
  • It uses a Flash Powder in the client's data.

Evasion, Shift for Sprint, Ctrl for Vanish

#showtooltip
/stopattack [mod:ctrl]
/cast [mod:shift] Sprint; [mod:ctrl] Vanish; Evasion

What it does. Casts Evasion; with Shift, Sprint; with Ctrl, stops your attack and Vanishes.

How to use it. Evasion when something hits you hard in melee, Sprint to run, Vanish to get out.

Why it's useful. Your three ways out share one key, so an emergency is one reach instead of three.

Needs: Sprint (level 10), Vanish (level 22), Evasion (level 8).

Usable from level 10. 88/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Forever's Evasion: 50% more dodge for 15 sec, 5 min cooldown.
  • Sprint: 50% faster for 15 sec at rank 1, doesn't break Stealth, 5 min cooldown.
  • Vanish needs level 22; below that Ctrl does nothing.

Feint on your mouseover or target

#showtooltip Feint
/cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Feint

What it does. Uses Feint on the enemy under your mouse, or on your target.

How to use it. In a group, point at the enemy turning towards you and press it. It lowers your threat on that enemy.

Why it's useful. Threat is per enemy. When an add turns on you while you're hitting something else, you can Feint the add without losing your target.

Needs: Feint (level 16).

Usable from level 16. 57/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • The Forever tooltip only says it lowers your threat "by a small amount". It has a 10 sec cooldown and needs level 16.

Finishers, poisons and cooldowns

A macro can't see your combo points or Energy, so the finisher key is one key with modifiers: you choose which finisher and when.

Every finisher on one key

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift] Slice and Dice; [mod:ctrl] Rupture; [mod:alt] Expose Armor; Eviscerate

What it does. Eviscerate on its own, Slice and Dice with Shift, Rupture with Ctrl and Expose Armor with Alt.

How to use it. Build combo points with your attack key, then press this with the modifier for the finisher you want.

Why it's useful. Four finishers use the same combo points and none of them is needed often enough for its own key. Keeping them together saves three bar slots.

Needs: Slice and Dice (level 10), Rupture (level 20), Expose Armor (level 14), Eviscerate (level 1).

Usable from level 10. 101/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Forever's Slice and Dice: 20% faster melee attacks, 9 sec at 1 point up to 21 sec at 5 points.
  • Rupture needs level 20 and Expose Armor level 14; without them those modifiers do nothing.

Poison your main hand, Shift for your off hand

#showtooltip
/use [nomod] Instant Poison; [mod:shift] Crippling Poison
/use [nomod] 16; [mod:shift] 17

What it does. Applies Instant Poison to the weapon in your main hand (slot 16). With Shift it applies Crippling Poison to your off hand (slot 17).

How to use it. Press it once without Shift and once with Shift whenever your poisons run out. When you buy better ranks, change the names to match, for example Instant Poison II, or swap in Deadly Poison.

Why it's useful. Applying a poison normally takes a click on the poison and another on the weapon. This does both on one press.

Needs: Instant Poison, Crippling Poison.

Usable from level 20. 102/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Poisons are Rogue-only items in the client: Instant Poison and Crippling Poison need level 20, Deadly Poison 30.
  • In the client's item data each coat lasts 30 minutes. Instant Poison has a 20% chance per strike and 60 charges.
  • Forever's new Coup de Grace makes Eviscerate stronger against targets with your Deadly Poison, and the new Mutilate hits Poisoned targets 20% harder.

Cold Blood and Eviscerate

#showtooltip Cold Blood
/cast Cold Blood
/cast Eviscerate

What it does. Activates Cold Blood and follows it with Eviscerate on the same press, so the Eviscerate is a guaranteed critical strike.

How to use it. Press it at 5 combo points when you want a big finishing hit: to end a player, or to finish a runner.

Why it's useful. Cold Blood has no global cooldown in the client's data. Tying it to Eviscerate means it's never wasted on the wrong attack.

Needs: Cold Blood (level 25, Assassination talent), Eviscerate (level 1).

Usable from level 25. 57/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Cold Blood is an Assassination talent (level 25 tier). The Forever tooltip: your next Sinister Strike, Backstab, Ambush, Eviscerate or Mutilate gets 100% more critical strike chance; 3 min cooldown.
  • Swap Eviscerate for Ambush to use it on your opener instead.

Blade Flurry with both trinkets, Shift for Adrenaline Rush

#showtooltip
/use 13
/use 14
/cast [mod:shift] Adrenaline Rush; Blade Flurry

What it does. Uses both trinkets and Blade Flurry. With Shift, uses both trinkets and Adrenaline Rush instead.

How to use it. Press it at the start of a hard fight, or when two enemies stand together. Trinkets without a Use effect are skipped.

Why it's useful. Damage cooldowns are best lined up, and trinkets have no global cooldown, so all of them go off together.

Needs: Adrenaline Rush (level 40, Combat talent), Blade Flurry (level 30, Combat talent).

Usable from level 30. Works at the cap without Adrenaline Rush (level 40): that part is above the beta's level 30 cap. 76/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Blade Flurry is a Combat talent (level 30 tier). The Forever tooltip: 20% faster melee attacks and your melee attacks hit an extra nearby enemy for 15 sec; 25 Energy, 2 min cooldown.
  • Adrenaline Rush is the level 40 Combat talent: 100% faster Energy regeneration for 15 sec, 5 min cooldown.
