Hunter macros

Hunter macros for WoW Forever: pet commands and pet abilities on one key, Auto Shot that never toggles off, shots on your mouseover, melee attacks, aspects, traps and Scare Beast on your focus. Forever changed a lot here: Aimed Shot is a trainer spell every Hunter learns at 20 and shares a 6 sec cooldown with Multi-Shot, each pet family has a new ability such as Web, Pinch or Dismember, and the trap tooltips allow one Fire trap and one Frost trap at the same time.

19 Hunter macros for WoW Forever, each with the code to copy, what it does, how to use it and the level it needs. Every spell name, rank and command is checked against the Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70170); none has been tested in the beta yet. Macros above the level 30 cap are marked Speculation.

Your pet

Pet commands and your pet's own spells don't use your global cooldown, so they can share a key with a shot. You get Call Pet, Revive Pet, Feed Pet and Beast Training from the level 10 Hunter quest. Most of the new family abilities (Web, Pinch, Tendon Rip, Dismember, Savage Rend, Swipe) start at pet level 12 in the client's pet data.

Send your pet in and mark the target

#showtooltip Hunter's Mark
/petattack
/cast Hunter's Mark

What it does. Sends your pet at your target and puts Hunter's Mark on it in the same press.

How to use it. Press it to open a fight. The pet runs in while you mark, then start shooting. Don't press it again on the same target while the mark is still up.

Why it's useful. A pet that reaches the enemy before your first shot holds its attention for longer, and the mark adds ranged attack power for everyone shooting that target. Doing both on one key means you never forget either.

Needs: Hunter's Mark (level 6).

Usable from level 6. 57/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Hunter's Mark uses your global cooldown in the client, so the press costs you 1.5 sec. /petattack doesn't.
  • In the Forever client rank 1 (level 6) adds 26 ranged attack power for 2 min. The marked enemy can't hide from you with stealth or invisibility, and it shows on your minimap.

Pet attack, follow or stay on one key

/petfollow [mod:shift]
/petstay [mod:ctrl]
/petattack [nomod,@mouseover,harm,nodead][nomod]

What it does. Sends your pet at the enemy under your mouse, or at your target. With Shift it comes back to you; with Ctrl it stays where it is.

How to use it. Bind it to a key next to your movement keys. Press Shift and the key when your pet chases a runner towards another pack, and Ctrl and the key to park it before you pull.

Why it's useful. The pet bar is small and far from your hands. Three commands you use all the time share one key, and the mouseover part lets you send the pet at a second enemy without changing target.

Usable from level 1. 91/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Pet commands don't use the global cooldown, so you can press it between shots.
  • You get your first pet at level 10, from the Hunter quest that teaches Call Pet.

Pet defensive, passive or aggressive

/petpassive [mod:shift]
/petaggressive [mod:ctrl]
/petdefensive [nomod]

What it does. Sets your pet to defensive. With Shift it goes passive, with Ctrl aggressive.

How to use it. Defensive for normal play: the pet fights what attacks you or it. Passive in dungeons near other packs and around crowd-controlled enemies. Aggressive only when you're grinding alone and want it to pick fights.

Why it's useful. An aggressive pet pulls extra packs and breaks crowd control by attacking whatever is near. Switching stance from a key is quicker than finding the small buttons on the pet bar.

Usable from level 1. 71/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • A passive pet still obeys /petattack. It just never starts a fight on its own.
  • The Forever client has /petaggressive, /petdefensive, /petpassive and /petassist in its list of slash commands.

Turn Growl on or off

#showtooltip Growl
/petautocasttoggle Growl

What it does. Switches your pet's Growl autocast on or off. The Growl button on your pet bar glows while autocast is on.

How to use it. Turn it off when you join a group with a tank, and on again when you go back to solo play. Check the pet bar after pressing it.

Why it's useful. Growl pulls enemies off the tank, which tanks and healers hate. Toggling it from the pet bar means finding a small button and right-clicking it.

Needs: Growl (level 1).

Usable from level 1. 43/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • In the client Growl taunts the target so it attacks your pet; rank 1 costs 15 Focus and has a 5 sec cooldown.
  • The same line works for any pet spell with autocast: change Growl to Cower, for example.

Call, heal or revive your pet

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift] Revive Pet; [nopet] Call Pet; Mend Pet

What it does. Calls your pet when it isn't out, and heals it with Mend Pet when it is. With Shift it casts Revive Pet.

How to use it. Press it after a fight to top your pet up, or while it tanks. When your pet has died, hold Shift and press it.

Why it's useful. Three pet spells you need between fights share one bar slot, and the icon shows which one the key will cast.

Needs: Revive Pet (level 10), Call Pet (level 10), Mend Pet (level 12).

Usable from level 10. 69/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • When your pet is dead only the Shift press does anything useful; the plain press fails.
  • Mend Pet is a channel in the client: rank 1 (level 12) heals 20 health a second for 5 sec, and your pet must be within 20 yards.
  • Revive Pet has a 10 sec cast and brings the pet back with 15% of its health.

Pet attack with its family ability

#showtooltip {PETSKILL}
/petattack
/cast {PETSKILL}

What it does. Sends your pet at your target and has it use its family ability straight away.

How to use it. Type your pet's family ability in the box: Web (Spider), Pinch (Crab), Tendon Rip (Hyena), Dismember (Crocolisk), Savage Rend (Raptor), Swipe (Bear), Mine! (Bird of Prey), Dust Cloud (Tallstrider) or Furious Howl (Wolf). Press it on a runner, a healer, or at the start of the fight.

Why it's useful. Most of these abilities are new in Forever, and they matter most at a certain moment: a Web on the enemy running away, Dismember on a target someone is healing. Casting it yourself puts it where you want it.

Needs: Web (level 1).

Usable from level 1. 44/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • In the Forever client, rank 1 Web roots the enemy and deals 12 Nature damage over 4 sec, Pinch and Tendon Rip slow it by 50% for 9 sec, Dismember halves healing on it for 10 sec, and Mine! disarms it for 4 sec.
  • Pet spells don't use your global cooldown.

Intimidation with your pet's attack

#showtooltip Intimidation
/petattack
/cast Intimidation

What it does. Sends your pet at your target and casts Intimidation, so its next successful attack stuns the enemy.

How to use it. Press it on an enemy caster, on a runner, or on an enemy that has turned on your healer.

Why it's useful. Intimidation only works through the pet's attack, so the pet has to be on the right target first. This does both.

Needs: Intimidation (level 30, Beast Mastery talent).

Usable from level 30. 55/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Intimidation is a Beast Mastery talent in the level 30 tier.
  • In the Forever client the pet's next successful attack stuns for 3 sec, has 100% more critical strike chance and generates high threat. It has a 1 min cooldown and uses your global cooldown.

Shots and cooldowns

In the client Auto Shot doesn't use the global cooldown, so it can go on the same key as your pet commands. Aimed Shot and Multi-Shot share one 6 sec cooldown, and Multi-Shot has a 0.5 sec cast in Forever.

Start Auto Shot and send the pet

#showtooltip Auto Shot
/petattack
/cast !Auto Shot

What it does. Sends your pet at your target and starts Auto Shot. Pressing it again doesn't stop your shots (the ! stops it toggling off).

How to use it. Use it as your first press on every enemy, and again after anything that stopped your shooting.

Why it's useful. The plain Auto Shot button turns shooting off when you press it twice, which is easy to do in a hurry. This one only ever turns it on.

Needs: Auto Shot (level 1).

Usable from level 1. 50/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Auto Shot works from 8 to 35 yards in the client. Inside 8 yards you need melee attacks.

Concussive Shot on your mouseover

#showtooltip Concussive Shot
/cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Concussive Shot

What it does. Slows the enemy under your mouse with Concussive Shot, or your target if you're not pointing at one.

How to use it. Point at an enemy running towards you or a friend and press it. Your target doesn't change, so your pet and Auto Shot stay where they are.

Why it's useful. Kiting is about keeping enemies away from you, and a runner can be slowed without losing your kill target.

Needs: Concussive Shot (level 8).

Usable from level 8. 77/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • In the client it dazes the enemy, slowing it by 50% for 4 sec, with a 12 sec cooldown. You learn it at level 8.

Pull an enemy off the healer

#showtooltip Distracting Shot
/petattack [@mouseover,harm,nodead][]
/cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Distracting Shot

What it does. Sends your pet at the enemy under your mouse and hits it with Distracting Shot, which only causes threat. Without a mouseover it uses your target.

How to use it. When a loose enemy runs at your healer, point at it and press. Then keep it busy until the tank takes it back.

Why it's useful. A healer being hit stops healing. Pulling the enemy onto you and your pet buys the tank time, without you losing your kill target.

Needs: Distracting Shot (level 12).

Usable from level 12. 117/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Distracting Shot has an 8 sec cooldown in the client. Rank 1 comes at level 12 and rank 2 at 20.
  • It only adds threat: afterwards the enemy is on you, so be ready with Aspect of the Monkey or Deterrence.
  • If your pet's Growl is on autocast, it will taunt the enemy too.

Aimed Shot, or Multi-Shot with Shift

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift] Multi-Shot; Aimed Shot

What it does. Casts Aimed Shot, or Multi-Shot while you hold Shift.

How to use it. Use Aimed Shot on a single target and Shift for Multi-Shot when three enemies are close together. Only one of the two can be used every 6 sec.

Why it's useful. The two shots share a cooldown in Forever, so they never both need a free bar slot at the same moment.

Needs: Multi-Shot (level 18), Aimed Shot (level 20).

Usable from level 20. 53/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • In the Forever client every Hunter learns Aimed Shot from the trainer at level 20; in Classic it was a Marksmanship talent. Rank 1 has a 2 sec cast and adds 20 damage.
  • Multi-Shot (level 18) hits 3 targets and has a 0.5 sec cast in the client. Its tooltip says it shares its cooldown with Aimed Shot.

Rapid Fire with your trinkets and Bestial Wrath

#showtooltip Rapid Fire
/cast Rapid Fire
/cast Bestial Wrath
/use 13
/use 14

What it does. Casts Rapid Fire, Bestial Wrath if you have the talent, and the Use effects of both trinkets, all in one press.

How to use it. Press it at the start of a fight you want to end quickly, such as a boss or an enemy player. A trinket without a Use effect is skipped.

Why it's useful. Short cooldowns do the most when they overlap. Rapid Fire and Bestial Wrath don't use the global cooldown in the client, and trinkets don't either, so everything goes off together.

Needs: Rapid Fire (level 26), Bestial Wrath (level 40, Beast Mastery talent).

Usable from level 26. Works at the cap without Bestial Wrath (level 40): that part is above the beta's level 30 cap. 76/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • In Forever Rapid Fire speeds up your ranged and melee attacks by 40% for 15 sec (Classic's only sped up ranged attacks). It has a 5 min cooldown and comes at level 26.
  • Bestial Wrath is a Beast Mastery talent in the level 40 tier: 50% more pet damage for 18 sec, 2 min cooldown. Without it the line does nothing.

Melee and staying alive

Enemies that reach you stop your Auto Shot. These macros make the melee part quick, and Deterrence is a Survival talent you can take by level 20.

Melee: Raptor Strike and Mongoose Bite

#showtooltip Raptor Strike
/startattack
/cast Mongoose Bite
/cast Raptor Strike

What it does. Starts your melee attack, uses Mongoose Bite if you've just dodged, and makes your next swing a Raptor Strike.

How to use it. Press it whenever an enemy is in melee range. Mongoose Bite only goes off after a dodge; the rest of the time the line does nothing.

Why it's useful. Both attacks are only useful in melee, and in the client Raptor Strike doesn't use the global cooldown, so one key covers both without wasting time.

Needs: Mongoose Bite (level 16), Raptor Strike (level 1).

Usable from level 1. 79/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • In the client Raptor Strike is a next-swing attack (the same spell flag as a Warrior's Heroic Strike) with a 6 sec cooldown. Rank 1 deals weapon damage plus 5.
  • Mongoose Bite (level 16) uses the global cooldown and only works after you dodge. When you haven't dodged, it shows an error; that's harmless.

Deterrence and Aspect of the Monkey

#showtooltip Deterrence
/cast Deterrence
/cast !Aspect of the Monkey

What it does. Casts Deterrence, which adds 25% dodge and parry for 10 sec, and switches you to Aspect of the Monkey for 8% more dodge.

How to use it. Press it when several enemies are hitting you in melee. The ! stops the press turning Aspect of the Monkey off if it's already on. Switch back to Aspect of the Hawk once you're safe.

Why it's useful. Deterrence doesn't use the global cooldown in the client and Aspect of the Monkey does, so both go off in one press. All that dodging also sets up Mongoose Bite.

Needs: Deterrence (level 20, Survival talent), Aspect of the Monkey (level 4).

Usable from level 20. 68/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Deterrence is a Survival talent in the level 20 tier, with a 5 min cooldown.
  • Only one Aspect can be active at a time, so this ends Aspect of the Hawk.

Aspects, traps and crowd control

Forever's trap tooltips say "Only one Fire trap can be active at a time" and "Only one Frost trap", where Classic's said only one trap of any kind. In the client Freezing Trap and Frost Trap share one 30 sec cooldown, and Immolation Trap and Explosive Trap share another.

Hawk, Monkey or Cheetah on one key

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift] !Aspect of the Cheetah; [mod:ctrl] !Aspect of the Monkey; !Aspect of the Hawk

What it does. Casts Aspect of the Hawk, Aspect of the Cheetah with Shift, or Aspect of the Monkey with Ctrl. Pressing it again never turns the current aspect off.

How to use it. Hawk for shooting, Cheetah for running between fights, Monkey when enemies are hitting you in melee.

Why it's useful. Three aspects you swap all the time share one key, and the ! means a second press can't leave you with no aspect at all.

Needs: Aspect of the Cheetah (level 20), Aspect of the Monkey (level 4), Aspect of the Hawk (level 10).

Usable from level 10. 108/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • In the client Aspect of the Cheetah adds 30% movement speed, but you're dazed for 4 sec whenever you take damage. Swap it off before a fight. It comes at level 20.
  • Aspects use the global cooldown.

Scare Beast on your focus or mouseover

#showtooltip Scare Beast
/cast [@focus,harm,nodead][@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Scare Beast

What it does. Casts Scare Beast on your focus if it's a living enemy, otherwise on the enemy under your mouse, otherwise on your target.

How to use it. Make the extra beast in a pull your focus, and press this to send it running while you kill the other one.

Why it's useful. Taking a second beast out of the fight keeps a pull you can handle from becoming one you can't, without swapping targets.

Needs: Scare Beast (level 14).

Usable from level 14. 89/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • In the client it has a 1.5 sec cast, a 30 sec cooldown and only 10 yards of range, so stand close. Rank 1 lasts up to 10 sec.
  • Only one beast can be scared at a time, and damage may break it.

Every trap on one key

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift] Immolation Trap; [mod:ctrl] Frost Trap; Freezing Trap

What it does. Places a Freezing Trap, or an Immolation Trap with Shift, or a Frost Trap with Ctrl.

How to use it. Before a pull, drop a Freezing Trap between you and the pack and let the enemy you want frozen walk into it. Use Shift for damage on your pulls.

Why it's useful. Traps you place a few times per fight share one key. Since Fire and Frost traps have separate cooldowns in Forever, you can have a Freezing Trap and an Immolation Trap out together.

Needs: Immolation Trap (level 16), Frost Trap (level 28), Freezing Trap (level 20).

Usable from level 20. 84/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Freezing Trap (level 20) freezes the first enemy that comes close for up to 10 sec at rank 1. Any damage breaks the ice.
  • Forever's trap tooltips no longer say that traps can only be placed out of combat. The client can't tell us whether the beta enforces it anyway.
  • Frost Trap needs level 28; without it Ctrl does nothing.

Feign Death cleanly

#showtooltip Feign Death
/stopattack
/petfollow
/cast Feign Death

What it does. Stops your attacks, calls your pet back and casts Feign Death.

How to use it. Press it when a pull goes wrong, or to drop threat in a group. Stay down until the enemies walk off.

Why it's useful. Feign Death works best when nothing of yours is still fighting. Stopping your attacks and calling the pet in the same press takes care of both.

Needs: Feign Death (level 30).

Usable from level 30. 65/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • Feign Death needs level 30. It doesn't use the global cooldown and has a 30 sec cooldown in the client.
  • New in the Forever tooltip: "Lasts 6 min. If not cancelled, after 6 min you will actually die."
  • Because it doesn't use the global cooldown, you can add /cast Freezing Trap as a last line to drop a trap in the same press.

Flare at your cursor

#showtooltip Flare
/cast [@cursor] Flare

What it does. Fires Flare at the spot under your mouse, with no targeting circle to place.

How to use it. Point at the place a Rogue or Druid just vanished and press it.

Why it's useful. Stealthed players move fast, so placing a circle first often loses them. Here the Flare lands where you're already looking.

Needs: Flare (level 32).

Speculation: Needs level 32 (Flare), above the beta's level 30 cap. 40/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.

  • In the client Flare shows all hidden and invisible enemies within 10 yards of the spot for 30 sec, with a 15 sec cooldown. It comes at level 32.
