Leveling a Druid to 30
How to level a Druid from 1 to the level 30 beta cap in WoW Forever: which race, every spell and form and when you get it, shapeshifting and healing yourself, the published Feral, Balance and Restoration leveling builds at 20 and 30, what to press, the Cat Form quest at 20, the Bear Form and Aquatic Form quests, gear and dungeons up to 30 and what Forever changed, including the 1 October Druid changes.
Written for the WoW Forever beta, where the level cap has been 30 since the 1 October 2026 maintenance (build 1.60.1.70170). Blizzard hasn't said when the cap will rise again. Spells, forms, ranks, tooltips and talents come from the Forever beta client. Class quests come from Classic's data and are labelled as such.
The Druid in a nutshell
A Druid is a shapeshifter. In your normal caster form you cast Nature and Arcane spells and heal. From level 10 you can turn into a bear and fight in melee (close combat), and at level 20 into a cat. That makes the Druid a hybrid: one class that can be a tank (the player who takes the hits in a group), a healer or a damage dealer, depending on your talents and your form.
Your resource changes with your form: mana in caster form, Rage in Bear Form and Energy in Cat Form. Rage builds up as you hit and get hit, and drains away out of combat. Energy refills steadily on its own. You wear leather (or cloth), and the client lets Druids use staves, daggers, maces, fist weapons and, from level 20, polearms. Druids also have a relic slot for an idol.
Good at while leveling
- Healing yourself. You can top up your own health after a fight instead of eating.
- Staying alive. Bear Form adds armor and health, and it's your panic button when a fight goes wrong.
- Doing a bit of everything. You can tank, heal or deal damage in a group, and switch between them with a respec.
- Buffing. Mark of the Wild and Thorns make everyone around you tougher.
Weak at while leveling
- The first ten levels, before Bear Form, when you're a caster with a small mana pool.
- Shapeshifting costs mana, so switching forms back and forth in a fight drains you fast.
- Getting around: Cat Form arrives at 20, and Travel Form only at 30.
- Groups of mobs as a caster: Balance has no area damage spell before level 40.
Choosing a race
Four races can be Druids in Forever: Night Elf and High Order Skyborne for the Alliance, and Tauren and Windshaper Skyborne for the Horde. Blizzard says the Skyborne get new Druid forms made just for them. No race is the best: racials (race abilities) are small next to your spells and talents, so pick the faction your friends play and the look you like.
| Race | Starts in | Racials that help a Druid |
|---|---|---|
| Night Elf (Alliance) | Teldrassil | Elune's Light adds 10% crit chance with all spells and attacks for 15 sec. Quickness adds 1% dodge and 2% run speed, and makes Druids harder to spot while prowling in Cat Form. Shadowmeld hides you while you stand still. Wisp Spirit makes you faster as a ghost, which shortens the run back after a death. |
| High Order Skyborne (Alliance) | Zephras Isle, levels 1–12 | Read Ley Line raises Health and Mana regeneration by 100%, for 15 min if you find a ley line and 15 sec if not. Wind Blessed adds 1% Haste. Walk on Air lets you glide down from heights. Elemental Insight adds 5% damage against Elementals. |
| Tauren (Horde) | Mulgore | Endurance adds 5% health and 1% hit chance. War Stomp stuns up to 5 enemies within 8 yards for 2 sec. Plainsrunning speeds you up the longer you keep moving, up to 30%. Cultivation grows a herb you can pick without Herbalism. |
| Windshaper Skyborne (Horde) | Zephras Isle, levels 1–12 | Skysight adds 10% movement and mounted speed, for 15 min if you find an elemental convergence and 30 sec if not. Wind Blessed adds 1% Haste. Walk on Air lets you glide down from heights. Elemental Insight adds 5% damage against Elementals. |
Racials from the Forever client. Starting zones for Night Elves and Tauren are Classic data; the Skyborne start on Zephras Isle, and which Skyborne gets Read Ley Line or Skysight, come from Blizzard's Meet the New Skyborne post.
Blizzard's September 24 notes added a player level requirement to Tauren Cultivation for each herb. More on every race is in races, classes and racials and meet the Skyborne.
Your spells and forms, level by level
You learn spells, and stronger ranks of spells you already have, from a Druid trainer in your starting area and in the capital cities. The client has something new for Druids at level 1 and at every even level from 4 to 30, so visit a trainer each time you reach an even level. A few come from class quests instead: Forever's Cat Form quest at 20, and Classic's Bear Form, Cure Poison and Aquatic Form quests (see Class quests up to 30 below). Everything a Druid learns up to level 30, from the Forever client. Some come from a class quest instead of the trainer; a Classic quest is Classic's data, not yet confirmed in Forever.
The spells that matter, in the order you get them
- Level 1. Wrath is your first attack, a Nature spell. Healing Touch heals a friendly target, yourself included. Mark of the Wild adds armor for 1 hour; from the next rank it raises all your attributes too, so keep it on yourself and your friends.
- Level 4. Moonfire is instant: it hits with Arcane damage and then burns for 9 sec. Rejuvenation heals over 12 sec and is instant too.
- Level 6. Thorns hurts anything that hits the target with Nature damage, for 10 min. Keep it on yourself while you level.
- Level 8. Entangling Roots roots a mob in place for up to 12 sec while it takes a little damage. Damage may break it early, and you can only have one mob rooted at a time.
- Level 10 is the big Druid level: Bear Form (see the forms section below), with Maul, Demoralizing Roar and Growl to use in it. In Classic, Bear Form, Maul and Growl came from a class quest, not the trainer (see below). You also learn Teleport: Moonglade, and your first talent point arrives.
- Level 12. Regrowth heals right away and then over 21 sec. Enrage gives you 10 Rage at once and 20 more over 10 sec in Bear Form, but lowers your base armor by 27% while it lasts. Revive, new in Forever, brings a dead player back to life out of combat.
- Level 14. Bash stuns a mob for 2 sec in Bear Form. Cure Poison removes a poison.
- Level 16. Aquatic Form makes you swim 50% faster and breathe underwater. Swipe hits 3 nearby enemies in Bear Form.
- Level 18. Hibernate puts a Beast or a Dragonkin to sleep for up to 20 sec; any damage wakes it. Faerie Fire lowers a mob's armor for 40 sec.
- Level 20 is the other big one: see the next section.
Level 20: Cat Form and more
- Cat Form is a melee form that uses Energy, and in Forever it comes from a quest, not the trainer: The Great Cat Spirit sends you to the Stormrage Barrow Dens for three relics. Finishing it teaches Cat Form, Prowl and your first two Cat attacks, Claw and Rip, all at once (see Class quests up to 20 below).
- Claw hits for 110% of normal damage plus a bit more and adds a combo point to the target.
- Rip is a finisher: it spends your combo points on a bleed that lasts 12 sec, and more points mean more damage.
- Prowl lets you sneak around in Cat Form, at the cost of 40% of your movement speed. Like Claw and Rip, its first rank comes with the Cat Form quest; the trainer sells the higher ranks.
- Omen of Clarity is now a passive every Druid learns: your spells and attacks sometimes give you Clearcasting, which makes your next damage or healing spell free. Wrath doesn't use it up.
- Starfire is a big Arcane spell with a long cast, the Balance opener.
- Rebirth raises a dead player during a fight, with 400 health and 700 mana. It has a 30 min cooldown in the client.
- New ranks too: Healing Touch, Mark of the Wild and Demoralizing Roar.
- Not from the trainer: Feral Charge is a Feral talent you can take at 20 once you have 10 points in Feral Combat. In Bear Form you charge an enemy, which also stops its spell and holds it in place for 4 sec.
Levels 21 to 30
Since the 1 October build you can train all of these in the beta. Cat Form fills out, and you get your first cleanses, your first group heal and Travel Form.
- Level 22. Shred is a strong Cat attack, 155% of normal damage plus a bonus, that only works from behind the target. Soothe Animal makes a Beast less likely to notice you. New ranks of Moonfire, Wrath and Rejuvenation.
- Level 24. Rake hits and then makes the target bleed over 9 sec, and gives a combo point like Claw. Remove Curse removes a Curse or a Bane from a friendly target. New ranks of Swipe, Regrowth, Thorns and Revive.
- Level 26. Dash makes you 50% faster for 15 sec and doesn't break Prowl. Abolish Poison cures a poison now and another every 2 sec for 8 sec. New ranks of Healing Touch, Maul and Starfire.
- Level 28. Challenging Roar makes every nearby enemy attack you for 6 sec, a tank's emergency button. Cower lowers your threat a little, for a cat about to pull a mob off the tank. Entangling Roots now roots for up to 18 sec. New ranks of Claw, Rip, Moonfire, Rejuvenation and Nature's Grasp.
- Level 30. Travel Form (see the forms section) makes you 40% faster outdoors. Tranquility is your first group heal: you channel it, and it heals every party member within 20 yards every 2 sec for 10 sec. Bash stuns for 3 sec. New ranks of Wrath, Shred, Regrowth, Faerie Fire, Mark of the Wild and Rebirth.
- Talents add more from 25: Primal Bite, Insect Swarm, Swiftmend and the new Shifting Power are tier 4 talents (see Talents below).
Above the current level 30 cap, the client has Ferocious Bite and Ravage at level 32, Pounce at level 36, and Dire Bear Form, Hurricane and Innervate at level 40.
Forms and shapeshifting
Click a form's button to shift into it, and click it again to go back to caster form. While you're in a form, your action bar swaps to that form's abilities, and you can't cast caster spells like Wrath or Healing Touch until you shift back. Every form in the client says the act of shapeshifting frees you from Polymorph and from movement-impairing effects, so shifting is also a way out of a slow or a root.
Shifting costs mana. In the client, Bear Form and Cat Form each cost 55% of your base mana (the mana your level gives you, not counting Intellect), and Aquatic Form 20%. So pick a form before the fight and stay in it; heal yourself in caster form between fights, not in the middle of one.
| Form | Level | What it's for |
|---|---|---|
| Bear Form | 10 | Tanking and safe solo leveling. It raises the armor from your items by 180% and adds health. Fight with Maul, Swipe and Demoralizing Roar, and from 20 with the Feral Charge talent if you take it. |
| Aquatic Form | 16 | Swimming: faster and with no need for air. |
| Cat Form | 20 (quest) | Melee damage and sneaking with Prowl. You earn it with the Great Cat Spirit quest, not from the trainer. At 20 it only has Claw and Rip, so it's best on single mobs and for getting around; Shred (22) and Rake (24) fill it out. |
| Travel Form | 30 | Faster travel outdoors, 40% faster than running. It only works outdoors, and like every form it frees you from slows. |
Druid forms in the Forever client.
- Rage comes from hitting and being hit. A fresh Bear Form starts with little, which is what Enrage is for. Since the 1 October build, Bear Form generates 75% more Rage when you land a critical strike.
- Energy refills on its own. Claw, Shred and Rake build combo points on your target, and Rip spends them.
- The Feral leveling build's Feral Swiftness makes Cat Form 30% faster, which is how Feral Druids get around between 20 and 30, with Dash at 26 for short bursts.
- Since the 1 October build every form is immune to Disarm. A Disarm that lands before you shift stays on you, though, and you deal less damage until it ends.
- On a gamepad, Blizzard's September 24 build added a shapeshift flyout to the Druid action bar.
Watch out: Blizzard's known issues list a bug where armor bonuses from consumables and buffs are multiplied by Bear Form's armor bonus. Your bear may look tougher than intended in the beta until it's fixed.
Healing yourself and staying alive
Healing yourself is the Druid's big leveling advantage. After a fight, shift back to caster form, heal up, and drink if your mana is low. Healing costs mana, so you still sit down sometimes, but you rarely need to buy food.
- Rejuvenation is cheap and instant: put it on yourself when a fight drags on, or right after it. Blizzard's September 24 notes say it can now land critical heals.
- Regrowth (level 12) heals right away and then over time, the best single heal after a hard fight.
- Healing Touch is your big heal. Higher ranks take a long time to cast, so use it between fights, not while a mob is hitting you.
- Thorns on yourself hurts every mob that hits you. Blizzard's notes say it now grows with your spell power.
- Entangling Roots: if a melee mob reaches you with lots of health left, root it and step back. Damage may break the root, so don't count on it lasting.
- Bear Form is your emergency button. If a fight as a caster goes wrong, shift and let your armor take the hits.
- Revive (level 12) raises a dead friend after a fight, and Rebirth (level 20) raises one during a fight, with a long cooldown.
- Forever adds campfires: sit by one for a few moments to get rested and pick up one-hour buffs. The Deep Dive recap explains how they work.
Talents: which spec to level
Your first talent point arrives at level 10 and you get one more every level, so you have 11 points at 20 and 21 at 30. The Druid talent tree has three sections, Balance (caster damage), Feral Combat (Bear and Cat) and Restoration (healing), and your spec (specialization) is the section you put most points in. Each row of a section needs 5 more points in the rows above it, so the first row is open from level 10, the second from 15, the third from 20, the fourth from 25 and the fifth at 30, once you have 20 points in that section. Some talents also need the one above them at full rank first, shown by an arrow.
ForeverDB publishes a leveling build for each tree at 20, and the same build carried on to 30, on the Druid builds page. You can try them in the talent calculator. Here's what each level 20 leveling build takes:
| Build | Talents at 20 (points) | What it does for you |
|---|---|---|
| Feral Combat: Bear to cat leveling | Ferocity 5, Heart of the Wild 3, Feral Swiftness 2, Savage Fury 1 | Cheaper Maul, Swipe and Claw, more health and mana, a much faster Cat Form for travel and a little more damage. Bear Form carries you from 10 to 20. |
| Balance: Fast Wrath caster | Improved Wrath 5, Moonglow 3, Nature's Majesty 2, Nature's Splendor 1 | A mana-light caster: at 5/5, Improved Wrath makes Wrath cast faster for half the mana, Moonglow cuts the cost of every damage spell, and the rest adds crits and a longer Moonfire. |
| Restoration: Caster-healer with Improved Wrath | Improved Wrath 5, Nature's Focus 5, Naturalist 1 | Levels slowly but works: five Balance points make Wrath fast and cheap, and Nature's Focus means mobs push your casts back less often. |
The published level 20 leveling builds. The builds page explains every point.
At 30 each build keeps its level 20 points and spends 10 more:
| Build | Talents at 30 (points) | What the 10 new points add |
|---|---|---|
| Feral Combat: Cat and bear leveling | Ferocity 5, Heart of the Wild 5, Feral Swiftness 2, Savage Fury 2, Sharpened Claws 2, Predatory Strikes 3, Blood Frenzy 1, Predatory Instincts 1 | Heart of the Wild at 21 and 22, Savage Fury's second point at 23, Sharpened Claws at 24 and 25, Predatory Strikes at 26 to 28, Blood Frenzy at 29 and Predatory Instincts at 30: more attack power, crit and crit damage in both forms, and crits that give Rage in Bear Form or an extra combo point in Cat Form. |
| Balance: Root-and-nuke caster | Improved Wrath 5, Moonglow 3, Nature's Majesty 2, Nature's Reach 2, Improved Entangling Roots 3, Nature's Splendor 1, Insect Swarm 1, Improved Starfire 3, Nature's Grace 1 | Improved Entangling Roots at 21 to 23, Nature's Reach at 24, Insect Swarm at 25, Improved Starfire at 26 to 28, Nature's Reach's second point at 29 and Nature's Grace at 30: a root that survives your own spells, a second damage over time spell, a faster Starfire and faster casting after a crit. |
| Restoration: Caster-healer with Swiftmend | Improved Wrath 5, Nature's Focus 5, Naturalist 5, Reflection 3, Gift of Nature 2, Swiftmend 1 | Naturalist at 21 to 24, Reflection at 25 to 27, Gift of Nature at 28 and 29 and Swiftmend at 30: more damage, a faster Healing Touch, mana while you cast and an instant emergency heal on yourself. |
The published level 30 leveling builds. The builds page explains every point and has dungeon, tank, healing and PvP builds too.
Our pick for a first Druid is Feral. Bear Form is sturdy, rarely needs to stop to heal, and turns you into a tank for dungeons; at 20, Cat Form with Feral Swiftness gets you around quickly, and from 24 Rake makes Cat Form a good way to kill single mobs. Pick Balance if you'd rather cast from range. The builds page itself says that if leveling speed matters most, you should level as Feral or Balance and respec to heal later.
Forever's talent tree moved some things around. Omen of Clarity is no longer a talent: every Druid learns it from the trainer at 20. Feral Charge is a Feral talent at 20, and Insect Swarm is a Balance talent from 25. Improved Mark of the Wild, which Blizzard's Deep Dive said would become baseline, isn't in the talent tree any more. The 1 October build removed the King of the Jungle talent, moved Shredding Attacks up to the third row (open at 20), and added Shifting Power in the fourth row, which needs Shredding Attacks at 3/3: in Cat Form it turns Mana into Energy. Improved Shifting Power in the fifth row shortens its cooldown. The leveling build skips both, since Shred needs you behind the mob; the group cat build on the builds page takes Shifting Power.
Tip: Changing your mind is cheap in the beta. Blizzard's September 24 notes set a talent reset to 1 silver if you haven't reset recently; after a reset the next one costs much more, and the price drops back to 1 silver after an hour. Blizzard says this is for the beta only.
What to press
Your rotation is the order you use your abilities in. These come from the builds page, in plain words. A pull is how you start a fight, and a mob that's attacking you is said to have aggro on you.
Feral, one enemy (Bear Form, levels 10 to 20)
- Pull from range with Moonfire (instant) or Wrath.
- Shift into Bear Form as the mob runs at you.
- Use Enrage if you need Rage to start with. Skip it if you're already taking heavy hits, since it lowers your armor.
- Demoralizing Roar, so the mob hits you softer.
- Maul whenever you have Rage to spare: it adds damage to your next swing.
- Save Bash to stop a dangerous spell.
- After the fight, shift back, heal with Rejuvenation or Regrowth, and drink if you need mana.
At 20 you can take the Feral Charge talent (the Feral tank build does): it closes the gap from 8 to 25 yards away and interrupts a spell, so you can reach a caster that won't come to you. It can't be used on a mob that's already next to you.
Feral, Cat Form (from 20)
Shift into Cat Form, Claw until you have 4 or 5 combo points, then Rip anything that will live for most of its 12 sec. Cat Form only has Claw and Rip at 20, so it's best on single mobs; stay in Bear Form when two or three mobs come at you.
Balance, one enemy
- Open with Starfire from as far away as you can once you learn it at 20 (Wrath before that).
- Cast Moonfire right after, and whenever you have to move.
- Cast Wrath until the mob dies. Improved Wrath makes it cheap, and it doesn't use up Clearcasting.
- When Omen of Clarity gives you Clearcasting, spend it on your most expensive spell: Starfire in a fight, or Healing Touch after one.
- If a melee mob reaches you with lots of health left, root it with Entangling Roots and step back.
Several enemies
- Bear: Demoralizing Roar first, then Swipe, which hits 3 nearby enemies at once, and Maul on your main target with leftover Rage.
- Balance: root one melee mob, or Hibernate a Beast or Dragonkin, then Moonfire each mob and kill them one at a time.
- Restoration: Moonfire, then Wrath; put Rejuvenation on yourself if the fight drags on, and shift to Bear Form if two mobs come at once.
At 30
- Feral, Cat Form: Rake first for the bleed, then Claw to 4 or 5 combo points, then Rip if the mob will live long enough; otherwise keep Clawing. Shred only works from behind, so solo it's for mobs busy with someone else. Switch to Bear Form when two or more mobs are on you: Demoralizing Roar, Swipe and Maul.
- Balance: open with Starfire from max range, then Moonfire and Insect Swarm, and finish with Wrath. Cast Nature's Grasp before a melee mob reaches you so its first hit roots it, or root it with Entangling Roots and step back; Improved Entangling Roots means your spells break the root far less often. Spend Clearcasting on Starfire.
- Restoration: the same caster style as at 20, Moonfire and then Wrath. Put Rejuvenation on yourself early in a hard fight, and if you drop low, Swiftmend it for an instant heal.
- In a group: Faerie Fire on the boss helps your melee and hunters. Remove Curse and Abolish Poison clear curses and poisons, and Tranquility heals the whole party when everyone is taking damage.
Class quests up to 30
Every Druid class quest the client has comes at level 20 or earlier. The client lists no Druid class quest between 21 and 30, so everything you get in those levels comes from the trainer or your talents; Travel Form at 30 is a trainer spell.
Level 20: The Great Cat Spirit (Forever)
Forever turned Cat Form into a quest. At level 20, The Great Cat Spirit sends you to the Stormrage Barrow Dens, one of Forever's new areas, to collect three relics. Finishing it teaches Cat Form together with Prowl, Claw and Rip (the Forever client's new quest reward spell teaches all four), and gives you a 5-minute buff, Blessed by the Great Cat Spirit. Skyborne Druids most likely get a Windborne version of the quest that ends with Blessed by the Great Windborne Cat Spirit. Classic Era's trainer sold Cat Form at 20; Forever's doesn't.
Watch out: Over the weekend of September 27 one of the relics gave a no loot error when several players clicked it at once. Blizzard's Josh Aggrend Greenfield said a fix went out on September 28 (our news story). One player reported that abandoning the quest halfway left them unable to pick it up again, which Blizzard hasn't confirmed, so don't abandon it.
Classic's class quests (10, 14 and 16)
In Classic, Druids earned Bear Form at 10, Cure Poison at 14 and Aquatic Form at 16 through class quests, several of them in Moonglade, which you reach with Teleport: Moonglade. The Forever client still has the spells those quests cast to teach you (Bear Form with Maul and Growl, Cure Poison, Aquatic Form), and no trainer data, so the quests most likely still work the same way, but nobody has confirmed them in the beta yet. The table is Classic's data. It only has Night Elf and Tauren versions, so Skyborne Druids may get their own path.
| Level | Quests | Who and where | Reward in Classic |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Verdant Sigil (Night Elf), Verdant Note (Tauren) | Conservator Ilthalaine in Teldrassil or Grull Hawkwind in Mulgore | Sends you to your Druid trainer |
| 10 | Heeding the Call, Moonglade, Great Bear Spirit, Back to Darnassus or Back to Thunder Bluff, Body and Heart | Mathrengyl Bearwalker in Darnassus or Turak Runetotem in Thunder Bluff, and Dendrite Starblaze in Moonglade | Bear Form |
| 14 | Lessons Anew, The Principal Source, Gathering the Cure, Curing the Sick, Power over Poison | Dendrite Starblaze in Moonglade, then Alanndarian Nightsong in Auberdine, Darkshore, or Tonga Runetotem at the Crossroads, The Barrens | Cure Poison, and Veildust Medicine Bag from Curing the Sick |
| 16 | A Lesson to Learn, Trial of the Lake, Trial of the Sea Lion, Aquatic Form | Dendrite Starblaze and Tajarri in Moonglade | Aquatic Form and Aquarius Belt |
Classic data (CMaNGOS classic-db) for class quests the Forever client has. Map pins use Classic positions placed on Forever's maps.
- Body and Heart (10): in Classic you use Cenarion Moondust or Lunardust on a Moonkin Stone (near Auberdine for Night Elves, between Mulgore and The Barrens for Tauren) and defeat Lunaclaw.
- Gathering the Cure (14): Classic's version asks for 5 Earthroot and 12 Lunar Fungus (Alliance) or 5 Earthroot and 5 Kodo Horns (Horde). Curing the Sick then has you treat 10 Sickly Deer in Darkshore or 10 Sickly Gazelles in the northern Barrens.
- Trial of the Lake and Trial of the Sea Lion (16): in Classic you find a Shrine Bauble in Lake Elune'ara and use it at the Shrine of Remulos, then find the two halves of the Pendant of the Sea Lion; the people of Moonglade give clues.
Speculation: Forever made Cat Form a quest and kept the reward spells of these Classic quests in its client, so expect to do them. If your trainer does offer Bear Form, Cure Poison or Aquatic Form at 10, 14 or 16, you can skip that quest.
Gear, weapons and professions
Wear leather: it has more armor than cloth, which matters most in Bear Form. What stats you want depends on your spec. Feral wants Stamina, Agility, Strength and armor. Balance wants spell power, Intellect and Spirit. Restoration wants healing power, Spirit and Intellect. Blizzard's Deep Dive says bonus healing now also gives a third as much bonus damage, and that caster weapons now give spell damage, which helps a Druid who both fights and heals.
The gear planner scores every item for your spec and level (switch the spec to Feral Combat or Restoration there), and the gear lists on the Druid PvE page show the best items for each slot at 20 and 30 and where they come from. Some highlights from those lists:
- Leatherworking makes much of the best leather at 20. Feral: Brawler's Leather Hood (level 20), Defender's Leather Armor (level 15) and Defender's Leather Pants (level 20). Balance: Stormrider's Leather Armor (level 15) and Stormrider's Leather Pants (level 20). Restoration: Wisdom's Leather Armor (level 15), Wisdom's Leather Pants (level 20) and Wisdom's Leather Hood (level 20).
- At 30, Leatherworking still tops several slots. Feral: Brawler's Leather Helm (level 25), Defender's Leather Tunic (level 22), Defender's Leather Kilt (level 25) and Warden's Leather Belt (level 30). Balance: Totemic Leather Helm (level 25) and Skycaller's Leather Belt (level 30). Restoration: Wisdom's Leather Leggings (level 25) and Mender's Leather Belt (level 30).
- Dungeons up to 30: Classic's loot tables put Death Speaker Mantle and, for healers, Death Speaker Scepter on Death Speaker Jargba in Razorfen Kraul, Wolfclaw Gloves in Razorfen Kraul too, Watchman Pauldrons in Scarlet Monastery and Moss Cinch on Aku'mai in Blackfathom Deeps.
- Idols: the client has Druid idols from level 1. Idol of Shifting Tides makes your shapeshifting spells cost 40 less mana, Mark of Urs'endris raises the armor from your items by 4%, and Mystic Mushroom (level 20) adds 5% Spirit and is made by Enchanters.
- Dungeons: Classic's loot tables put Rhahk'Zor's Hammer in the Deadmines and Footpads of the Fang in Wailing Caverns.
- Class quest rewards: in Classic's data, Veildust Medicine Bag (level 14 quests) and Aquarius Belt (level 16 quests).
Professions that suit a Druid: Skinning and Leatherworking (you skin the beasts you kill anyway, and Leatherworking makes your armor), or Herbalism, which pairs with Alchemy and, for a Tauren, with Cultivation. Enchanting is an option too, since it makes the Mystic Mushroom idol. The professions guide explains how each one works in Forever.
Grouping and your first dungeon
In a group you can fill any role, which makes Druids easy to find groups for. The tank holds the mobs' attention, the healer keeps everyone alive, and the damage dealers kill what the tank is holding. Whatever you play, damage and healing both build threat (how much a mob wants to attack you), so let the tank get a few hits in first.
- Everyone: Mark of the Wild on the whole group before the first pull, and Thorns on the tank.
- As a bear tank: Demoralizing Roar and Swipe on packs, Maul on your main target, Growl to take back a mob that runs at the healer. Growl does nothing on a mob that's already attacking you.
- As a healer: keep Rejuvenation on the tank, use Regrowth for big hits and Healing Touch for steady damage, and remove damaging poisons with Cure Poison.
- As Balance: single-target damage and crowd control (CC): Hibernate a Beast or Dragonkin, or root one melee mob away from the group. You have no Moonkin Form before 40, so you can throw a heal at any moment.
- Rebirth can save a pull that's about to wipe, and Revive raises people after it's over.
The first dungeon guide walks you through your first run. The dungeon list has every instance with its bosses and quests, and the Druid PvE page has a tank, healer and damage build.
Dungeons from 20 to 30
Blizzard's 1 October notes list the dungeons open in the beta. These are the ones that fit levels 20 to 30. Blizzard gave levels only for the new and newly opened ones; the others are our dungeon list's ranges, which come from Classic-era data.
- The Deadmines, Wailing Caverns and Ruins of Lordaeron: the top end of their range, good for finishing their quests early in your 20s.
- Shadowfang Keep: about 20 to 30.
- The Stockade and Blackfathom Deeps: from about 24.
- Razorfen Downs: Blizzard says 25 and up, now open in the beta.
- Excavation Site: Wetlands: a new five-player dungeon for levels 26 to 31, with four bosses in the client: Saltspine, Shadetooth, Highland Horror and the Relic Guardian.
- Razorfen Kraul and Gnomeregan: from about 29.
- Scarlet Monastery and Uldaman: from 30 (Blizzard says 30 and up for Uldaman), so they're for when you hit the cap.
Dungeon quests are still worth doing, but since the 1 October build they give 50% less extra experience on top of normal quest values, because Blizzard felt playtesters were leveling too fast. More in our level 30 news story.
Common beginner mistakes
- Skipping the trainer. New ranks are big upgrades; check in at every even level.
- Waiting at the trainer for Cat Form. It comes from the Great Cat Spirit quest at 20, not the trainer.
- Shifting back and forth mid-fight. Each shift costs a big share of your mana. Pick a form and stay in it.
- Trying to heal in Bear Form. You have to shift back to caster form to cast heals.
- Using Enrage while you're taking heavy hits. It lowers your armor; use it at the start of a fight.
- Growling a mob that's already hitting you. It does nothing.
- Hitting a rooted mob and expecting it to stay rooted. Damage may break Entangling Roots.
- Hibernating the wrong target. It only works on Beasts and Dragonkin.
- Taking Cat Form into a pack at 20. It only has Claw and Rip; Bear Form handles groups.
- Shredding from the front. Shred only works from behind the target; facing a mob, use Claw.
- Forgetting your buffs. Keep Mark of the Wild and Thorns on yourself.
What Forever changed for Druids
- New spells: Revive gives Druids an out-of-combat resurrection at level 12, and Feral Charge is a new Feral talent at 20. Both are new in the Forever client.
- Cat Form is a quest: at 20, The Great Cat Spirit teaches Cat Form, Prowl, Claw and Rip. In Classic Era you bought them from the trainer.
- September 24 notes: Rejuvenation and Tranquility can now crit, Wrath's base damage is up about 50% (the client tooltips we have don't show it yet), and Thorns now grows with the caster's spell power, falling back to its base values if the caster is too far away.
- 1 October build (level 30): Tiger's Fury and the King of the Jungle talent are gone. The new Shifting Power talent turns Mana into Energy in Cat Form (Blizzard: 40 Energy for 55% of your base Mana, the same as Cat Form, on a 16 sec cooldown), and Improved Shifting Power shortens its cooldown. Bear Form and Dire Bear Form generate 75% more Rage from critical strikes, Swipe now gains 3% of your attack power (Blizzard says the tooltip will catch up later), Faerie Fire no longer resets your swing timer, every form is immune to Disarm, and Primal Bite's threat was roughly doubled.
- Feral renames: Mangle is now Primal Bite (a Feral talent from 25), and the Primal Fury talent is back to its original name, Blood Frenzy.
- Stronger basics: going by the client's old and new tooltips, Mark of the Wild lasts 1 hour (30 min in Classic), Bear Form adds 180 health (20 in Classic), Enrage now gives Rage instantly, and Entangling Roots no longer says outdoors only.
- A new talent tree: Improved Wrath now also cuts Wrath's mana cost (by half at 5/5), Omen of Clarity is a trainer passive at 20 that can proc from spells, Feral Swiftness makes Cat Form up to 30% faster with no outdoors limit, and Nature's Focus covers all your Arcane and Nature spells. Insect Swarm moved to Balance, Swiftmend to Restoration's fourth row, and there are new talents such as Genesis, Nature's Majesty and Gift of the Earthmother.
- Spells scale better with gear: the client gives Wrath and Healing Touch rank 1 0.429 of your spell power, up from 0.123 in Classic.
- Polearms from level 20 and idols from level 1, going by the client.
- Skyborne Druids for both factions, with forms made for the race.
- Cooldown Manager: Druids can test Blizzard's new Cooldown Manager (Options, Gameplay Enhancement).
Every change we've found is on the Druid changes page, our Druid outlook looks further ahead, and Level 30 build goes live has all of the 1 October changes.
