Mage macros for WoW Forever: Polymorph and Counterspell on your focus or mouseover, Frost Nova and Blink that cut your own cast short, Flamestrike and Blizzard at your cursor, wards, buffs and curse removal on the friend under your mouse, conjuring on one key and every teleport on one button. Forever's Mage keeps Polymorph at level 8 and Counterspell at 24; Ice Block and Presence of Mind are talents.
19 Mage macros for WoW Forever, each with the code to copy, what it does, how to use it and the level it needs. Every spell name, rank and command is checked against the Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70170); none has been tested in the beta yet. Macros above the level 30 cap are marked Speculation.
What it does. Casts Polymorph on your focus if you have a living enemy focus; otherwise on the enemy under your mouse; otherwise on your target.
How to use it. Set the enemy to sheep as your focus before the pull (see the Set focus macro). When it wanders loose, or the sheep breaks, press this without changing target. Or just point at the enemy and press it.
Why it's useful. Re-sheeping the same enemy while you keep casting at the kill target is the most common thing a Mage does in dungeons. Swapping targets back and forth wastes time and gets the wrong enemy sheeped.
What it does. With Shift held, makes the enemy under your mouse (or your target) your focus and sheeps it. Without Shift, re-sheeps your focus, or your target if you have no focus.
How to use it. At the pull: point at the enemy to sheep, hold Shift and press. For the rest of the fight press it on its own whenever the sheep breaks.
Why it's useful. Setting the focus and casting on it is one press instead of two, and you never sheep the tank's target by mistake afterwards.
What it does. Stops whatever you're casting, then Counterspells your focus, the enemy under your mouse or your target, in that order.
How to use it. Make the enemy healer or caster your focus. When its cast bar starts, press this even if you're halfway through a Frostbolt.
Why it's useful. An interrupt is only good the moment the enemy's cast starts. Waiting for your own cast to finish, or swapping targets, is usually too late.
Usable from level 10. 53/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.
Damage can break the freeze early: don't Nova and then Arcane Explosion.
Frostbolt rank 1 to slow for less mana
#showtooltip Frostbolt
/cast Frostbolt(Rank 1)
What it does. Casts rank 1 of Frostbolt: little damage, very little mana, and still the 40% slow (5 sec at rank 1, 6 sec at rank 2 and more after that in the client).
How to use it. Use it to keep an enemy slowed while you kite it, or to pull from range for almost no mana. Keep plain Frostbolt on another key for damage.
Why it's useful. Kiting is about the slow, not the damage. A cheap rank keeps you from running out of mana halfway through.
Usable from level 4. 46/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.
Typed exactly as the client's spellbook writes it when you shift-click a rank into the macro window: Frostbolt(Rank 1), with no space before the bracket.
Staying alive
Mages die fast when something reaches them. These macros make your escapes happen the instant you press them.
Blink, even while casting
#showtooltip Blink
/stopcasting
/cast Blink
What it does. Stops your current cast and Blinks you 20 yards forward, breaking stuns and roots.
How to use it. Face away from the danger and press it. Pair it with Frost Nova: Nova, then Blink away.
Why it's useful. Blink queued behind a long cast comes too late. This makes it happen now.
What it does. Casts Ice Block. If you're already in Ice Block, the same key breaks it (the /cancelaura line removes it and the /cast line then fails on its cooldown).
How to use it. Press it to survive a burst of damage, and press it again the moment you're safe, instead of waiting out the full 10 sec.
Why it's useful. Ice Block stops you casting too. Breaking it as soon as the danger has passed gets you back to damage, drinking or running sooner.
Usable from level 25. 73/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.
Ice Block is a Frost talent in Forever's talent tree (level 25 tier).
Don't double-tap it: the second press breaks the block you just made.
Mana Shield, Fire Ward and Frost Ward on one key
#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift] Fire Ward; [mod:ctrl] Frost Ward; Mana Shield
What it does. Mana Shield on its own, Fire Ward with Shift, Frost Ward with Ctrl.
How to use it. Use Mana Shield when something is hitting you and you have mana to spare, and the matching ward when an enemy caster or boss uses fire or frost.
Why it's useful. Three defensive spells that you use now and then share one key, so they don't cost three bar slots.
Usable from level 20. 46/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.
Moving stops the channel.
Presence of Mind, then an instant spell
#showtooltip Presence of Mind
/cast Presence of Mind
/cast [mod:shift] Frostbolt; Fireball
What it does. Activates Presence of Mind and casts Fireball (or Frostbolt with Shift) straight away, which Presence of Mind makes instant.
How to use it. Press it when you need a big spell while moving, or to open a fight with an instant hit.
Why it's useful. Presence of Mind only matters if the next spell follows right away. One key does both, so the effect is never wasted on a spell you didn't want.
Usable from level 5. 136/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.
In the Forever client the mana gem shares its 2-minute cooldown with healthstones (spell category 1153): a gem locks out the Warlock's healthstone, and the other way round.
The potion lines work because every mana potion shares the potion cooldown (category 4).
Teleports
Forever's Mages get city teleports at 20 and 30, and portals at 40 and 50. Alliance Mages also have Teleport: Dalaran, new in Forever at level 50.
Usable from level 20. Works at the cap without Teleport: Dalaran (level 50): that part is above the beta's level 30 cap. 132/255 characters. Not yet tested in the beta.
The client teaches these only to Alliance Mages. Teleport: Darnassus needs level 30 and Teleport: Dalaran level 50.
