Blizzard's 'Your Adventure Begins' video: Forever's new levelling, checked against the client

· ForeverDB
Blizzard's official 'Your Adventure Begins' video walks through Forever's levelling: over 1000 new quests, a new zone, nine new dungeons and updated travel. Only two abilities in it can be pinned to the client, a Mage's Fireball and a Mage teleportation trial, and it says Paladins now appear among the Forsaken. We check those against the beta client and list the Paladin and Mage changes the video skipped.
This is an official World of Warcraft video from Blizzard's YouTube channel. Blizzard's words are quoted from the video. The names and numbers come from the WoW Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70291), compared with the Classic Era client. Beta data can change before launch.
Blizzard put out a five-and-a-half minute video, "Your Adventure Begins", about Forever's levelling journey: new quests, new starting-zone stories, a new zone, nine new dungeons and updated world travel. It is a tour, not a class breakdown, so most of it is lore and content we can't check against the client. Two things do line up with class data: the Mage casting a fireball at the start, and the Mage teleportation trial in Southshore. It also says Paladins now appear among the Forsaken. Here is what the client shows, and the Paladin and Mage changes the video left out.

The short version
- Blizzard says Forever adds "more than 1000 new quests", new quests in every race's starting zone, and expanded familiar zones.
- New stories explain how Paladins emerged among the Forsaken. The client can't hold starting-zone lore, but it does confirm a big Paladin rework.
- The only abilities we can tie to the client are the opening Fireball Fireball and the Mage Teleport: Dalaran teleportation trial.
- Nine new dungeons, including a new troll dungeon in Stranglethorn, the Drowned City, plus a reward refresh for every classic dungeon.
- A new zone, the Riverglades, with a different faction per side: the Brotherhood of the Horse for the Alliance, the Bolder'ok ogre clan for the Horde.
- New travel options, including a Hillsbrad stop on the Wetlands to Darkshore route and Stormwind Harbor.
- This article also lists the Paladin and Mage changes the video skipped.
Claim by claim
| Ability | Blizzard says | The client says | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fireball Fireball | Opens on a Mage casting a fireball (0:24). | Learned from the trainer at level 1; rank 1 does 14 to 22 Fire damage plus 2 over 4 sec. In Forever 11 of 12 ranks do less damage (rank 12: 425 to 541 plus 60 over 8 sec, down from 596 to 760), but low ranks scale better with spell power. | Adds detail |
| Teleport: Dalaran Teleport: Dalaran | A Mage arrives in Southshore to complete his teleportation trial (3:37). | Forever adds a new Mage ability, Teleport: Dalaran, learned at level 50, that is not in Classic Era. The client doesn't show what the trial itself grants. | Adds detail |
| Paladins among the Forsaken | New stories explain how Paladins emerged among the Forsaken (1:40). | The client holds no starting-zone stories, but it confirms a full Paladin rework: Holy Strike at level 6, Seal of Fury at level 10, and Holy Shock moved to a level 30 talent. | Can't check the story |
Full rank-by-rank lists are on the Paladin and Mage changes pages.
Paladins among the Forsaken
The video spends its starting-zone section on the Forsaken, saying this is where new players learn how Paladins turned up among the undead.
In the Undead Starter Zone new stories explain how Paladins have emerged among the Forsaken and the less-than-welcoming attitudes of their newfound undead brethren. Blizzard, World of Warcraft: Forever - Your Adventure Begins (1:40)
The client can't tell us anything about that story, but it does confirm a reworked Paladin for whoever rolls one. Two abilities are new from Classic Era: Holy Strike Holy Strike at level 6 and Seal of Fury Seal of Fury at level 10. Holy Shock Holy Shock is pulled forward to a level 30 talent, so a levelling Paladin can reach it before the beta's level 30 cap. There is more below, under what the video didn't mention.
The Mage: a fireball and a teleportation trial
The video opens on a Mage casting a fireball, and later shows a Mage class quest that uses the new travel routes.
Some class quests even put these routes to use like this Mage who's arrived in Southshore to complete his teleportation trial. Blizzard, World of Warcraft: Forever - Your Adventure Begins (3:37)
Fireball Fireball is the same level 1 trainer spell as always, 14 to 22 Fire damage plus 2 over 4 sec at rank 1. In Forever it does less damage at nearly every rank (rank 12 is 425 to 541 plus 60 over 8 sec instead of 596 to 760) but scales better with spell power at low ranks. The client also adds a new Mage teleport, Teleport: Dalaran Teleport: Dalaran, at level 50, which isn't in Classic Era. Whether the "teleportation trial" is the quest that teaches it is not something the client shows, so treat that link as unconfirmed.
The rest of the journey
Most of the video is content we can't check against the client: quests, zones, dungeons and travel. These are Blizzard's own words.
With more than 1000 new quests added across Azeroth World of Warcraft Forever's levelling experience offers up tons of surprises for both new and returning players. Blizzard, World of Warcraft: Forever - Your Adventure Begins (0:34)
- New quests in every race's starting zone, and new stories added to the existing ones; one example given is new questlines in the Wetlands.
- Cooks can set up a campsite between adventures, and other players passing by can add their own fixtures to it.
- A new zone, the Riverglades, with its own landscapes, settlements and music; the Alliance meets the returning Brotherhood of the Horse, the Horde the new Bolder'ok ogre clan.
- Updated world travel, including a Hillsbrad stop on the shipping route from the Wetlands to Darkshore, and Stormwind Harbor.
- New pets and some class-specific weapon quests across the levelling journey.
And if the open air isn't your thing, there are plenty of quests coming in our nine new dungeons. Blizzard, World of Warcraft: Forever - Your Adventure Begins (4:29)
Blizzard says one of the nine is a new troll dungeon in Stranglethorn, the Drowned City, and that all the classic dungeons get "a full reward refresh with new and improved items". None of that is in the class client data we hold, so we can't check it yet.
