Paladin in WoW: Forever: what the datamine says is coming

· ForeverDB

What the Forever beta client and official posts reveal for Paladins: 12 new abilities, 2 reworked talent slots, 82 new class items.

Speculation. This outlook is built from datamined Forever beta client data (build 1.60.1.70009) and official Blizzard posts. The beta is capped at level 20; anything above that isn't playable yet and can change.

What Blizzard changed this week

From the official WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated September 24 (Kaivax, 2026-09-24):

  • Retribution Aura will now dynamically update its values based on the caster’s spell power.
  • Fixed a bug causing the Flash of Light cast animation to not play at the end of the spell cast.
  • Fixed various issues with Consecration.
  • Fixed an issue where Consecration would fail to apply its increased damage effect to some targets.
  • Fixed an issue where Consecration’s Z axis wasn’t functioning consistently.
  • Fixed an issue where Consecration could pull targets vertically above or below the caster.
  • Holy Strike’s % of weapon damage per rank changed to 25%/29%/32%/36%/39%/43%/46%/50% (was 25%/25%/30%/30%/35%/35%/40%/40%).
This increases Holy Strike’s damage at all points while leveling, and increases how much it contributes to your rotation. Early ranks of Holy Strike didn’t always feel like an upgrade when purchasing a new rank, and we wanted to adjust that. Kaivax, WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated September 24
  • Fixed a bug with Echo of Justice, causing it to have a higher than intended chance to activate.
  • Righteous Fury: Holy threat increase increased to 60% (was 90%).

Holy

  • Holy Strike’s cooldown lowered to 10 seconds (was 12 seconds).
  • Improved Holy Strike removed from the Talent Tree.
Even though there are sometimes cases where talents feel ‘required’ by classes, like Relentless Strikes for Rogues, having one that reduces the cooldown of a core ability so early on in a healing talent tree made this feel like a talent that was required. So we’ve removed it and made its behavior baseline. Kaivax, WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated September 24
  • Light’s Vigil’s tooltip has been reorganized to make it more clear that the damage component is the only version that returns some of the Mana cost.
  • Holy Power now increases the Critical Strike chance of Holy Strike by 15% and retains all of its old effects.

Retribution

  • Vengeance now activates off of non-periodic critical strikes.
  • Vengeance’s maximum stacks lowered to 3 (was 5).
  • Two-Handed Weapon Specialization’s damage increase reduced to 2/4/6% (was 3/6/9%).
  • Sacred Arbiter now increases the damage of Holy Strike by 20% (was 10%).
  • Twist of Light now additionally reduces the Mana cost of your Seal spells by 20%.

New abilities in the client

12 Paladin abilities exist in the Forever client but not in Classic Era:

  • Holy Light — level 1 — available in the beta now. Heals a friendly target for 1495 to 1665.
  • Swift Judgement — level 1 — available in the beta now. Finishes the remaining cooldown on your Judgement ability and reduces the Mana cost of your next Judgement by 100%.
  • Holy Strike — level 6 — available in the beta now. An instant strike that causes 50% weapon damage plus an additional 81 to 105 as Holy damage.
  • Seal of Fury — level 10 — available in the beta now. Fills the Paladin with divine fury for 30 sec, causing melee attacks to deal an additional 35 Holy damage.
  • Flash of Light — level 20 — available in the beta now. Heals a friendly target for 286 to 320.
  • Voice of Truth — level 20 — available in the beta now. Grants you immunity to Silence and Interrupt effects.
  • Judgement of Fury — learned outside the trainer. Judge the target, dealing Holy damage.
  • Templar's Bulwark — level 30 — above the current cap. When activated, this ability grants you an absorb shield equal to 100% of your maximum health for 8 sec.
  • Light's Vigil — level 40 — above the current cap. Applies Light's Vigil to the target for 30 sec.
  • Improved Seal of Fury — learned outside the trainer. When Seal of Fury's shield is fully absorbed, restore ?
  • Sanctified Judgement — learned outside the trainer. Gives your Judgement ability a 100% chance to return 60% of the Mana cost of the judged seal.
  • Twist of Light — learned outside the trainer. Reduces the Mana cost of your Seal spells by 20%, and when you replace your Seal of Command, Seal of Righteousness, Seal of Fury, or Seal of Justice with a different Seal, gain an…

Talent trees

  • 2 talent slots (Holy tier 3, Protection tier 5) point to spells that have no record in the client. The talent is still in the tree, but its name and effect are defined server-side, which usually means it was reworked.

Tuning signals in the spell data

3 Paladin spell ranks carry a different spell-power coefficient than in Classic Era. The biggest moves:

Paladin-only gear that's new in Forever

Our read (speculation)

Protection looks like the spec with the most to gain at 30. Templar's Bulwark arrives at that level: an absorb shield equal to your maximum health that applies Forbearance, matching the survival tool the Deep Dive recap described for tanks. Seal of Fury (level 10) and Swift Judgement (level 1) are already trainable, so by 30 a Protection Paladin should have much of that toolkit, while Holy waits for Light's Vigil at 40. Of the two server-side talent slots, Holy tier 3 is reachable now, and the one-point Protection slot in tier 5 sits where other trees keep their 21-point talents, so it should open at 30.

This week's notes put Holy Strike at the center of the class. Improved Holy Strike was removed from the Holy tree and its effect made baseline, so the cooldown is now 10 seconds for everyone; each rank now adds more weapon damage, Holy Power adds crit to it and Sacred Arbiter's bonus doubled. Since every Paladin trains Holy Strike at level 6, it's shaping up as the one button shared by tanking, healing and Retribution. Retribution itself got a trim, with fewer Vengeance stacks and a smaller Two-Handed Weapon Specialization bonus, while Twist of Light now also makes Seals cheaper.

Gear and story hints line up nicely. Blade of Bandarion, a Paladin-only sword at level 47, shares its name with Bandarion Keep, where the Found Photos recap sets the Forsaken Paladin Journey, so we'd guess it's a reward from that storyline, though the client doesn't say. Two more Paladin-only weapons, Wolfsbane and Moonsilver Blade, sit at level 26, and Tenets of the Silver Hand is a level 20 libram that adds damage against Undead, in keeping with the anti-Undead identity the Deep Dive recap stresses. Undead Paladins are one of Forever's new race and class combinations.
