Esfand reads WoW Forever's launch-eve class patch notes: what the beta client confirms

The Searing Gorge map from the WoW Forever client

· ForeverDB

Two days before launch, Blizzard posted a huge round of class changes, and Esfand walks through them in a 58-minute video. We checked the named changes against the live beta client, build 1.60.1.70790: the Paladin, Druid, Hunter, Mage and Priest changes line up. Two Paladin talents, Voice of Truth and Improved Seal of Fury, were called "removed" but still exist in the client, now as a baseline ability and a passive.

This is a community video. Esfand reads through WoW Forever's official beta development notes (Blizzard posted them to the forums on 2 November) and gives their own take as they go. The patch-note text itself is Blizzard's wording. We checked each named change against the live WoW Forever beta client, build 1.60.1.70790. Rage, energy, mana regen and damage totals are worked out on the server, so where a number isn't in the client we say so. Beta data can still change before launch on 4 November 2026.

The headline is a design U-turn. Blizzard say they stopped holding each class to Classic power budgets, "raised damage on classes across the game" and "increased the health of higher level creatures to compensate". The stated aim is for every class to feel valuable with "powerful, unforgettable moments". The bulk of the detail, though, is a class-by-class talent reshuffle, and that part we can line up against the client. Esfand's run goes through the general notes, Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin and Priest in the section we're checking here.

The short version

  • Blizzard raised class damage across the board and bumped higher-level creature health to match. Those numbers are server-side, so the client can't confirm them.
  • Launch tuning is close to locked. In Blizzard's words they "don't plan on making big tuning changes between now and the opening of the raids next month", and they call all of it "a starting point".
  • Paladin got the biggest reshuffle, and the client backs it up: Righteous Fury Righteous Fury is trainable at level 10 (was 16) and gives a flat 33% to all threat, Holy Power Holy Power now boosts crit healing by up to 50% instead of crit chance, and there's a stack of new talents (Oath of Light, Boundless Light, Stoicism, Iron Creed, Shieldsworn, Turn Evil, Champion of the Light, Unsealed Wrath).
  • Druid: Lacerate Lacerate is now a Feral talent, Ferocious Bite Ferocious Bite has a new rank 1 at level 24, Bloom Bloom replaces Gift of the Earth Mother, and there's a new Poised Poised passive at level 32.
  • Hunter: Pathfinding Pathfinding moved to Beast Mastery tier 3, Trueshot Aura Trueshot Aura moved up to Marksmanship tier 4, traps share one 30-second cooldown, and Sniper Shot Sniper Shot was buffed.
  • Two Paladin changes don't match what the notes said: Voice of Truth Voice of Truth and Improved Seal of Fury Improved Seal of Fury were called removed, but the client keeps both, one as a level-20 ability and one as a passive.
  • The article also flags the many numbers the client can't show yet (energy savings, trap cooldowns, trainer gold), which stay server-side until players test them.

Blizzard's wording is Esfand reading the beta development notes. Client facts are from WoW Forever build 1.60.1.70790.

The changes that hit everyone

A few notes apply to all classes. Learning a new spell no longer drops it onto your action bars, and trainer costs were retuned so the total comes to "between 206 and 207 gold for all classes" (Warlocks pay less to cover grimoires for their pets). Various procs lost their penalty for triggering off low-rank spells, with only Blizzard's Arcane Concentration still docked when you cast a rank more than 12 levels below you. That matches the low-rank spell power change we datamined earlier in the beta.

Base stats were corrected too. Esfand reads that Tauren warriors now start with the right +5 Strength over Humans (it was +2), with the same fix for the High Order and the Skyborne. Roots from procs (Frostbite, Entrapment, Improved Wing Clip Improved Wing Clip, Counterattack Counterattack and Improved Hamstring Improved Hamstring) now get diminishing returns. The gold totals, the base-stat values and the diminishing-returns rule are all worked out server-side or in the trainer tables, so the client can't confirm those numbers.

Paladin: the big one

This is where most of the video's time goes, and the client backs nearly all of it. The reshuffle touches every tree. See the full list on the Paladin changes page, or build it yourself in the Paladin talent calculator.

Holy

  • Righteous Fury Righteous Fury is now trainable at level 10 (Classic Era: 16) and "Increases all threat generated by 33%" plus 90% more from your Holy attacks. Esfand reads it as "available to train at level 10. It was 16", and the client matches. The notes tie this to dropping Blessing of Salvation; the client has no Salvation data, so we can't check that part.
  • Holy Power Holy Power no longer adds crit chance. It now raises the critical strike healing bonus of your Holy spells, up to 50% at 5 ranks (Classic Era: +5% crit chance). Bigger holy-light crits, but fewer crits overall.
  • Oath of Light Oath of Light (new, Holy tier 4, level 25): swear to protect one ally for 5 minutes, boosting your Holy Light, Flash of Light and Holy Shock healing on them. 40 yd range, 8% base mana, no cooldown. The amounts show as ? in the client, so we can't read them yet.
  • Boundless Light Boundless Light (new, Holy tier 5, level 30): +15%/30% Holy Shock crit chance on allies who do NOT have your Oath of Light. 2 ranks.
  • Holy Shock Holy Shock is now a Holy tier 5 talent (level 30) on a 10-second cooldown (Classic Era: 30). Esfand spends a while on the Holy Shock crit into Infusion of Light Infusion of Light loop.
  • Divine Precision Divine Precision (new, Holy tier 4): 2 ranks for up to 8% hit with Holy spells and 20% off Silence duration.
  • Illumination Illumination moved up to Holy tier 3, and Divine Favor Divine Favor sits in Holy tier 3 now too. Holy Conduit Holy Conduit (new, Holy tier 3) cuts the mana of Consecration, Holy Wrath, Exorcism and Hammer of Wrath by 20%/40%.

Protection

  • Divine Intellect Divine Intellect moved to Protection tier 1 (it was the Holy tree's tier 1 in Classic Era).
  • Sacred Duty Sacred Duty (new, Protection tier 2): 2 ranks, cuts the cooldown of Divine Shield, Divine Protection and Templar's Bulwark by up to 60 sec and Forbearance by up to 10 sec. No stamina bonus, exactly as the notes said.
  • Improved Righteous Fury Improved Righteous Fury now reduces damage taken by up to 9% (3 ranks) while Righteous Fury is up (Classic Era: +50% Righteous Fury threat).
  • Toughness Toughness moved to Protection tier 3 and Anticipation Anticipation to tier 4.
  • Stoicism Stoicism (new, Protection tier 5): 2 ranks, 10%/20% off Stun and Charm duration. Pulled from Burning Crusade, as Esfand notes.
  • Holy Shield Holy Shield moved to Protection tier 5 (Classic Era: tier 7) and is learned earlier (rank 3 at level 50 now, not 60); 75 Holy damage per block.
  • Iron Creed Iron Creed (new, Protection tier 6, 3 ranks): +10/20/30% Holy Strike threat and, while Righteous Fury is up, Holy Strike cuts your damage taken by 2/4/6% for 6 sec. It sits where Classic Era's One-Handed Weapon Specialization was, which is the talent the notes removed.
  • Shieldsworn Shieldsworn (new, Protection tier 7, level 40): Holy Strike's cooldown drops 4 sec and it now strikes with your shield, triggering Holy Shield and Shield Specialization for free and letting you block spells for 6 sec. The new tank capstone.

Retribution

  • Conviction Conviction moved to Retribution tier 2 and now gives crit to "all spells and attacks" (Classic Era: melee only), up to 6% at 3 ranks.
  • Unyielding Faith Unyielding Faith moved from Holy to Retribution tier 3.
  • Two-Handed Weapon Specialization Two-Handed Weapon Specialization now adds 6% Physical AND Holy damage and drops your threat by 20% with a two-hander (Classic Era: 6% damage only).
  • Vengeance Vengeance now "Stacks up to 5 times" (1/2/3% per rank) off non-periodic crits; Esfand reads that it "goes to five". Its prerequisite is now Seal of Command Seal of Command.
  • Champion of the Light Champion of the Light (new, Retribution tier 6, 5 ranks): up to 60% of your Intellect as spell damage and up to 1.0 sec off Hammer of Wrath's cast.
  • Turn Evil Turn Evil (new, Retribution tier 5): speeds up Turn Undead, cuts its cooldown and lets it hit Demons.
  • Unsealed Wrath Unsealed Wrath (new, Retribution tier 7, level 40): "Your melee attacks store a copy of your active Seal for 15 sec, stacking up to 3 times. Landing an attack with a different Seal consumes all stacks, giving the stored Seal its normal chance to activate once per stack." The seal-twisting capstone that replaces Twist of Light.
  • Vindication Vindication now reduces the target's attack power by up to 6 for 30 sec; the notes say it no longer gives the paladin attack power (Classic Era lowered the target's Strength and Agility).

Druid

  • Lacerate Lacerate is now a Feral Combat talent, "not learned by all druids".
  • Ferocious Bite Ferocious Bite has a new rank 1 at level 24, and every existing rank moved up one level.
  • Bloom Bloom (new, Restoration) replaces Gift of the Earth Mother. Esfand reads that a Rejuvenation or Regrowth expiring on its own heals for 100% of your Spirit, or 50% if dispelled. Those amounts aren't in the client yet, so we can't confirm them.
  • Poised Poised (new passive, level 32): out of combat at full energy you gain Poised, cutting the energy cost of your next ability by 10. Rogues get their own Poised Poised at level 18. The energy maths is server-side, so the exact saving can't be checked.
  • The Feral tree was reshuffled around Shifting Power Shifting Power and Predatory Discipline Predatory Discipline. Genesis Genesis now boosts periodic damage and healing (the notes say 10%, up from 5%); the client doesn't list the percentage.

Full rank-by-rank list on the Druid changes page; test builds in the Feral Combat and Balance simulators.

Hunter

  • Pathfinding Pathfinding moved to Beast Mastery tier 3.
  • Trueshot Aura Trueshot Aura moved up to Marksmanship tier 4 (Classic Era: tier 7); the client's talent lists +20 ranged attack power for party or raid within 45 yds. The captions on the per-rank figures are garbled, so treat Esfand's numbers there as rough.
  • Sniper Shot Sniper Shot (new, Marksmanship tier 7, level 40): a 4-second-cast shot for ranged damage plus 320 that extends your next 3 shots' range by 10 yards.
  • Barrage Barrage now boosts Multi-Shot, Aimed Shot and Volley by up to 15% (Classic Era: Multi-Shot and Volley only).
  • Lacerating Strikes Lacerating Strikes (Survival): a new application always overwrites a weaker one from the same hunter. The damage-per-second numbers are server-side.
  • Traps: the notes say all traps now share one 30-second cooldown instead of split fire and frost cooldowns. That's a server rule the client can't show.

See the Hunter changes page and the Marksmanship simulator.

Mage

  • Frost Blast, the week-long beta experiment, is gone. Esfand is blunt about it being "ability bloat".
  • Ice Lance Ice Lance: its visual now shows a root rather than a stun, and the notes put it on an 8-second cooldown shared with Fire Blast, with the frozen-target bonus back to 300%. The client confirms Ice Lance is a Frost talent; those numbers aren't in our client data yet.
  • Arcane Wrath Arcane Wrath: Improved Fireball is renamed Accelerant and now also shaves up to half a second off Arcane Wrath's cast. Arcane Focus is gone, folded into Precision in the Frost tree.
  • Fire crit was swapped around: Incineration up to 5 points for 10% crit, Critical Mass back down to 3 points for 6%. Piercing Ice was removed and Ice Barrier now adds 15% frost damage for a minute. These are talents we don't have per-rank client numbers for here.

Compare specs in the Arcane, Fire and Frost simulators, or read the Mage changes page.

Priest

  • Holy Binding Holy Binding (reworked): healing another target with Flash Heal gives you back 50% of that healing, and the heal makes no threat, per the notes. The client has the talent; the numbers aren't in our data.
  • Devouring Contagion Devouring Contagion no longer spreads (Shadow).
  • Dark Sacrifice Dark Sacrifice: fixed so an Undead priest's version no longer breaks crowd control.

Where the client and Blizzard differ

  • Voice of Truth Voice of Truth: Esfand reads "Voice of truth removed" from the Holy tree. The client still has Voice of Truth, now as a level-20 trainer ability that grants immunity to Silence and Interrupt for 6 sec on a 3-minute cooldown. So it left the talent tree and became a baseline spell, rather than vanishing.
  • Improved Seal of Fury Improved Seal of Fury: the notes remove the talent, but the client keeps Improved Seal of Fury as a passive that restores mana when Seal of Fury's absorb shield is fully used up. The effect survived without the talent slot.
  • Divine Favor Divine Favor: Esfand says it moved "to row three. It was row four". The client lines it up against Classic Era, where it sat in Holy tier 5. Either way it's in Holy tier 3 now.
