Kargoz's five 'game-changing' Forever talents, checked against the client

· ForeverDB
Kargoz's 'top five talents' video picks one each from Druid, Hunter, Paladin, Priest and Warlock. We read all five against the Forever beta client: the descriptions mostly hold, but Holy Shock's range is 20 yards (not 40) and Litany of Light gives back 10% at most (not 20%). Four of the five are inside the level 30 beta cap; the Paladin one, Light's Vigil, unlocks at 40.
This is a community video by Kargoz, not a Blizzard post, so everything in it is the creator's own claim or finding, not Blizzard's word. We checked each talent against the Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70450); the names and numbers below are the client's own. Beta data can still change before launch.
Kargoz scanned every class and picked five talents as the most game-changing in WoW Forever: one each for Druid, Hunter, Paladin, Priest and Warlock. We read each one against the client's talent and spell data. Most of the descriptions hold up, two of the numbers do not, and four of the talents it covers (Light's Vigil, Sniper Shot, Holy Power and Prayer of Mending) sit above the beta's level 30 cap, so you can't try them in beta yet.

The short version
- Gift of the Earthmother Gift of the Earthmother (Restoration Druid, level 20): the client confirms it takes 0.5 sec off the global cooldown of Rejuvenation, Swiftmend and Wild Growth. The '50% more casts' and '60 rejuvenations a minute' figures are the creator's own maths.
- Lone Wolf Lone Wolf (Marksmanship Hunter, level 20): the client reads exactly as the video does, '20% increased damage with all attacks while you do not have an active pet'. 'All attacks' is why a pet-free melee Survival Hunter benefits too.
- Light's Vigil Light's Vigil (Holy Paladin, level 40, above the cap): confirmed. The next Holy Shock on the target triggers no cooldown and either heals their party for 315 to 333 or hits an enemy for 175 to 189 and refunds 75% of the mana.
- Litany of Light Litany of Light (Holy Priest, level 30): a real talent, but the client's top rank gives back 10% of the base cost, not the 20% the video shows.
- Demonic Brand Demonic Brand (Demonology Warlock, level 25): the client backs the pet build. At top rank Searing Pain generates 50% less threat and the brand covers the pet's next 6 attacks.
- Two of the video's numbers don't match the client: Holy Shock's range and Litany of Light. The full list of differences is below.
Claim by claim
| Talent | Kargoz says | The client says | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gift of the Earthmother Gift of the Earthmother | Resto Druid talent; 0.5 sec off the global cooldown, about 50% more casts | Restoration tier 3, level 20; cuts the global cooldown of Rejuvenation, Swiftmend and Wild Growth by 0.5 sec | Confirmed (the % is his maths) |
| Lone Wolf Lone Wolf | 20% more damage with no pet; works for melee too | Marksmanship tier 3, level 20; '20% increased damage with all attacks while you do not have an active pet' | Confirmed |
| Sniper Shot Sniper Shot | 45 yard shot; next shots gain +10 yards | Marksmanship tier 7, level 40 (above cap); 45 yd range, 4 sec cast, next 3 Shots +10 yd | Confirmed; above the cap |
| Light's Vigil Light's Vigil | Holy capstone; next Holy Shock resets and heals the party, or hits an enemy and refunds mana | Holy tier 7, level 40 (above cap); next Holy Shock triggers no cooldown, heals party 315-333 or enemy 175-189 and refunds 75% mana | Confirmed; above the cap |
| Holy Shock Holy Shock range | 'up to 40 yard range' | 20 yard range (cooldown 10 sec, down from 30 in Classic) | Wrong number (cooldown right) |
| Divine Precision Divine Precision | 18% hit with Holy; 'hit capped' | Holy tier 5, level 30; +18% Holy hit at rank 3 of 3 | Number confirmed; 'hit cap' not checkable |
| Holy Power Holy Power | +15% Holy Shock crit baseline | Holy tier 6, level 35 (above cap); +15% Holy Shock and Holy Strike crit at rank 5 | Confirmed; above the cap |
| Litany of Light Litany of Light | 20% of the base cost back | 5% / 10% over two ranks; 10% at most | Wrong number |
| Demonic Brand Demonic Brand | Pet becomes the damage dealer; Searing Pain to 1-to-1 threat; next 6 attacks | Demonology tier 4, level 25; rank 3 = 50% less Searing Pain threat, brands 10 sec, pet's next 6 attacks, shadow pets add threat | Confirmed (pet %s are his level 60 maths) |
Verdicts against the Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70450). 'Above the cap' means the talent unlocks past the beta's level 30 limit.
Gift of the Earthmother and Nature's Splendor (Druid)
Number five is Gift of the Earthmother (the client spells it Gift of the Earthmother, one word, where the captions say 'Earth Mother'). It sits in the Restoration tree at tier 3, so a Resto Druid reaches it at level 20, inside the beta cap. The client's text is short: it 'Reduces the global cooldown by 0.5 seconds on your Rejuvenation, Swiftmend, and Wild Growth spells.' That matches the video's point about a faster global on your heal-over-time spells.
without talent 1.5 second global cooldown with talent 1 second global cooldown Kargoz, Blizzard Went CRAZY With These 5 Talents in WoW Forever (4:22)
The global cooldown itself isn't in the client, so we can't confirm the 1.5 second baseline or the '60 rejuvenations a minute' and '33% more throughput' figures. Those are the creator's own maths. What the client does confirm is the half-second cut and which three spells it hits.
The video pairs it with Nature's Splendor Nature's Splendor for a longer Rejuvenation, and the client confirms that talent word for word: it 'Increases the duration of your Moonfire and Rejuvenation spells by 3 sec, your Regrowth spell by 6 sec, and your Insect Swarm spell by 2 sec.' One thing the video doesn't say: Nature's Splendor is in the Balance tree (tier 3, level 20), not Restoration, so a Resto Druid has to spend points in Balance to pick it up. Rejuvenation Rejuvenation lasts 12 sec in the client, so the extra 3 sec gives the 15-second Rejuvenation the video describes. See the Druid talent calculator and Druid changes.
Lone Wolf and Sniper Shot (Hunter)
Number four is Lone Wolf Lone Wolf, in the Marksmanship tree at tier 3 (level 20). The client reads exactly as the video does:
You deal 20% increased damage with all attacks while you do not have an active pet. Kargoz, Blizzard Went CRAZY With These 5 Talents in WoW Forever (5:13)
Because the tooltip says 'all attacks', not 'ranged attacks', it buffs a pet-free melee Survival Hunter as well, which is the flexibility the video points at. The wording also covers the 'works if your pet dies' point: the bonus applies 'while you do not have an active pet', and a dead pet is not an active pet. The exact moment it switches on is a behaviour we'd want to see in game.
The video also talks up Sniper Shot Sniper Shot, a separate talent higher up Marksmanship at tier 7, so you learn it at level 40, above the beta cap. The client backs the description: 45 yard range, a 4 second cast, and it 'increases the range of your next 3 Shots by 10 yards for 10 sec'. Multi-Shot Multi-Shot has a 35 yard range in the client, so the +10 takes it to 45, as the video says. The tooltip's damage is 'ranged damage plus 160'. More on the Hunter talent calculator.
Light's Vigil and Holy Shock (Paladin)
Light's Vigil Light's Vigil is the capstone of the Holy tree at tier 7, level 40, so it's above the beta's level 30 cap for now. The client confirms what it does: you apply it to a target for 30 sec, and the next Holy Shock on them 'triggers no cooldown' (the 'reset' the video talks about) and either hits an enemy for 175 to 189 Holy damage and refunds 75% of the mana, or heals their party for 315 to 333. It costs 730 mana, which fits the video calling it expensive, and only one Light's Vigil can be active per party.
The video reads Holy Shock's range as 40 yards and asks viewers to check it:
Also, up to 40 yard range on Holy Shock. I need somebody to verify this down below. Kargoz, Blizzard Went CRAZY With These 5 Talents in WoW Forever (9:01)
The client says 20 yards, not 40. Holy Shock Holy Shock in the Forever client has a 20 yard range, a 160 mana cost and a 10 second cooldown (down from 30 in Classic, which the video gets right). So the cooldown claim holds, the range claim does not. Holy Shock also moved to Holy tier 5 (level 30), within the cap.
The supporting talents check out, with a caveat on level. Divine Precision Divine Precision 'Improves your chance to hit with Holy spells by 18%' at its third rank, and sits at Holy tier 5 (level 30). Holy Power Holy Power's top rank 'Increases the critical strike chance of your Holy Shock and Holy Strike spells by 15%, and all other spells by 5%', but it's at tier 6, level 35, above the cap. Whether 18% hit amounts to a full 'hit cap' is a mechanic we can't read from the client.
On the video's 'there is no holy resistance in this game' line: the client does carry a 'Holy Resistance' label in its interface text. Whether anything in the world actually resists Holy damage is a behaviour we can't check from the client. See Paladin changes.
Litany of Light (Priest)
This is the second number that's off, after Holy Shock's range. The video reads Litany of Light as 20% of a heal's base cost back:
When you cast a healing spell, gain mana equal to 20% of the base cost of the spell if your previous heal was a different spell. Kargoz, Blizzard Went CRAZY With These 5 Talents in WoW Forever (11:52)
Litany of Light Litany of Light in the client has two ranks, 5% and 10%. The most you get back is 10%, not 20%. The rest of the description is right: it's a new Holy talent at tier 5 (level 30), in the slot Classic Era's Improved Prayer of Healing used, and it only pays out 'if your previous heal was a different spell', which is the back-and-forth play the video describes. The mana-per-minute and '148.5 MP5' figures are the creator's sim; mana regen isn't in the client, so we can't check those.
The video also leans on Prayer of Mending Prayer of Mending. The client confirms it jumps 'up to 5 times' and procs when the target takes damage or 'receive[s] non-periodic healing', so direct heals set it off, as the video says. It's a Holy talent at tier 7, level 40, above the cap. The '200% of your healing' figure is theorycraft; the tooltip only says it heals for 172 and 'scales with bonus healing', with no coefficient we can read. See the Priest talent calculator.
Demonic Brand (Warlock)
Kargoz's number one is Demonic Brand Demonic Brand, a new Demonology talent at tier 4, level 25, so it's inside the beta cap. The client backs the core idea that it turns your pet into the main damage dealer.
Searing pain now gets reduced down to just one one to one threat. Kargoz, Blizzard Went CRAZY With These 5 Talents in WoW Forever (16:12)
At its third rank the client says Demonic Brand makes your Searing Pain Searing Pain 'generate 50% less threat' and 'brands the target for 10 sec', and 'your pet's next 6 attacks against the target deal 20 to 23 (scales with Fire spell power and Shadow spell power) Fire or Shadow damage based on the pet. If Shadow damage is dealt, it has high threat.' That lines up with the video: Searing Pain's threat roughly halves (its normal high threat down to about 1 to 1), the brand covers the next six attacks at max rank, and shadow-damage pets like the Voidwalker and Succubus add threat while the Imp, which deals Fire, does not. The lower ranks give 2 and 4 attacks (17% and 33% less threat).
The pet damage figures the video shows (Imp 148%, Voidwalker 71%, Succubus 65%, Felhunter 71%) are its own level 60 theorycraft off the tooltip. The client's numbers are 20 to 23 'at level 30', and it says 'they grow with your level', so we can't confirm the level 60 scaling. Try the build on the Warlock talent calculator or the Demonology Warlock simulator.
Where the client and Kargoz differ
- Holy Shock range. The video reads 'up to 40 yard range' and asks for a check; the client's Holy Shock Holy Shock has a 20 yard range.
- Litany of Light. The video shows 20% of the base cost back; the client's Litany of Light has two ranks, 5% and 10%, so 10% is the most you get.
- Holy Resistance. The video says there's none in the game; the client does carry a 'Holy Resistance' label in its interface text, though whether anything actually resists Holy is a behaviour we can't test.
