Blizzard: Ghost Wolf's bright new look is temporary while it fixes visibility

Shaman's Ghost Wolf looks much brighter on the beta. Blizzard's development notes say it was made more visible, and designer Aidan Moon says the bright look is a stop-gap: a hotfix will tone it down, and the original look comes back once a wider visibility fix is ready.

Shaman players noticed that Ghost Wolf looks very different on the WoW Forever beta: a much brighter blue than its Classic Era model, which players have taken to calling a flashbang. Blizzard has explained why, and says it won't stay that way.

What Blizzard said

Blizzard's beta development notes, updated by Kaivax on 1 October, list the change under Shaman:

Ghost Wolf should now be more visible while in well-lit areas. Kaivax, Community Manager

On 2 October Senior Game Designer Aidan "Zirene" Moon replied to the feedback on X, as Wowhead reports. In substance, he said the current look is a temporary fix for places where the lighting made the wolf invisible; a hotfix will reduce its brightness, and the original appearance comes back once a broader visibility fix is ready.

Reported by Wowhead. Aidan Moon's words come from his post on X as Wowhead reports it; we can't read X posts directly, so they're given in substance, not quoted. The development notes above are Blizzard's own post.

Why it changed

The old Ghost Wolf could all but vanish in low light. A community bug report, Shaman Ghost Wolf barely visible in certain lighting, was filed on 26 September, and Icy Veins names Duskwood as one of the places it disappeared. The brighter wolf is the stop-gap while Blizzard works on the proper fix.

What it means for Shaman players

  • Only the look changes: Ghost Wolf works the same, and nothing in the beta client's files changes its effect.
  • Expect a hotfix that makes it less bright, then the original model back later. Blizzard gave no dates for either.
  • More on the class: our Shaman page.
