yumytv's beginner healing guide checks out on client setup and abilities, but its mana and threat maths can't be checked yet

· ForeverDB
yumytv's beginner healing guide walks through client setup, levelling as a healer, stats and dungeon threat. The interface options and abilities named all check out in the Forever client: Seal of Command is a level 20 Retribution talent, Fade a level 8 Priest ability. Its big mechanics claims (the 5-second rule, healing threat, cast pushback, shields and tank rage) are server maths the client doesn't hold, so we can't check them yet.
This is a community guide by yumytv, not a Blizzard video. Everything below is yumytv's own advice and findings. We checked the interface options and abilities it names against the WoW Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70532). Mana regeneration, threat, rage and spell pushback are worked out by the server and aren't in the client, so we can't check those yet. Beta data can change before launch on 4 November 2026.
yumytv has put out a beginner's guide to healing in WoW Forever, covering interface setup, levelling, stats, mana management and dungeon threat. It's a role overview rather than a guide to one class. yumytv reckons the levelling journey is "around 200 hours" on your first character. Most of the video is advice, but yumytv names a few client options and abilities we can pin down, and a lot of mechanics the client simply doesn't hold.

The short version
- yumytv's setup steps all use options the client has: raid-style Party Frames in Edit Mode, the "Mouseover Cast" option, "Camera Following Style", and "Class Colors".
- The abilities yumytv names check out. Seal of Command Seal of Command is a Retribution Paladin talent at level 20, and Fade Fade is a Priest threat drop from level 8 that Forever makes stronger than Classic Era.
- Its big mechanics claims (the "5-second rule", healing threat on every mob, cast pushback when you're hit, and shields no longer pausing a tank's rage) are all server maths. The client doesn't hold them, so we can't check them yet.
- On stats, yumytv puts healing power first. The client does carry spell power coefficients on heals, and low ranks get their full value, but the per-spell penalties yumytv describes are server side.
- yumytv says a full coefficient list "will be posted shortly after the game is released".
Claim by claim
| Claim | yumytv says | The client says | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raid-style party frames | Hit Escape, open Edit Mode, left-click the party frames top-left, tick "raid style party frames" and drag them to the centre. | The client has the "Edit Mode" and "Party Frames" options, with "Buffs and Debuffs" settings to customise them. | Confirmed |
| Mouseover Cast | Search "mouse over" in options and tick the box, so a heal lands on whoever your cursor is over without clicking first. | The client has the "Mouseover Cast" option. | Confirmed |
| Camera and class colours | Set "camera following style" to never, max follow distance 2.6, and tick "use class colors". | The client has the "Camera Following Style" and "Class Colors" options. The 2.6 distance is a slider value the client text doesn't spell out. | Adds detail |
| Seal of Command | Starting in the Retribution tree gives parry, critical strike and "the powerful seal of command ability". | Seal of Command is a Retribution talent (tier 3, level 20), 1 rank: a chance to deal Holy damage equal to "70% of normal weapon damage", lasts 30 sec, 65 Mana; judging it hits for 48 Holy, 93 to 101 against a stunned target. | Adds detail |
| Fade | A priest can use the fade ability to drop to the bottom of the aggro list. | Fade is a trainer ability from level 8: instant, 30 sec cooldown, lasts 10 sec, "discouraging enemies from attacking you". Forever makes all six ranks stronger than Classic Era (rank 6: -4100 instead of -820). The exact threat it sheds is server side. | Adds detail |
| Downranking heals | Downranking was mainly a Classic thing with strong gear; new formulas might make it relevant, but low ranks are usually bad because of the "5-second rule". | The Forever client gives low-rank spells their full spell power coefficient (no Classic cut): Priest Heal rank 1 scales at 0.857 instead of 0.729. Whether the server adds a downranking penalty can't be checked yet. | Adds detail |
| Healing power is the top stat | Healing power directly buffs your spells and is the most important stat; heal-over-time, multi-target and very short-cast spells gain less per point. | Heals carry spell power coefficients in the client. The per-spell penalties are server maths; yumytv says a full list will be posted after launch. | Can't check yet |
| Intellect | Intellect buffs your maximum mana pool and a little spell crit, but unlike other versions it does not buff how much your heals do. | How intellect becomes mana and crit is a server formula, not in the client. | Can't check yet |
| The 5-second rule | Your main mana regen won't start until 5 seconds after you last spent mana, and it pauses only when mana is actually spent. | Mana regeneration is a server formula. The client has a "Mana Regen" readout but not the 5-second timing. | Can't check yet |
| Healing threat | Healing a party member in combat gives you threat on every mob based on the amount healed, so untouched mobs charge the healer. | Threat is a server calculation, not in the client. | Can't check yet |
| Shields and tank rage | In Classic, shielding a tank paused their rage; "this has been changed in WoW Forever is my understanding", so shields are fine now. | Rage generation is a server formula, not in the client. yumytv flags this as their own understanding. | Can't check yet |
| Cast pushback | Taking damage while casting pushes the cast back for every hit, until a heal can become impossible. | Pushback is server side, not in the client. | Can't check yet |
Checked against the WoW Forever beta client, build 1.60.1.70532.
Setting up the client for healing
Every setup step yumytv shows uses options the client already has: "Edit Mode" and "Party Frames" (with "Buffs and Debuffs" settings) for the raid-style frames and their layout, "Mouseover Cast" so a heal lands on whoever your cursor is over, and "Camera Following Style" and "Class Colors". The only number the client text doesn't spell out is the 2.6 follow distance, a slider value.
The abilities yumytv names
Paladin
yumytv points new Paladins at the Retribution tree for "the powerful seal of command ability". The client confirms Seal of Command Seal of Command as a Retribution talent at tier 3, which opens at level 20, within the beta's level 30 cap. It is one rank: a chance to deal Holy damage equal to 70% of normal weapon damage for 30 sec, costing 65 Mana, and judging it instantly deals 48 Holy damage (93 to 101 if the target is stunned). We haven't checked the Paladin tools yumytv mentions for shedding attackers, the "blessing and protection or bubble". See the Paladin page, Paladin changes in the client, the talent calculator and the Retribution Paladin simulator.
Priest
For dropping threat, yumytv names the priest's fade ability. The client confirms Fade Fade: learned from the trainer at level 8, instant, a 30 sec cooldown, lasting 10 sec, "discouraging enemies from attacking you". Forever makes all six ranks stronger than Classic Era. The exact amount of threat it sheds is a server number we can't check. yumytv's "large mana efficient heal" is the priest's Heal: in Forever it heals a little less than Classic Era but its rank 1 scales higher with your spell power (0.857 instead of 0.729), which fits yumytv's point that low ranks can be worth casting. We haven't checked the night elf "shadow meld" yumytv also names. See Priest changes and the Priest talent calculator.
Mage
yumytv's buddy picks are a mage's intellect buff on your way out of town and a frost mage in the group to slow mobs off you. Those are Mage tools rather than healer abilities, so there's nothing here to check; see the Mage and Mage changes pages.
The mechanics the client can't settle
Most of yumytv's core advice rests on server maths that the client doesn't hold. The "5-second rule" for when mana regen restarts, the idea that "healing threat is a real thing" and spreads to every mob, the cast pushback when you're hit, and the claim that shields no longer pause a tank's rage are all worked out by the server. The client has a "Mana Regen" readout and a "Stop Casting" binding (for the start-and-stop-casting trick yumytv describes), but not the formulas behind them. We can't confirm any of these numbers until players test them in game. yumytv is cautious here too, saying the shield-and-rage change "is my understanding" and that the stat picture "is currently changing in the WoW Forever beta".
What could be tested in the beta
The beta capped levels at 30. Fade (level 8) and Seal of Command (level 20) were within reach, so a levelling healer could try the ability advice, but max-level gearing, downranking with strong gear, and raids were above the cap. (Update, 27 October: the beta closed on 23 October, so all of this can next be tried when the game launches on 4 November.)
