VezyRPG goes fishing in the WoW Forever beta: what the client can and can't confirm

· ForeverDB
Community creator VezyRPG spent the end of the beta chasing rare rods, gem-filled fish and the Booty Bay derby. We checked each find against the Forever client. The items, zones and the "no fish here" message are in the game; the server-side finds like Lord Angler and the big iron rod aren't in our data to check.
This is a community video by VezyRPG, not Blizzard. Everything in it is the creator's own finding or claim. We checked each one against the WoW Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70450) and the site's own data. Every number below comes from the client or from the video; nothing is worked out.
VezyRPG's last beta adventure is all about fishing. They hunt a rare fishing rod, farm bloated fish for gems, open 80 fishing trunks, and win the final Booty Bay derby. Plenty of that lives on the server and can't be read from the client, but the parts we can see line up with the game files. Here is each claim against our data.

The short version
- The parts we can see check out. The Lucky Lure is a Quest Item in the client, the Fishing Rack is in the game, and the "There aren't any fish here" line VezyRPG gets in the battleground is the client's own message.
- The server-only finds aren't in our data. Lord Angler, the big iron fishing rod, the Darkspear Islands battleground and the Master Angler derby reward aren't in the client data we hold, so we can't confirm the numbers.
- Freezing Trap, the one ability named, is learned at level 20, so a level 30 beta Hunter has it. In Forever its cooldown is 30 sec, not Classic Era's 15 sec.
- The full claim-by-claim table is below, followed by what our data has and what it lacks.
Claim by claim
| Claim | VezyRPG says | The client says | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lucky Lure | A 1% drop from the Lost One fishermen in Swamp of Sorrows; a quest item, but the turn-in NPC was missing | Lucky Lure is in the client and is a Quest Item; the drop rate and the NPC can't be checked | Item confirmed; the rest can't be checked |
| Riverglades | A brand new zone to explore and fish in | Riverglades is new in Forever | Confirmed |
| Wetlands bar | A new bar in the Wetlands, neutral for the Horde too | Wetlands is in the client; the bar and its neutral status aren't in our data | Can't check yet |
| Fishing Rack | Its buff lets you catch bloated fish that hold gems in different zones | Fishing Rack is in the client; the buff and the gem drops can't be checked | Item confirmed; the rest can't be checked |
| Lord Angler | A rare in Dustwallow Marsh with a big spawn window that drops a new fishing rod | No Lord Angler in our data | Can't check yet |
| Darkspear Islands battleground | A brand new battleground; you can't fish in it | The "There aren't any fish here" message is the client's own; the battleground isn't in our data | Can't check yet |
| Big iron fishing rod | Bought for 125 gold, a +20 rod; the lobster traps that drop it couldn't be clicked | Not in our items data | Can't check yet |
| Mythril Bound trunks | 80 opened, mostly belts, bracers, crafting materials and recipes | The items shown, e.g. Journeyman's Backpack, Mageweave Cloth and the Big Voodoo Mask recipe, are in the client; the trunk's drop table can't be checked | Adds detail |
| Caverns of Time dragon | Players kiting the elite dragon toward Orgrimmar | Caverns of Time is in the client; the event can't be checked | Can't check yet |
| Booty Bay fishing derby | Won first, took the Master Angler title and the bucket transmog | Booty Bay is in the client; the derby reward, title and transmog aren't in our data | Can't check yet |
| Freezing Trap | Would have caught a fleeing enemy in the battleground | Freezing Trap is learned at level 20; its cooldown is 30 sec, not Classic's 15 sec | Adds detail |
| 12 trunks from one pool | Six trunks from one cast, up to 12 from a single pool | The trunk and pool behaviour can't be checked | Can't check yet |
| Locked ironbound trunks | Need lockpicking higher than rogues can reach in the beta | Can't be checked from the client | Can't check yet |
Claims from the video against the WoW Forever beta client and our site data.
Fishing and the fishing items
VezyRPG's hunt turns on a few items. The Lucky Lure is in the client, and it is a Quest Item there, which fits the video showing it "glowing up as a quest item". Where it comes from, how often it drops and which NPC takes it all live on the server, so the 1% figure VezyRPG quotes from Wowhead and the missing turn-in NPC are things we can't check from the files.
The Fishing Rack is also in the client. VezyRPG uses its buff to catch bloated fish and big mouth clams that hold gems and pearls to sell. The item exists, but the buff's effect and the gem drops are worked out by the server, so we can't confirm them yet. The same goes for the big iron fishing rod VezyRPG buys for 125 gold: it isn't in our items data, so the +20 and the lobster-trap source stay unconfirmed.
The 80 Mythril Bound trunks are opened for fun, and the gear and materials shown are real client items: the Journeyman's Backpack, Mageweave Cloth, the Big Voodoo Mask recipe, Greater Mana Potion and Superior Healing Potion all exist. The trunk's own loot table isn't in the client, so which items it can roll, and the "up to 12 trunks from one pool", are player findings we can't test.
Zones and places
The Riverglades really is new in Forever, so VezyRPG is right that friends who skipped it missed a fresh zone. The Wetlands is an existing zone; the new bar there, and the claim that it is neutral for the Horde, aren't in our data. The Caverns of Time is in the client, but the elite dragon being kited toward Orgrimmar is a player event, not something the files show. The fishing derby runs out of Booty Bay, which is in the client; the Master Angler title and the bucket transmog reward aren't.
When VezyRPG tries to fish in the Darkspear Islands battleground, the game answers "There aren't any fish here". That exact line is the client's own message, so the game really does block fishing in the water there. The battleground itself isn't in our data, so its layout and rules we can't confirm.
Freezing Trap in the beta
The one class ability the video names is Freezing Trap. After a battleground scrap VezyRPG says "if I put down a freezing trap instead, that might have hit this guy". The client confirms Freezing Trap is a Hunter trap learned from the trainer at level 20, so a level 30 beta Hunter has rank 1. In Forever its cooldown is 30 sec instead of Classic Era's 15 sec, at all three ranks (ranks 2 and 3 come at levels 40 and 60, above the beta cap). More on the Hunter changes page, the Hunter talent calculator and the Survival Hunter simulator.
What we have, and what we don't
- We have: the Lucky Lure and Fishing Rack as items, the trunk gear and materials, the Riverglades and Wetlands zones, the Caverns of Time and Booty Bay, and the client's own "There aren't any fish here" message.
- We don't have: Lord Angler, the big iron fishing rod, the Darkspear Islands battleground, the fishing derby reward, the Master Angler title, the bucket transmog, or the "one ring" fishing artifact and the little dragon pet VezyRPG buys with leftover beta gold before the derby.
- Why players can't test the rest yet: drop rates, buff effects, loot tables and rare spawns are decided by the server, and the beta is capped at level 30 and about to close, so there is no way to confirm the server-only finds from the client alone.
