Platinum WoW's "All the Lore You NEED to Know": every name checked against the Forever client

Warrior and Warlock talent tree paintings from the WoW Forever client

· ForeverDB

Platinum WoW's lore primer runs through Warcraft's three wars and each race's opening story. We checked the places, factions and Forever-specific claims against the beta client's own data: the lore holds up and the client carries the names they use. Forever's one real change is where the whole story sits in the timeline.

This video is by community creator Platinum WoW, not Blizzard. Everything in it is their telling of Warcraft's lore. We checked the names, places and the Forever-specific claims against the Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70790) and our own lore pages; any number here is the client's.

Platinum WoW has put out a lore primer for anyone starting WoW Forever. It runs through Warcraft's three wars and then each playable race's opening story: where you begin, who your enemies are and how you got there. It's a community video, so all of it is their account of the lore rather than anything Blizzard wrote for Forever. We went through the names and the Forever-specific claims against the beta client. The lore holds up, the client carries the places and factions they name, and Forever's one real change is where in the timeline it all sits.

The short version

  • Platinum WoW walks through the First, Second and Third Wars, then each race's starting zone and the threats around it. It's their telling of the lore, not Blizzard's.
  • Every place and capital they name is in the Forever client: Azeroth, the Dark Portal, the Barrens, Durotar, Mulgore, Teldrassil, the Undercity and Khaz Modan all check out.
  • Forever's twist is the setting. Our timeline page, from Blizzard's posts, puts the story in Azeroth's Year 1, in a continuity of its own.
  • The new Forever stories they tease, the Skyborne elves and undead paladins, are both in the client.
  • A few lore words they use (bloodthirsty, corruption, devastated, revenge, aftermath) are also ability names in the client. We list those at the end with the beta's numbers, since this is a database site.

Forever's twist: Year 1

The lore itself is standard Warcraft, told well. The one Forever-specific point is where the story sits, and Platinum WoW gets it right:

the entirety of WoW Forever story will take place in the first in universe year of World of Warcraft in a continuity separate from the main timeline Platinum WoW, WoW Forever: All the Lore You NEED to Know (14:50)

That matches our timeline page, which reads Blizzard's posts the same way: Forever sits at the start of original World of Warcraft, in Azeroth's Year 1, in a time bubble of its own. Because it's a separate continuity, Blizzard can change things without breaking the main story, which is why the client already has the Skyborne and Forsaken paladins.

new stories being introduced in forever, like the skyborn elves or undead paladins Platinum WoW, WoW Forever: All the Lore You NEED to Know (15:40)

Both check out. The client has the Skyborne (shen'dorei) as a playable race, split between the Alliance's High Order and the Horde's Windshapers, and it has Forsaken paladins of the Light. We have lore pages for the Skyborne and the Forsaken.

Lore words that are also abilities in the client

This is a lore video, so Platinum WoW doesn't talk about class abilities. But several of the words they use for the story are also ability names in the Forever client, and since this is a database site, here's what each one is in game. The creator makes no claim about these; the numbers below are the client's, all within the beta's level 60 cap.

  • Bloodthirst (Fury talent, level 40). The video calls the corrupted orcs "bloodthirsty". In Forever Bloodthirst's tooltip reads "increasing your movement speed by 10% for 10 sec" on top of its damage; Classic's version instead restored health on your next few melee hits.
  • Corruption (Warlock, from the trainer at level 4). They say the orcs were "corrupted" by demon blood. The spell's top rank (rank 7, level 60) does 438 Shadow damage over 18 sec in Forever, against 822 over 18 sec in Classic, and scales at 0.2 of your spell power instead of 0.167.
  • Revenge (Warrior, from the trainer at level 14). The Defias want "revenge". Revenge is used in Defensive Stance after a block, dodge or parry, and it hits harder in Forever: rank 6 for 138 to 168 instead of Classic's 81 to 99.
  • Aftermath (Warlock Destruction talent, level 15). They talk about "the aftermath" of Warcraft III. Aftermath's top rank now adds up to 50% initial damage to Immolate and gives Conflagrate up to a 100% chance to Daze; Classic's version only gave Destruction spells a 10% chance to daze.
  • Devastate Devastate is a Season of Discovery Warrior spell left in the Forever files. Nothing in the client (no trainer, quest or talent) teaches it, so it echoes the video's "devastated" only by name.

What we have, and what we don't

  • The client carries every place, area and faction name the video uses, and we have full lore pages for each race and class built from the client's own texts.
  • What files can't settle is the story itself: Thrall, Grom Hellscream, Arthas, Sylvanas, Ragnaros, the missing king and the Defias are Warcraft's established lore, not data the client spells out, so we can't confirm those beats from the client alone.
  • Forever's own changes are the new part, and they are in the client: the Skyborne, Forsaken paladins, and new zones such as Mount Hyjal and the Riverglades.
  • Players can't see where the story goes yet. The beta's level cap is 60 and Forever is set in Year 1, so most of the lore past that first year is still ahead of us.
