MrGM's guide to the legacy system in WoW Forever

The Hunter Survival talent tree painting from the WoW Forever client

· ForeverDB

MrGM walks through WoW Forever's legacy system: challenges that award points, a talent-style tree the points fill, and a reward track. The client has the system's interface text, several of the items, the Durotar faction, the point values (65 points, plus 16 granted for beta testing), the tree's perks and 16-point cap, all four rewards and the Alliance's Azeroth Commerce Authority.

This is a community video by MrGM, not a Blizzard post, so what it says is the creator's finding. We checked the names, items and factions it uses against the WoW Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70450) and the site's own data. Every number below is from MrGM's narration or from the client, and beta data can change before launch.

MrGM calls the legacy system Forever's achievement system. Challenges award points, and the points fill a tree and unlock rewards along a track. The Forever beta client has the system's interface text, the point values, the perks and several of the items and factions MrGM names. The split of points by category and the perk numbers are MrGM's own.

The short version

  • MrGM calls the legacy system WoW Forever's achievement system. The client has its interface text: "Legacy Challenges", "Legacy Tree", "Legacy Rewards" and "Legacy Points".
  • Points are account-wide and each character fills its own tree. MrGM counts 65 points to earn in beta across classes, trade skills, PvP, adventure, dungeons and raids, the same total the client has (it also grants 16 points for beta testing).
  • There are three trees (professions, adventure and resourcefulness). MrGM says you can spend up to 16 points, mixing trees, and reset at a class trainer for 10 gold with a rising cost.
  • Rewards come at 15, 25, 40 and 55 points: a toy, the Spectral Bear Cub pet, the Spectral Bear Tabard and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount. All four are in the client.
  • With the beta capped at level 30, many of the challenges can't be earned yet.

The legacy system

MrGM says the legacy system is how WoW Forever handles achievements, which were never in Classic Era or Vanilla and arrived later with Wrath of the Lich King. Completing a legacy challenge awards points, the points are account-wide, and each character spends them on its own tree. The client backs up the shape of this: it has interface text for "Legacy Challenges", a "Legacy Tree", "Legacy Rewards" and "Legacy Points".

MrGM counts 65 points in beta, the same total the client has (it also grants 16 for beta testing). This is MrGM's split by category:

  • Classes: 27 points, a point for reaching level 25, 45 and 60 on each class.
  • Trade skills: 18 points, for the non-gathering primary professions reaching skill 150, 225 and 300.
  • PvP: 12 points, for ranks, exalted with the battleground reputations, and the Field of Honor season journey quests.
  • Adventure: 2 points, for exploring the whole world map on one character and completing the Lord Valthalak (dungeon set two) quest line.
  • Dungeons: 3 points, for the final bosses of the 15 to 25, 26 to 45 and 46 to 60 dungeons.
  • Raids: 3 points, for Onyxia, the 13 bosses of Hyjal Summit and the 8 bosses of the Barrow Deeps.

The legacy tree

There are three trees (professions, adventure and resourcefulness), and MrGM says you can mix them and spend up to 16 points however many you have earned; the client has the same 16-point cap. A reset costs 10 gold at a class trainer and rises each time. MrGM reads the beta data as resetting that rising cost every week, which our data doesn't show. Some of the perks MrGM highlights, with MrGM's numbers:

  • Bartering reduces vendor prices by 10%.
  • Frequent flyer gives 50% off flight paths and makes the flight path mount fly 20% faster.
  • Talented grants talent points from level 5 instead of 10, still capped at 51 points in total, so no extra points at 60.
  • Reagent economy removes reagents your class abilities buy from vendors (MrGM points to Sacred Candle and vanishing powder).
  • Diplomat raises reputation gains by 10%; MrGM calls it the former Human racial.

The rewards

  • 15 points: a replica Iron Forge air rifle toy.
  • 25 points: the Spectral Bear Cub pet, which MrGM says is account-wide.
  • 40 points: the Spectral Bear Tabard.
  • 55 points: the Reins of the Spectral Bear, an epic (100% speed) mount; MrGM says training it costs 1,000 gold per character.

All four rewards are items in the client.

The future

MrGM passes on Blizzard's plans: hardcore is a mode that is coming but not at launch, and when it arrives challenges done in the normal rule set will not carry into hardcore, while challenges earned in hardcore will grant in the other rule set. MrGM says the plan is 12 hardcore-only challenges, with new challenges, perks and rewards added in future content. These are future plans, not in the client.

Two names overlap with Hunter spells that have nothing to do with the account-wide legacy system. The Resourcefulness legacy tree shares its name with a Hunter Survival talent, Resourcefulness (tier 5, learned at level 30), and MrGM's "deep dive" is just a phrase, not Dive, the level 30 Beast Training spell that teaches a pet the Dive ability.

What the beta lets you test

In the client we found the system's interface text, the point values, the perks and cap, the Durotar Supply and Logistics and Azeroth Commerce Authority factions, and the Sacred Candle, Elemental Essence, Spectral Bear Cub and Spectral Bear Tabard items, along with the toy and the mount. The Enixia, Hydrol Summit and Barrow Deeps raids aren't in our raid data yet. With the beta capped at level 30, the level 45 and 60 class challenges, the raid challenges, the two higher dungeon challenges and the full tree aren't reachable yet; the first dungeon challenge, for the 15 to 25 dungeons, is.

You can plan your points in the legacy tree calculator.
