hammerdance's 10 hidden WoW Forever features, checked against the client

Hunter and Druid talent tree paintings from the WoW Forever client

· ForeverDB

Community creator hammerdance walks through ten quality-of-life features in the WoW Forever beta, from situational transmog to mouseover casting and a 40-slot quest log. We checked each one against the beta client (build 1.60.1.70450): most are options the client's own interface names, and a few are numbers or behaviours only a player can show in game. This is hammerdance's finding, not Blizzard's word.

This is a community video by hammerdance, not a Blizzard announcement, so everything here is their finding. We checked each claim against the WoW Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70450) and the site's data. Beta data can change before launch.

hammerdance says they have put over 150 hours into the beta and only found some of these features a couple of days ago. Most of the ten are interface options, and the client's own menus name nearly all of them, so we can confirm they exist. A handful are numbers or behaviours the client text does not spell out, so those stay hammerdance's in-game observation for now.

The short version

  • The client's own options back most of this. It has transmog, a "View Talents" option, an "Equipment Manager", a "Secondary Name" toggle, "Chat Style" (IM against Classic), "Status Text", and "Always Show Buttons" in Edit Mode.
  • Situational transmog: the client lets you change your own look with transmog turned off, which Blizzard's BlizzCon Deep Dive also said. hammerdance shows outfits that swap on their own by weather, time of day and place. That automatic switching is their finding, not something our client text lays out.
  • Mouseover casting is in the client. Hold a modifier key and your spell lands on whoever your cursor is over, no target needed. hammerdance shows it with a druid's Regrowth.
  • A 40-quest log (up from 20) and crafting while you sit at a campfire are a number and a behaviour we cannot confirm from the client yet.
  • Feral combat as a weapon skill that starts at 0 at level 10: the client has a "Weapon Skill" rating, but the 0-to-50 detail is hammerdance's in-game observation.

The interface options

Transmog that changes itself

hammerdance says there is "situational transmog" in the game: at a transmogrifier you can set an outfit to appear on its own in rain, snow, sand or clear weather, at a time of day such as morning or night, while mounted or swimming, or in a place like a battleground. Their example is a hood that appears when it starts raining. The client does have a transmog system, and Blizzard's BlizzCon Deep Dive already said you can keep transmog off for other players yet still change your own character's look. Our interface text names the transmog option but not the per-situation switches, so treat the automatic weather and time swapping as hammerdance's finding until a beta player or the client's options confirm the rules.

See anyone's talents, and link map pins

The client has a "View Talents" option, which matches what hammerdance shows: right-click a player you have inspected, or a party member's portrait, and you can read their exact talent build from anywhere. They also show map pins: hold Ctrl and left-click in a zone like Wetlands to drop a pin, then shift-click the pin to drop it into chat as a link others can click to ping the spot. The client has map pins and chat; the exact keybinds are hammerdance's demonstration, not something our data lists.

Gear sets, names, whispers and bars

  • Equipment Manager. The client has an "Equipment Manager" and a "New Set" button, so gear sets are built in. hammerdance makes a PvP set and a casual set and swaps them with one click, no addon needed.
  • Secondary name. The client has a "Secondary Name" option. hammerdance says characters carry two names and you can hide the second on your own screen; that others still see both is a behaviour our text does not state.
  • Classic whispers. The client has "Chat Style" with "IM Style" and "Classic Style", plus "New Whispers". Switching to classic and setting whispers inline puts them back in the chat box instead of a pop-up window.
  • Status text. The client has "Status Text" with a "Numeric Value" and a "Health Value", so you can show health and mana as numbers, a percentage or both on your unit frames.
  • Hide empty buttons. The client has "Always Show Buttons" in "Edit Mode". hammerdance right-clicks a bar and unchecks it to hide empty slots, using Hunter's Mark and Concussive Shot as the example buttons.

For casters and druids

Mouseover casting

The client has a Mouseover Cast option. hammerdance enables it, picks a modifier key (they use control), and then a heal lands on whoever is under the cursor without a target. They show it with a druid's Regrowth, learned from the trainer at level 12, and with Rejuvenation. It skips the targeting step, which helps healers and anyone who dispels or buffs. See the Druid page and the Restoration Druid simulator.

Feral combat as a weapon skill

hammerdance says a druid's feral combat, the attacks you use in Bear Form (a quest reward at level 10), counts as a "weapon skill" that starts at 0 and caps at 50 at level 10, so you have to auto-attack to raise it before your hits land well. The client does have a "Weapon Skill" rating, and the Bear Form tooltip in Forever only changed its wording, not its numbers. The 0-to-50 figure and the raising mechanic are a behaviour the client text does not show, so that part is hammerdance's in-game observation. See Druid changes and the Feral Combat Druid simulator. The client backs this: it has a Druid-only "Feral Combat" skill listed with the weapon skills, separate from the Feral Combat talent tree. The starting value and cap are hammerdance's numbers.

The 40-quest log and campfire crafting

hammerdance says you now have a "40 quest log", double the old 20, and that you can craft while you sit at a campfire for its buffs, though they are not sure whether that last one is intended. The client has a Quest Log, but the 40 limit is a number our data does not carry, and campfire crafting is a server-side behaviour we cannot read from the client. Both stay unverified until a beta player tests them. The campfire part checks out: the client's campfire kits say "Players sitting or crafting nearby for 1 min will gain benefits from other camp features", so crafting by the fire is meant to work. The 40 is a number our data doesn't hold, so that one needs a check in game. More on camps: Camp features.

What we have, and what we don't

The client's interface text names most of these features, so we can confirm they exist: transmog, "View Talents", the "Equipment Manager", "Secondary Name", "Chat Style", "Status Text", "Always Show Buttons" and Mouseover Cast. What we cannot confirm from the client is the 40-quest cap, campfire crafting, the rules behind situational transmog's automatic switching, and the feral weapon-skill 0-to-50 detail. Those are numbers and behaviours a player has to show in game. The beta's level cap is also 30, so a druid's higher feral ranks and the places some of these outfits key off, such as raids and higher battlegrounds, can only be tested in part right now.
