Does WoW Forever have servers? Rulesets explained

WoW Forever has no realm list: you choose a ruleset, Normal, PvP or Roleplaying, with Hardcore joining sometime after launch, and each one works as its own large community for grouping, dungeons and raids (Blizzard, 21 Sep 2026).

The four rulesets

Who you can play with

Moving between rulesets

To play on another ruleset you make a new character there. Hardcore will be fully enclosed, but a Hardcore character who dies can transfer to another ruleset, including PvP (Blizzard, 21 Sep 2026).

Language

You can set a preferred language under Options, Languages and Social; it has a 24-hour cooldown before you can change it again (Blizzard, 21 Sep 2026).

Servers and data centers

Blizzard's ruleset article doesn't name regions, data centers or server locations, so we don't either. Names are unique per region (Blizzard, 21 Sep 2026). During the beta, Blizzard has posted about EU routing problems and fixes (Blizzard, 21 Sep 2026); the server status page checks the login server every minute.

Questions and answers

Can I play with friends on a different ruleset?

Not in groups, dungeons or raids: cross-ruleset grouping isn't supported. Battlegrounds may mix rulesets, except Hardcore.

When does Hardcore come to WoW Forever?

Sometime after launch. Blizzard hasn't given a date.

Can I have Alliance and Horde characters on the PvP ruleset?

No. On PvP you can only make characters of one faction.
