Hidden items in WoW Forever
Blizzard's beta client lists 31,894 items, but 12,597 of them ship without their name or stats. The server sends an item's stats once a player has found it in game, and the game keeps them. ForeverDB has 4,637 so far; 7,960 are still hidden.

How Blizzard hides items
- The client has a row for every item (its type, slot and icon) but no name or stats for the hidden ones. Blizzard's Aggrend said items are obfuscated and "you will not see an item's stats until it drops for you" (Method).
- Icy Veins counted over 31,800 items in the client, 12,594 of them hidden (40%), and 4,419 revealed during the beta. Our own count of the client files agrees: 12,597 hidden.
- Wowhead asked beta testers to run its client for the same reason: item stats stay hidden until drops occur.
- 73 of the client's item rows are encrypted with a key Blizzard hasn't released, so not even their ids can be read: they count among the 31,894 items, but not as hidden or revealed here.
- Speculation: whether every realm gets the same reveals, and how fast, can't be checked with one game client. Uploads from players on different realms will tell.
- Speculation: 4,461 of the still-hidden ids are in Season of Discovery's item id range, so many are probably leftovers from it, not Forever items.
Help reveal them
When a player finds an item, Blizzard's server sends its stats to their game. Send yours and ForeverDB shows them to everyone: an item only players have found appears here once uploads from two separate players send the same data.
- Install the ForeverDB Uploader for Windows (version 2.2.1 or later) and leave it running. After you play, it sends the hidden item data from your game's cache by itself, with what the free ForeverDB addon records.
- An account is optional: without one, the Uploader can send it anonymously. With a free ForeverDB account, your uploads are credited to you.
- What's sent: the rows of the item tables (Item, ItemSparse, ItemSearchName, ItemEffect, ItemXItemEffect, TradeSkillItem) that Blizzard's server sent to your game, from
Cache\ADB\enUS\DBCache.bin. Game data only: no character, account, realm or player name is in them. - Never sent: the file's own header, the game's temporary copies of it, or the items your game asked about and was refused (they would show what you looked at). We keep each sender only as a salted code, never a name, address or install code.
