Leveling a Rogue to 30
A beginner's guide to leveling a Rogue to 30, the current WoW Forever beta cap: which race, every ability by level, the leveling talent builds at 20 and 30, what to press, class quests, gear, dungeons, and the mistakes new Rogues make.
The Forever beta's level cap has been 30 since the 1 October 2026 maintenance (build 1.60.1.70170). Blizzard hasn't said when it will rise again. Ability levels and tooltips in this guide come from the Forever beta client. Anything marked Classic comes from the original game's data and may be different in Forever.
The Rogue in a nutshell
A Rogue is a melee damage dealer. In group terms that makes you DPS (short for damage per second): your job is to kill things, not to heal or to hold the enemies' attention the way a tank does. You fight up close with one or two weapons, you can sneak around unseen with Stealth, and your attacks come in two kinds: builders that add combo points and finishers that spend them.
- Resource: Energy. It refills by itself, in and out of combat, so you never stop to drink the way a caster does. Every attack costs Energy, and when the bar is empty you wait a moment.
- Armor: leather and cloth. Leather with Agility is what you want.
- Weapons: daggers, one-handed swords, maces, axes and fist weapons. The Forever client lets Rogues hold a second weapon in the off hand from level 10. A bow, crossbow, gun or thrown weapon goes in the ranged slot for pulling enemies from a distance.
- Good at: killing one enemy fast, picking your fights with Stealth, sneaking past enemies to reach a quest objective, and stopping enemy spellcasters with Kick.
- Weak at: healing yourself (you have no heals, so you eat food and use bandages), fighting several enemies at once (you have no area attacks; Combat's Blade Flurry at 30 is the closest thing), and anything at range. Your damage depends heavily on your weapon.
Tip: New to WoW? A mob is any computer-controlled enemy, a pull is starting a fight with one, and aggro means a mob has decided to attack you. Most of leveling is pulling one mob at a time, killing it and moving on.
Choosing a race
Nine races can be Rogues in Forever: Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome and High Order Skyborne for the Alliance, and Orc, Undead, Troll and Windshaper Skyborne for the Horde. Tauren can't. Every race has its own racial abilities, and none of them makes or breaks a Rogue, so pick the faction your friends play and a race you like. Here is what each one brings.
| Race | Faction | Racials that help a Rogue |
|---|---|---|
| Human | Alliance | Sword Specialization adds 2% critical strike chance while you hold a sword, a good fit for Combat. Will to Survive removes stuns, and Perception helps you spot stealthed players. |
| Dwarf | Alliance | Stoneform removes bleeds, poisons and diseases and cuts Physical damage taken by 10% for 8 sec. Mace Specialization adds 1% critical strike chance with a mace, and Big Game Hunter adds 5% damage against Beasts. |
| Night Elf | Alliance | Quickness gives 1% more dodge, 2% more speed, and makes a Night Elf Rogue harder to spot in Stealth. Elune's Light adds 10% critical strike chance for 15 sec, and Shadowmeld hides you while you stand still. |
| Gnome | Alliance | Eureka! makes a few attacks cheaper and stronger (see the warning below). Escape Artist frees you from roots and slows. |
| High Order Skyborne | Alliance | Wind Blessed adds 1% Haste. Read Ley Line raises your Health regeneration by 100% (for 15 min near a ley line, 15 sec elsewhere), which shortens the wait between fights, and Elemental Insight adds 5% damage against Elementals. |
| Orc | Horde | Blood Fury raises Attack Power by 10% for 15 sec. Axe Specialization adds 1% critical strike chance with an axe, and Rogues can use one-handed axes in Forever. Hardiness makes stuns on you 20% shorter. |
| Undead | Horde | Cannibalize regenerates Health from a nearby Humanoid or Undead corpse, so you eat less between fights. Will of the Forsaken breaks Charm, Fear and Sleep, and Touch of the Grave sometimes drains Health from your target. |
| Troll | Horde | Berserking makes you attack 10% faster. Rapid Regeneration regenerates 50% of your maximum Health over 6 sec while you stay still, like a free meal between fights. Regeneration and Beast Slaying add Health regeneration and 5% damage against Beasts. |
| Windshaper Skyborne | Horde | The same racials as the High Order Skyborne: Wind Blessed, Read Ley Line and Elemental Insight, plus Skysight for speed and Walk on Air to glide down from heights. |
Racial tooltips from the Forever client. Blizzard is still tuning racials during the beta.
Watch out: The client's tooltip for the Gnome racial Eureka! now reads 'your next 3 non-periodic damaging abilities have their Energy cost reduced by 10% and deal 10% more damage', and Blizzard's 1 October notes say it no longer benefits periodic effects at all, so bleeds such as Garrote and Rupture get nothing from it. Blizzard also lists it as a known issue that Eureka doesn't yet affect every damaging spell for some classes, so expect more changes.
The Skyborne are new in Forever and begin on Zephras Isle, their own level 1–12 starting zone (Meet the Skyborne). For every race and racial in one place, see Races, classes and racials.
Tip: On a PvP realm (see rulesets), racials that break stuns or spot stealthed players are worth more, because other players can attack you while you quest.
How a Rogue fights
Energy
Every Rogue attack costs Energy. The bar refills on its own, so a Rogue never has to stop and drink. What you manage is the spending: if you press everything the moment you can, you run dry and stand there auto-attacking. The table shows what your main attacks cost in the Forever client.
| Ability | Kind | Energy | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sinister Strike | Builder | 45 | Works from any side, with any weapon. |
| Backstab | Builder | 60 | Only from behind, with a dagger in your main hand. |
| Gouge | Builder and control | 45 | The target must face you. Any damage breaks it. |
| Eviscerate | Finisher | 35 | Damage grows with each combo point spent. |
| Slice and Dice | Finisher | 25 | Faster attacks; more points only make it last longer. |
| Kick | Interrupt | 25 | Stops a spell being cast. |
| Garrote | Opener | 50 | From Stealth, from behind. A bleed. |
| Ambush | Opener | 60 | From Stealth, from behind, with a dagger. |
| Cheap Shot | Opener and control | 60 | From Stealth only. A stun that also adds 2 combo points. Level 26. |
| Kidney Shot | Finisher and control | 25 | A stun that lasts longer with each combo point. Level 30. |
Rank 1 Energy costs from the Forever client. Talents can lower them: at 2/2, Improved Sinister Strike takes 5 Energy off Sinister Strike, and Flawless Execution, a Combat talent reachable at 25, takes 10 off Eviscerate.
Combo points
Builders such as Sinister Strike and Backstab add a combo point to your target, up to 5. Finishers such as Eviscerate and Slice and Dice spend all of them, and the more points you spend, the stronger or longer the finisher. Combo points sit on the target, not on you: switch targets, or let the mob die first, and those points are gone.
Tip: Blizzard listed it as a known issue on September 24 that the beta's Personal Resource Display doesn't show combo points. The 1 October notes gave the combo points on the target frame and the Personal Resource Display new art, but don't say that issue is fixed, so count them on the target frame.
Stealth and openers
Stealth makes you hard to see but slows you by 50%. Stealth is rank 2, learned at level 20, and slows you by only 40%.
Stealth isn't invisibility. Mobs notice you when you get close, and higher-level mobs notice you sooner, so approach from behind and go around other enemies instead of brushing past them. From Stealth you start fights with an opener: Garrote from level 14 and Ambush from level 18, both from behind the target. Sap from level 10 takes a Humanoid out of the fight before it starts, and Pick Pocket from level 4 lets you pick a mob's pocket before you attack. From level 26, Cheap Shot opens with a 4 sec stun and 2 combo points instead of damage.
Poisons
Speculation: Poisons are in the client, but how you get them isn't confirmed. The Forever client has the Poisons skill at level 20, and the poisons themselves need these levels: Instant Poison and Crippling Poison 20, Mind-numbing Poison 24, Instant Poison II 28 and Deadly Poison 30. Their tooltips: Instant Poison gives each hit a 20% chance to deal 13 to 17 Nature damage (20 to 26 for Instant Poison II), Crippling Poison a 30% chance to slow the target by 50% for 12 sec, Mind-numbing Poison a 20% chance to make the target cast 40% slower for 10 sec, and Deadly Poison a 30% chance to deal 24 Nature damage over 12 sec, stacking up to 5 times. All of them last 30 minutes on a weapon. In Classic, Rogues learned poisons through a class quest chain that starts at level 20 (Mathias and the Defias for the Alliance, Deep Cover for the Horde) and runs on through Klaven's Tower or Mission: Possible But Not Probable at level 24, and mixed them from ingredients such as Dust of Decay. Those quests are in the Forever client, but nobody has confirmed yet that they teach poisons in Forever.
Your abilities, level by level
The table lists everything the Rogue trainer teaches up to level 30, straight from the Forever client. Visit your class trainer whenever you reach a new even level: new ranks hit harder, and new abilities change how you fight.

Everything a Rogue learns from the class trainer up to level 30, from the Forever client.
The ones that matter most while leveling, in the order you get them:
- Level 1: Sinister Strike is your first builder and works with any weapon. Eviscerate is your finisher: rank 1 deals 26-30 damage at 5 points, plus a share of your Attack Power. Stealth lets you sneak up on mobs.
- Level 4: Backstab deals 150% weapon damage plus 10, but only from behind the target and only with a dagger in your main hand. Pick Pocket steals from a mob before you fight it.
- Level 6: Gouge incapacitates a mob that is facing you for 4 sec and adds a combo point. Gouge also turns off your own auto attack, so use the pause to let Energy refill or to step behind the mob.
- Level 8: Evasion raises your dodge chance by 50% for 15 sec. It has a long cooldown, so it's your answer to a fight you might lose.
- Level 10: Sap incapacitates a Humanoid that isn't in combat for up to 25 sec and doesn't break Stealth. Slice and Dice is a finisher that makes you attack 20% faster; more points only make it last longer. Sprint makes you 50% faster for 15 sec and doesn't break Stealth, which makes it your escape button. Level 10 is also when your first talent point and your off-hand weapon slot arrive.
- Level 12: Kick interrupts a spell and stops the caster using that school of magic for 5 sec. Use it on enemy heals.
- Level 14: Garrote is an opener from Stealth and from behind: a bleed for 144 damage over 18 sec, plus a share of your Attack Power. Expose Armor lowers a target's armor, which is mostly for long group fights, not solo play.
- Level 16: Feint lowers your threat, the number that decides which player a mob attacks. You need it in groups, not solo.
- Level 18: Ambush is the big dagger opener: 250% weapon damage plus 70, from Stealth and from behind.
- Level 20: Rupture is a bleed finisher, but its Forever numbers are low (87 damage over 16 secs at 5 points, before Attack Power), so Eviscerate stays your main finisher. You also get Stealth and Backstab.
- Level 22: Vanish makes you vanish into an improved Stealth for 10 sec and breaks movement impairing effects, so it's your new escape button. Distract draws nearby enemies' attention and lowers their Stealth detection for 10 seconds, which helps you slip past a group. New ranks of Garrote and Sinister Strike arrive too.
- Level 24: Detect Traps helps you spot traps, and Eviscerate, rank 4, deals 165-185 damage at 5 points before Attack Power.
- Level 26: Cheap Shot stuns a mob for 4 sec from Stealth and adds 2 combo points: the safest way to open on a dangerous mob or a caster. You also get new ranks of Ambush, Kick and Expose Armor.
- Level 28: Sap now lasts up to 35 sec. Rupture, rank 2, rises to 127 damage over 16 secs at 5 points before Attack Power, still well below Eviscerate, and Backstab and Feint get new ranks.
- Level 30: Kidney Shot is a finisher that stuns for 1 second per combo point, up to 5 seconds, so you can stop a caster or a runner. The new Coup de Grace makes Eviscerate deal 2% more for each application of your Deadly Poison on the target. Disarm Trap, Garrote and Sinister Strike arrive as well, and your talents reach their fifth row.
- Above the current cap: Gouge and Eviscerate come at level 32, Blind and Sprint at level 34, and Safe Fall at level 40.
Talents: which spec to level with
Your first talent point comes at level 10 and you get one more each level, so you have 11 by level 20 and 21 by level 30. The Rogue talent window has three sections, Assassination, Combat and Subtlety, and each section opens a new row of talents for every 5 points you put into it: the fourth row opens at level 25 with 15 points in that section, and the fifth at level 30 with 20. ForeverDB publishes a level 20 and a level 30 leveling build for each section on the Rogue builds page, with the reason for every point and a talent calculator. In short:
| Build | Talents at 20 | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Combat: Sinister Strike and Endurance | Improved Eviscerate 3/3, Improved Sinister Strike 2/2, Lightning Reflexes 2/5, Precision 3/3, Endurance 1/2 | The builds page calls it the safest questing build: a harder Eviscerate, cheaper Sinister Strikes, more hit and a little dodge, and Endurance for shorter Evasion and Sprint cooldowns. Works with any one-handed weapon. |
| Assassination: Malice and Relentless Strikes | Malice 5/5, Ruthlessness 3/3, Murder 2/2, Relentless Strikes 1/1 | More critical strikes on everything, a good chance of a free combo point after each finisher, more damage against Humanoids and Giants, and Energy back from every 5-point finisher. |
| Subtlety: Dagger opener | Opportunity 2/2, Camouflage 3/5, Improved Ambush 3/3, Setup 2/3, Ghostly Strike 1/1 | For opening every fight from Stealth with a dagger: stronger Ambush and Backstab, an Ambush that usually crits, back into Stealth sooner, combo points from dodges, and Ghostly Strike, a builder that works from the front and adds dodge. |
The published level 20 leveling builds. See the builds page for the full reasoning and the dungeon and PvP versions.
If you're new, Combat is the forgiving choice: you don't need to stand behind the mob, any decent one-handed weapon works, and Endurance keeps your emergency buttons ready. Pick Assassination if you like crits and finishers that pay for themselves, or Subtlety if you enjoy the stealthy dagger style and don't mind hunting for a good dagger.
Every rank of every talent has its own values in the Forever client, and the builds page shows what each point adds. Blizzard's September 24 notes say that during the beta, resetting your talents costs 1 silver if you haven't changed them recently, so it's cheap to try all three.
At 30 each build carries on down its own section and reaches the fifth row:
| Build | Talents at 30 | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Combat: Riposte and Blade Flurry leveling | Improved Eviscerate 3/3, Improved Sinister Strike 2/2, Lightning Reflexes 2/5, Precision 3/3, Deflection 3/3, Endurance 2/2, Riposte 1/1, Flawless Execution 1/1, Dual Wield Specialization 3/5, Blade Flurry 1/1 | A sturdy solo build: Deflection and Riposte punish mobs that fight you face to face, Endurance brings Evasion and Sprint back quickly, Flawless Execution and Dual Wield Specialization add damage, and Blade Flurry handles two-mob pulls. |
| Assassination: Mutilate leveling | Malice 5/5, Remorseless Attacks 2/2, Ruthlessness 3/3, Murder 2/2, Relentless Strikes 1/1, Lethality 2/5, Improved Poisons 4/5, Cold Blood 1/1, Mutilate 1/1 | Mutilate hits with both weapons and adds 2 combo points at a time, and the client requires a dagger in each hand for it. Cold Blood gives a sure crit when you need one, and Improved Poisons makes your poisons land more often. |
| Subtlety: Hemorrhage and Initiative leveling | Opportunity 2/2, Camouflage 4/5, Improved Ambush 3/3, Setup 3/3, Ghostly Strike 1/1, Initiative 3/3, Serrated Blades 3/3, Premeditation 1/1, Hemorrhage 1/1 | Initiative and Premeditation for fast openers, the last Setup point, and Serrated Blades into Hemorrhage, a cheap builder that works from any side and makes your Rupture hit harder. |
The published level 30 leveling builds. The builds page has the reason for every point and the dungeon and PvP versions.
Combat is still the easiest of the three at 30. Assassination needs two daggers before Mutilate is any use, and Subtlety rewards a player who opens every fight from Stealth.
What to press
This is the level 20 Combat leveling rotation from the builds page, in plain steps; what changes at 30 follows below. Auto attack is your weapon swinging on its own once a fight starts; everything else is a button you press.
One enemy
- Walk up in Stealth if you want to start the fight on your terms. If the mob will live a while, open with Garrote from behind; otherwise just attack.
- Press Sinister Strike until you have 1 or 2 combo points, then spend them on Slice and Dice if the fight will last. Skip it on mobs that die quickly.
- Keep pressing Sinister Strike up to 5 combo points, then use Eviscerate. If the mob is nearly dead, finish with 3 or 4 points instead of wasting Energy.
- If the mob starts casting a spell, especially a heal, Kick it.
- Low on Energy against a tough mob? Use Gouge, let your Energy come back, then carry on. Any damage wakes the mob up, so don't hit it until you're ready.
With a dagger (the Assassination and Subtlety builds), open with Ambush from behind and use Backstab whenever you're behind the mob, falling back to Sinister Strike when you're in front. Subtlety also presses Ghostly Strike whenever it's ready.
Two or more enemies
Rogues have no area attacks up to 30, so the plan is to take enemies out of the fight and kill them one at a time.
- If a Humanoid stands next to your target before the fight, Sap it first, then open on the other one.
- When two mobs are hitting you, press Evasion early, not when you're nearly dead.
- Gouge the second mob and kill the first. Don't hit the Gouged one, because any damage breaks it.
- Build and finish on one target at a time, and spend your combo points before that target dies.
- If it's going badly, use Sprint and run. From level 22, Vanish gets you out of a fight, and it breaks slows as well.
Tip: Use your bow, gun, crossbow or thrown weapon to pull a single mob toward you from a distance, away from its friends, then fight it where nothing else can join in.
At level 30
This is the level 30 Combat leveling rotation from the builds page.
- On a dangerous mob or a caster, open from Stealth with Cheap Shot: a stun and 2 combo points.
- Spend those points on Slice and Dice and keep it up for the whole fight.
- On a tough mob, press Blade Flurry for 15 sec of 20% faster attacks.
- Build with Sinister Strike and finish with a 5-point Eviscerate. Flawless Execution makes Eviscerate 10 Energy cheaper, so don't hold back.
- Whenever Riposte lights up after you parry, use it.
- Use Kidney Shot on a caster or a mob that starts to run, and Kick heals.
On two-mob pulls, press Blade Flurry first: your attacks also hit a second mob next to your target. Don't use it near a Sapped or Gouged mob, because the extra hits break both. With two daggers, Assassination builds with Mutilate instead and saves Cold Blood for a 5-point Eviscerate on a tough mob. Subtlety opens with Premeditation and Ambush for 4 combo points, builds with Hemorrhage, and uses Rupture on long fights.

Rogue class quests the Forever client has, up to level 30. Levels, givers and places are Classic data. The Skyborne start on Zephras Isle, and the data doesn't show which of these they get.
Klaven's Tower and Mission: Possible But Not Probable continue the level 20 chains that start with Mathias and the Defias and Deep Cover; in Classic those chains are where Rogues learned poisons (see the Poisons section above). The map links drop a pin on the Forever map at the Classic spot. Blizzard's 1 October notes add that Shenthul in Orgrimmar now trains Windshaper Skyborne.
Speculation: Pick Lock is in the Forever client, but it isn't in the Rogue trainer list, so we can't say when you get it. In Classic the Rogue trainer taught it at level 16.
Gear and weapons
Your weapon matters more than any other item. Sinister Strike adds a flat amount to your weapon's damage, and Backstab and Ambush deal a percentage of it, so a harder-hitting main-hand weapon makes every attack stronger. Replace your weapon whenever you find a clear upgrade.
- Combat: any one-handed sword, mace, axe or fist weapon with the best damage you can find. Humans with a sword, Orcs with an axe and Dwarves with a mace also get their racial critical strike bonus.
- Assassination and Subtlety: a dagger in the main hand, because Backstab and Ambush need one.
- Off hand: from level 10 you can hold a second one-handed weapon. It swings on its own and adds damage, so put your second-best weapon there.
- Armor: leather with Agility. For groups, the Rogue dungeon guide ranks the stats as Hit, Agility, Critical Strike, Attack Power, then Strength.
The Rogue dungeon guide lists the best items for each slot at 20 and 30 and where they come from, and the gear planner lets you try combinations. A few examples at 20:
- Brawler's Leather Armor and the rest of the Brawler's Leather set are new Forever Leatherworking recipes. The chest needs level 15 and Brawler's Leather Pants needs level 20.
- Pyrewood Signet Ring is a new Rogue-only ring in the client. Where it comes from isn't known yet.
- In Classic's loot tables, Cruel Barb (a sword) drops from Edwin VanCleef in the Deadmines, and Butcher's Cleaver (a one-handed axe, which Forever Rogues can now use) from Razorclaw the Butcher in Shadowfang Keep. Forever may have changed these drops.
And at 30:
- Leatherworking keeps you covered: Brawler's Leather Helm and Brawler's Leather Legguards carry the Brawler's Leather set on at level 25, and Dusky Leather Armor and the new Skulker's Leather Belt need level 30.
- In Classic's loot tables, Swinetusk Shank (a dagger, level 30) drops from Agathelos the Raging in Razorfen Kraul, and Bloody Brass Knuckles (a fist weapon, level 29) from Interrogator Vishas in Scarlet Monastery. Mantle of Thieves drops from Overlord Ramtusk and Aggem Thorncurse in Razorfen Kraul. Forever may have changed these drops.
- Wyvern Heart Band is a new ring in the client that needs level 29. Where it comes from isn't known yet.
- Assassination at 30 needs a dagger in each hand for Mutilate, so keep your second-best dagger for the off hand.
Professions that suit a Rogue
Any profession works, and Professions explains them all. Rogue-friendly picks:
- Skinning and Leatherworking: skin the beasts you kill anyway and turn the leather into armor you wear, such as the Brawler's Leather set.
- First Aid: you have no heals, so bandages such as Linen Bandage save you food and time. In the Forever client, First Aid also has healing potion recipes such as Minor Healing Potion.
- Herbalism or Mining: a gathering profession earns the money you'll spend on training and weapons.
Groups and dungeons
In a group you're melee DPS. Let the tank (the player who holds the mobs' attention) pull, then attack the tank's target from behind. Good habits:
- Stay in Stealth until the tank has the mobs' attention, then open.
- Before the pull, Sap one Humanoid from Stealth and tell the group which one, so the tank faces one mob fewer.
- Use Kick on enemy casters, especially their heals.
- Use Feint when you're close to pulling a mob off the tank, especially after a big critical Eviscerate.
- Use Gouge on a loose mob that's hitting the healer, while the tank comes to pick it up. From level 30, Kidney Shot does the same job on a mob that isn't facing you.
- Kill mobs in the order the tank marks them.
Tip: A known issue in the 1 October build: enemies can parry and block attacks from behind if you stand very close to them. Until Blizzard fixes it, stand a little back from the target when you Backstab.
Blizzard's 1 October notes list the dungeons open in the beta. Up to 20 you have Ragefire Chasm, The Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, the Deadmines and Wailing Caverns. For 20 to 30 there are Shadowfang Keep, The Stockade, Blackfathom Deeps, Gnomeregan, Razorfen Kraul and Scarlet Monastery, plus the new Excavation Site: Wetlands, which Blizzard lists for levels 26 to 31, and Razorfen Downs, listed for 25 and up. Uldaman is listed for 30 and up. Each page lists its bosses and quests.
The same notes cut dungeon quest experience: dungeon quests now reward 50% less extra experience beyond normal quest values, so they're still worth doing, but no longer a shortcut. The Rogue dungeon guide has group builds for 20 and 30, and Your first dungeon covers finding a group and what to expect.
Common beginner mistakes
- Finishing with 1 or 2 combo points. Eviscerate costs the same Energy at any number of points, so build to 5 unless the mob is about to die.
- Switching targets with points on the first mob. The points stay on that mob and are lost when it dies.
- Pressing Backstab from the front, or without a dagger. It only works from behind with a dagger in your main hand. Use Sinister Strike instead.
- Hitting a Gouged or Sapped mob by accident. Any damage breaks both, so plan which mob you're fighting first.
- Saving Evasion until you're nearly dead. Press it as soon as a second mob joins in.
- Walking through mobs in Stealth. The closer you get, the more likely they see you. Go around them.
- Keeping an old weapon. Your weapon is most of your damage; upgrade it whenever you can.
- Forgetting food and bandages. You have no heals, so carry both.
- Pulling for the group in a dungeon. Let the tank start every fight.
What Forever changed for Rogues
- Puncturing Wounds is a new Combat talent: at 3/3 it makes Backstab crit far more often and often add a second combo point.
- Rogues can use one-handed axes, which they couldn't in Classic, so the Orc racial Axe Specialization now helps Rogues too.
- The Forever tooltip for Sap drops Classic's 'Must be stealthed' line and says 'Does not break Stealth'. Blizzard's September 24 notes add that Sap now flags you for PvP when you use it on a player who is flagged.
- Some numbers moved. Backstab rank 1 adds 10 damage instead of Classic's 15, Expose Armor rank 1 removes 90 armor per combo point instead of 80, and Rupture, rank 2 of Rupture, deals 127 damage over 16 secs at 5 points instead of Classic's 216.
- New tools arrive at 30. Coup de Grace comes from the trainer at level 30 and makes Eviscerate hit harder against targets with your Deadly Poison. Mutilate is a tier 5 Assassination talent you can take at level 30; the client requires a dagger in each hand for it, though its tooltip doesn't say so. Venom, the Assassination capstone, needs level 40, above the current cap.
- Flawless Execution is a new tier 4 Combat talent that makes Eviscerate cheaper. The talent window itself is new too: Improved Eviscerate moved to Combat and Improved Gouge to Assassination, and Deadliness, Fist Weapon Specialization, Improved Sap and Sleight of Hand are no longer talents.
- Blizzard's 1 October notes fixed a bug where a missed Expose Armor made you lose all your combo points, and changed Setup, a Subtlety talent: it now only adds combo points to your current target if that's the enemy whose attack you dodged or whose spell you resisted.
- The same notes say the Cooldown Manager now supports Rogues. Blizzard's September 24 known issues said it can't track item enhancements such as poisons, and the 1 October notes don't say that has changed.
The full list of Rogue differences from Classic is on the Rogue changes page, Level 30 build goes live covers everything the 1 October build changed, and our Rogue outlook looks further ahead.
