Leveling a Priest to 30
A beginner's guide to leveling a Priest to level 30, the current WoW Forever beta cap: the race-only Priest spells, every ability by level, the Shadow, Discipline and Holy leveling builds at 20 and 30, what to press, saving Mana with shields and wands, class quests, gear and dungeons up to 30, and what Forever changed.
Since the 1 October 2026 maintenance (build 1.60.1.70170) the Forever beta is capped at level 30; Blizzard hasn't said when the cap will rise again. See Level 30 build goes live for everything that build changed. Ability levels and tooltips in this guide come from the Forever beta client. Anything marked Classic comes from the original game's data and may be different in Forever.
The Priest in a nutshell
A Priest is a caster who can both heal and deal damage. In a group you're usually the healer, the player who keeps everyone alive. Alone, you're a ranged damage dealer who shields and heals yourself. You fight from a distance with Holy and Shadow spells, and you finish enemies off with a wand.
- Resource: Mana. Every spell costs it, and it comes back slowly, mostly while you aren't casting. Managing Mana is the main skill of leveling a Priest.
- Armor: cloth only.
- Weapons: staves, one-handed maces and daggers, plus a wand in the ranged slot.
- Good at: healing yourself and others, soaking damage with Power Word: Shield, and fighting from range. Dungeon groups always need a healer, so a Priest is welcome in them.
- Weak at: taking hits (cloth armor and low Health), killing quickly in the early levels, and running out of Mana. Until you have a wand and Mind Blast, kills take a while.
Tip: New to WoW? A mob is any computer-controlled enemy, a pull is starting a fight with one, and threat (or aggro) decides which player a mob attacks. Healing and big damage spells both create threat.
Choosing a race
Six races can be Priests in Forever: Human, Dwarf, Night Elf and Gnome for the Alliance, and Undead and Troll for the Horde. Orcs, Tauren and the Skyborne can't. Gnome Priests are new in Forever.
Race matters more for a Priest than for most classes, because the Forever client gives each Priest race two spells that only it learns from the trainer, one at level 10 and one at level 20, and the trainer sells stronger ranks of most of them as you level towards 30. None of them makes one race the right answer: they're extras on top of the same core kit, so choose the race and faction you want to play.
| Race | Faction | Priest spells only this race learns | Racials that help a Priest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human | Alliance | Divine Grace (10): an instant heal on an ally below 50% Health that also removes Weakened Soul. It can't target yourself. Feedback (20): burns the Mana of casters who hit you with spells. | The Human Spirit adds 5% Spirit, which speeds up Mana regeneration. Will to Survive removes stuns. |
| Dwarf | Alliance | Desperate Prayer (10): an instant heal on yourself. Chastise (20): Holy damage that roots a Humanoid for up to 2 sec, with very low threat. | Stoneform removes poisons, diseases and bleeds and cuts Physical damage taken by 10% for 8 sec. Mace Specialization adds 1% critical strike chance, spells included, while you hold a mace. |
| Night Elf | Alliance | Starshards (10): 162 Arcane damage over 6 sec at rank 1. Elune's Grace (20): melee and ranged attacks are 50% less likely to hit you for up to 15 sec. | Elune's Light adds 10% critical strike chance for 15 sec. Shadowmeld hides you while you stand still, and Quickness adds 1% dodge and 2% movement speed. |
| Gnome | Alliance | Confounding Flash (10): confuses up to 5 enemies within 8 yds for 3 sec. Contingency Plan (20): a ward on an ally that shields and heals them if damage drops them below 35% Health. | Expansive Mind adds 5% maximum Mana. Escape Artist frees you from roots and slows. |
| Undead | Horde | Touch of Weakness (10): the next melee attack against you deals Shadow damage back and weakens the attacker. Dark Sacrifice (20): turns 400 of your own Health into Mana over 15 sec. | Cannibalize restores 7% of your Health and Mana every 2 sec for 10 sec from a nearby Humanoid or Undead corpse, which cuts down on drinking. Will of the Forsaken breaks Charm, Fear and Sleep. |
| Troll | Horde | Hex of Weakness (10): lowers an enemy's melee attack power and cuts the healing it receives by 20%. Shadowguard (20): hits back with Shadow damage when you're struck, and that damage causes no threat. | Berserking makes you cast 10% faster. Rapid Regeneration and Regeneration speed up getting your Health back. |
Race-only Priest spells from the Forever client's trainer data (level learned in brackets), and racial tooltips from the client. Blizzard is still tuning both during the beta.
Two spells stopped being race spells. In Classic's quest data, Fear Ward was a Dwarf spell and Devouring Plague an Undead one, but the Forever client teaches both to every Priest at level 20. The reverse happened to Desperate Prayer: Classic offered it to Humans and Dwarves, while in Forever only Dwarves learn it and Humans get Divine Grace instead.
For every race and racial in one place, see Races, classes and racials.
How a Priest levels: Mana, shields and wands
Mana
Every spell costs Mana, and your Mana mostly comes back while you aren't casting. Leveling a Priest well means spending as little Mana per kill as you can, so you rest less between fights. A few habits do most of the work:
- Let damage over time do its work: Shadow Word: Pain is cheap and keeps hurting the mob while you do other things.
- Finish mobs with your wand instead of spells (see below).
- Don't overheal. A Renew or a low rank of Lesser Heal tops you up for less than a big heal.
- Sit down and drink when you're low. Food brings back Health and drinks bring back Mana, and you can use both at once.
- Keep Power Word: Fortitude and, from level 12, Inner Fire on yourself. They last a long time and make every fight safer. From level 30, add Divine Spirit for more Spirit.
Tip: Spirit on gear speeds up your Mana regeneration, and the Discipline talent Meditation keeps part of it going even while you cast: 17% with one point, up to 50% with all three.
Power Word: Shield
Power Word: Shield absorbs damage, and while it holds, damage can't interrupt your spellcasting. It also puts Weakened Soul on its target. Power Word: Shield can't be cast on a target with Weakened Soul, which lasts 15 sec.
Solo, the pattern is simple: shield yourself, then pull. The shield soaks the first hits while you cast, and a mob hitting you can't stop your spells until it breaks. It grows with you: rank 4 at 24 absorbs 226 damage and rank 5 at 30 absorbs 291.
Power Word: Shield can now always overwrite an existing Power Word: Shield on a target that does not have Weakened Soul. Blizzard, WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated September 24
Your wand
A wand is a ranged weapon that shoots magic. Firing it with Shoot costs no Mana, so the standard Priest habit is to open with spells, then let the wand finish the enemy and save your Mana for the next fight.
Priests can use wands from level 1 in the Forever client, so get one early and replace it often. Wands come from quests, drops and Enchanting: the Forever client has Enchanting recipes for Lesser Magic Wand (needs level 5) and Greater Magic Wand (needs level 13), plus the new Novice's Practice Wand.
Watch out: Blizzard's September 24 notes say wands no longer gain damage from your spell damage. Spell power on gear makes your spells stronger, not your wand, so compare wands by their own damage.
Tip: The Discipline talent Wand Specialization adds 13% wand damage with one point and 25% with two, which is why the Discipline leveling build is built around the wand.
Your abilities, level by level
The table lists everything the Priest trainer teaches up to level 30, straight from the Forever client. It includes every race's special spells and their higher ranks, but you only learn your own race's. Visit your trainer whenever you reach a new even level.

Everything the Priest trainer teaches up to level 30, from the Forever client. Race-only spells are included; you learn only your own race's.
The ones that matter most while leveling, in the order you get them:
- Level 1: Smite is your first damage spell and Lesser Heal your first heal. Power Word: Fortitude raises Stamina, and so your Health, for 1 hour; cast it on yourself and on players you meet.
- Level 4: Shadow Word: Pain deals 30 Shadow damage over 18 sec at rank 1, costs little and needs no cast time. Put it on every enemy.
- Level 6: Power Word: Shield absorbs 44 damage at rank 1 and protects your casting while it holds.
- Level 8: Renew heals over 15 sec with no cast time. Fade lowers your threat for 10 sec, which matters in groups.
- Level 10: Mind Blast hits hard, but it has a cooldown and causes a high amount of threat. Resurrection brings a dead player back to life out of combat. Your race's first special spell arrives too.
- Level 12: Inner Fire adds 315 armor at rank 1, for 10 min or 20 hits.
- Level 14: Psychic Scream makes 2 enemies within 8 yards flee for 8 sec. Cure Disease removes a disease.
- Level 16: Heal heals 270 to 312 at rank 1. It's slow but efficient, the heal to use when you can see damage coming.
- Level 18: Dispel Magic removes a harmful spell from a friend or a helpful one from an enemy.
- Level 20: a big level. Flash Heal is a fast heal, Holy Fire a strong opener, Devouring Plague a damage-over-time spell that heals you, Fear Ward protects someone from the next Fear, and Shackle Undead holds one undead enemy out of a fight. Your race's second special spell arrives too.
- Level 22: Heal rank 2 heals 378 to 432 and Mind Blast rank 3 hits for 98 to 104. Mind Vision is new: it lets you see through a target's eyes, handy for scouting.
- Level 24: Mana Burn drains 191 to 203 mana from a target and deals Shadow damage for part of it, a tool against enemy casters and healers. Power Word: Shield and Power Word: Fortitude get stronger ranks too.
- Level 26: Shadow Word: Pain rank 4 deals 180 Shadow damage over 18 sec, and Renew and Flash Heal get new ranks. Dwarves get Desperate Prayer rank 3, Humans Divine Grace rank 3 and Night Elves Starshards rank 3.
- Level 28: Heal rank 3 heals 490 to 556, Mind Blast rank 4 hits for 147 to 155, Devouring Plague rank 2 deals 232 Shadow damage over 24 sec, and Psychic Scream rank 2 makes 3 enemies flee instead of 2. Trolls get Shadowguard rank 2.
- Level 30: another big level. Prayer of Healing heals the target and their whole party for 172 to 184, as long as they're within 40 yards of the target. Mind Control takes control of a humanoid enemy for up to 1 min. Divine Spirit, a talent in Classic, is now a trainer spell that adds 17 Spirit for 1 hour. Shadow Protection raises a target's Shadow resistance. Smite, Holy Fire, Power Word: Shield, Inner Fire and Fade get new ranks, and so do the race spells: Dwarves get Chastise, Gnomes Contingency Plan, Undead Dark Sacrifice and Touch of Weakness, Humans Feedback, and Trolls Hex of Weakness.
- Above the current cap: Shadow Word: Death comes at level 32, as do Abolish Disease and new ranks of Flash Heal and Mana Burn; Levitate comes at level 34 and Greater Heal at level 40.
Talents: which spec to level with
Your first talent point comes at level 10 and you get one more each level, so you have 11 by level 20 and 21 at level 30. Forever's talent window has three sections, Discipline (shields, Mana and your wand), Holy (healing and Holy damage) and Shadow (Shadow damage), and each section opens a new row for every 5 points you put in it. Row 4 needs 15 points in its section, so you can reach it from level 25, and row 5 needs 20, so a level 30 character can take exactly one row 5 talent if every point is in that section. ForeverDB publishes a level 20 and a level 30 leveling build for each on the Priest builds page, with the reason for every point:
| Build | Talents at 20 | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Shadow: Spirit Tap and Mind Flay Leveling | Spirit Tap 5/5, Shadow Focus 1/5, Improved Shadow Word: Pain 2/2, Shadow Reach 2/2, Mind Flay 1/1 | Spirit Tap doubles your Spirit for 15 sec after every kill, so you drink less. Shadow Word: Pain lasts 6 sec longer, your Shadow spells reach 20% further, and Mind Flay is a filler that deals damage over 3 sec and slows the enemy by 50%. |
| Discipline: Wand and Shield Leveling | Wand Specialization 2/2, Twin Disciplines 3/5, Improved Power Word: Shield 3/3, Holy Precision 2/3, Meditation 1/3 | Low downtime: 25% more wand damage, 3% stronger instant spells, a shield that absorbs 20% more, 12% better hit with Holy spells, and some Mana regeneration while you cast. |
| Holy: Smite Leveling | Twilight Focus 3/3, Holy Specialization 2/5, Divine Fury 5/5, Holy Nova 1/1 | Smite and Holy Fire cast 0.5 sec faster, a 70% chance to keep casting when you're hit, a little more critical chance, and Holy Nova for enemies that crowd you. |
The published level 20 leveling builds. See the builds page for the full reasoning and the dungeon healing and PvP versions.
| Build | Talents at 30 | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Shadow: Vampiric Embrace Leveling | Spirit Tap 5/5, Shadow Focus 1/5, Improved Shadow Word: Pain 2/2, Shadow Reach 2/2, Mind Flay 1/1, Improved Mind Blast 5/5, Vampiric Embrace 1/1, Shadow Weaving 3/3, Devouring Contagion 1/2 | Mind Blast's cooldown is 2.5 sec shorter, Vampiric Embrace heals you for 20% of your Shadow damage, Shadow Weaving adds 2% Shadow damage per stack up to 5 times, and Devouring Contagion makes Devouring Plague 25% cheaper and moves it to a nearby enemy when its target dies. |
| Discipline: Holy Fire and Penance Leveling | Wand Specialization 2/2, Twin Disciplines 3/5, Power in Light 5/5, Improved Power Word: Shield 3/3, Holy Precision 2/3, Meditation 3/3, Mental Agility 2/3, Penance 1/1 | Smite and Penance deal 10% more damage to targets burning with your Holy Fire, Meditation keeps 50% of your Mana regeneration going while you cast, Mental Agility makes Smite, Holy Fire and instant spells 7% cheaper, and Penance hits an enemy or heals an ally instantly and every 1 sec for 2 sec. |
| Holy: Smite Leveling with Searing Light | Twilight Focus 3/3, Holy Specialization 5/5, Divine Fury 5/5, Holy Nova 1/1, Blessed Recovery 3/3, Searing Light 2/2, Holy Reach 2/2 | Searing Light adds 5% Holy damage and can make your next Holy Nova free, Holy Reach adds 20% range to Smite and Holy Fire, Blessed Recovery heals back 25% of a big hit over 6 sec, and Holy Specialization reaches 5% critical chance. |
The published level 30 leveling builds (21 points). The builds page also has level 30 dungeon and PvP versions.
For a first Priest, Shadow is the simplest way to level: Mind Flay's slow keeps melee enemies from reaching you, Shadow Word: Pain and Mind Blast do the rest, and Spirit Tap gets your Mana back after each kill. At 25, Vampiric Embrace adds steady self-healing, and an enemy that dies with it on can also trigger Spirit Tap. Pick Discipline if you hate stopping to drink, or if you also want to heal dungeons; its level 30 reward is Penance, a heal that can also hit enemies, but it needs every one of your 21 points in Discipline. The Holy Smite build suits players who like Smite; Forever raised how much Smite gains from spell damage, so it grows with your gear.
Two former Season of Discovery spells are now talents you can reach by 30: Holy's Binding Heal in row 4, which heals a friendly target and you in one cast, and Discipline's Penance in row 5. Shadow's row 5 holds Silence, the Priest's only interrupt, which the level 30 dungeon and PvP builds take.
Every rank of every talent has its own numbers in the Forever client, and the builds page quotes them point by point. Blizzard's September 24 notes say that during the beta, resetting your talents costs 1 silver if you haven't changed them recently, so trying another spec is cheap.
What to press
This is the Shadow leveling rotation from the builds page, in plain steps, with notes for the other two builds.
One enemy
- Before you pull, check that Power Word: Fortitude and Inner Fire are on you.
- Shield yourself with Power Word: Shield.
- Open with Mind Blast from range, then put Shadow Word: Pain on the enemy right away so it ticks while you cast.
- Night Elves: add Starshards here. It's usually your biggest hit.
- Fill the gaps with Mind Flay, the level 20 Shadow talent, until Mind Blast is ready again. Before you have it, use Smite as the filler.
- When the enemy is low, switch to your wand to finish it and save Mana.
- Tough enemy? Devouring Plague deals damage over time and heals you, but it's expensive, so keep it for fights that last.
Until you learn Mind Blast at level 10, open with Shadow Word: Pain, cast Smite and let the wand finish. Discipline plays like the Shadow rotation with fewer spells: shield, open with Holy Fire or Mind Blast, add Shadow Word: Pain, and let the wand do the rest. Holy opens with Holy Fire, adds Shadow Word: Pain and uses Smite as its main spell.
Two or more enemies
- Shield yourself as soon as a second enemy joins.
- Put Shadow Word: Pain on each enemy.
- When two are on you, Psychic Scream sends them running for up to 8 sec. Damage may break it early, so use the time to kill one or heal.
- Slow and finish whichever enemy comes back first with Mind Flay.
- Gnomes can use Confounding Flash in an emergency, but any damage breaks it, including your own Shadow Word: Pain ticking.
- If your Health drops, heal while your shield holds, because damage can't interrupt your casts then.
Watch out: Fleeing enemies can run into other mobs and bring them back with them. Use Psychic Scream only where there's room for them to run without pulling more.
At level 30
The level 30 Shadow rotation from the builds page adds Vampiric Embrace and Shadow Weaving:
- Shield yourself, then put Vampiric Embrace on the enemy first: for 30 sec, 20% of your Shadow damage heals you.
- Add Shadow Word: Pain, then cast Mind Blast whenever it's ready; Improved Mind Blast brings it back sooner.
- Night Elves: Starshards here, every time it's ready.
- Fill with Mind Flay, which keeps Shadow Weaving stacked and slows the enemy.
- On tough enemies, add Devouring Plague. It heals you, Devouring Contagion makes it cheaper, and since the 1 October build it can land critical strikes.
- Let the wand finish the enemy.
Against two or more, put Shadow Word: Pain on each and Devouring Plague on the one that will die first, so Devouring Contagion moves the plague to a nearby enemy. At level 28, Psychic Scream rank 2 sends 3 enemies fleeing instead of 2.
Discipline at 30: shield, open with Holy Fire so Power in Light is active, then Smite and Penance while it burns, with Shadow Word: Pain and Mind Blast for extra damage and the wand to finish. When a fight goes badly, Penance heals you instead. Holy at 30: open with Holy Fire from range, add Shadow Word: Pain and Smite, and cast Mind Blast on cooldown. Searing Light gives every Holy Fire tick a chance to make your next Holy Nova free, so when two enemies reach you, a free Holy Nova is worth casting.
Class quests up to 30
Class quests are only offered to your class. The Forever client has the Priest quests below, but the givers and places come from Classic's data, so Forever may have moved or changed them. The client has no Priest class quests from level 21 to 30: every Priest spell in that range comes from the trainer or a talent.

Priest class quests the Forever client has, all of them at level 20 or below. Levels, givers and places are Classic data. There are no Gnome entries, since Gnome Priests are new in Forever.
Speculation: In Classic, the level 5 Garments quests asked you to heal and buff a wounded guard nearby with Lesser Heal and Power Word: Fortitude, and the level 10 and 20 quests were named after each race's special Priest spell. Forever's client still has the spells those quests cast to teach you, and Forever edited two of them: the Undead quest's reward now teaches Dark Sacrifice instead of Devouring Plague, and the Dwarf one Chastise instead of Fear Ward, so the race quests most likely still exist. Some spells changed hands too: Classic's Desperate Prayer quest was for Humans and Dwarves, but in Forever only Dwarves learn Desperate Prayer and Humans get Divine Grace. Expect the race quests to work differently in Forever.
Gear, wands and professions
Priests wear cloth only. Early on, anything with Intellect (a bigger Mana pool), Spirit (faster Mana regeneration) or Stamina (more Health) helps. Spell damage and healing on gear make your spells stronger, and Forever raised how much many Priest spells gain from them: Smite rank 1 went from 0.123 to 0.429 of your spell damage, and Heal rank 1 from 0.729 to 0.857 of your healing.
- Weapon: a staff, or a one-handed mace or dagger with an off-hand item. Choose it for its stats, not its damage, since you'll rarely hit anything with it. Dwarves get their mace critical strike bonus on spells too.
- Wand: upgrade it often, because it does much of your finishing. In Classic's data, Sable Wand is a reward from the Alliance quest Underground Assault and Sizzle Stick from the quest Deviate Eradication; for the late 20s, Thunderwood (needs level 22) is a world drop and Wand of Eventide (needs level 27) drops from Dragonmaw Battlemaster and Nal'taszar. Forever may have changed all of these.
- Crafted cloth: Forever adds new Tailoring recipes such as Filigreed Shadow Gown and Filigreed Pristine Gown (level 15) and Filigreed Shadow Leggings (level 20).
Gear at 30
Tailoring covers most slots on the way to 30. For Discipline and Holy, the Forever client's recipes include Pristine Gown (needs level 22), Pristine Leggings and Truefaith Gloves (level 25) and Gilded Slippers (level 30); for Shadow, Shadow Gown (level 22), Hands of Darkness (level 24), Filigreed Shadow Circlet and Shadow Leggings (level 25) and Black Slippers (level 30). Enchanting makes Orb of Souls, an off-hand item for level 25. In Classic's data, Death Speaker Jargba in Razorfen Kraul drops Death Speaker Robes, Death Speaker Mantle and Death Speaker Scepter, three strong caster pieces for the late 20s; Forever may have changed the drops.
The Priest dungeon guide lists the best items for each slot at 20 and 30 and where they come from, and the gear planner lets you try combinations.
Any profession works, and Professions explains them all. Priest-friendly picks:
- Tailoring: cloth drops from the Humanoids you kill anyway, and Tailoring turns it into armor you can wear.
- Enchanting: makes wands such as Lesser Magic Wand and Greater Magic Wand, and pairs well with Tailoring. Blizzard's 1 October notes say crafted common and uncommon wands now sell to vendors for only 1 copper, so make them to use, not to sell.
- Herbalism and Alchemy: Alchemy makes Mana potions such as Minor Mana Potion (level 5), which restores 140 to 180 mana, and Lesser Mana Potion (level 14).
Groups and dungeons
Groups always want a healer. The builds page has dungeon healing builds at 20 and 30 for Discipline (Shield Healer for Dungeons, then Shield and Penance Healer) and Holy (Renew and Heal Dungeon Healer, then Holy Healer with Binding Heal), and low-threat Shadow builds if you'd rather deal damage. Healing basics:
- Shield the tank (the player who holds the mobs' attention) with Power Word: Shield as each pull starts, then keep Renew on them.
- Heal with Heal when you can see damage coming, and save Flash Heal for sudden drops: at rank 1, Heal restores 270 to 312 for 155 mana and Flash Heal 174 to 214 for 125 mana.
- Top up small damage with Lesser Heal or Renew.
- From level 30, Prayer of Healing heals the whole party at once. It's your most expensive heal, so keep it for when most of the group is hurt.
- Buff everyone with Power Word: Fortitude before the first pull, and put Fear Ward on the tank before an enemy that fears.
- If a mob turns on you, use Fade and step toward the tank so they can take it back.
- Remove harmful magic with Dispel Magic and diseases with Cure Disease, and use Resurrection on anyone who dies once the fight is over.
- Shackle Undead keeps one undead enemy out of a fight.
- A Priest has no interrupt except Shadow's row 5 talent Silence, so unless you've taken it, leave interrupts to others.
Dungeons within reach by 20 include Ragefire Chasm, The Hall of Thanes, the Ruins of Lordaeron, the Deadmines, Wailing Caverns and Shadowfang Keep. Between 20 and 30, Blizzard's list of open beta dungeons adds The Stockade, Blackfathom Deeps, Gnomeregan, Razorfen Kraul and Scarlet Monastery, and the 1 October build opened three more: Excavation Site: Wetlands, a new five-player dungeon Blizzard lists for levels 26 to 31, Razorfen Downs (Blizzard: 25+) and Uldaman (Blizzard: 30+). Each page lists its bosses and quests. The Priest dungeon guide goes deeper on healing, and Your first dungeon covers finding a group and what to expect.
Dungeon quests now reward 50% less extra experience beyond normal quest values. Blizzard, WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, 1 October
Blizzard made that change because testers were leveling too fast, so dungeon quests are still worth doing, but they no longer carry you through the 20s on their own.
Common beginner mistakes
- Casting Smite until you're out of Mana. Use Shadow Word: Pain and your wand, and drink before the next pull.
- Forgetting your shield. A Power Word: Shield before every pull prevents most interrupted casts.
- Opening with Mind Blast in a group. It causes a lot of threat; give the tank a few seconds first.
- Using your biggest heal for everything. Small damage needs Renew or a low rank of Lesser Heal, not Heal.
- Using Psychic Scream next to other mobs. Fleeing enemies can bring friends back.
- Letting buffs drop. Power Word: Fortitude lasts 1 hour and Inner Fire 10 min or 20 hits, so check both before each pull.
- Fighting in melee range. You're a caster: pull from range and let the mob come to you.
- Expecting spell power gear to boost your wand. In Forever it no longer does.
- Skipping trainer visits in the 20s. Every even level from 22 to 30 brings new ranks, and old ranks fall behind quickly.
- Leaving race spells off your bars. Your race's two special spells cover situations the rest of your kit can't.
What Forever changed for Priests
- Each Priest race has two spells of its own, taught by the trainer at 10 and 20. Five of them are new: Confounding Flash and Contingency Plan (Gnome), Divine Grace (Human), Chastise (Dwarf) and Dark Sacrifice (Undead).
- Gnome Priests are a new race and class combination.
- Fear Ward and Devouring Plague are no longer race spells: every Priest learns them at level 20.
- Former Season of Discovery abilities are now talents: Binding Heal in Holy from level 25 and Penance in Discipline at level 30, both within the current cap, and Prayer of Mending in Holy at level 40, above it. The talent teaches rank 1 and the trainer sells the higher ranks.
- Litany of Light is a new Holy talent at level 30 that returns Mana when your heal is a different spell from your previous one, and Devouring Contagion is a new Shadow talent at level 30 that makes Devouring Plague cheaper and spreads it when its target dies.
- Divine Spirit is no longer a talent: every Priest learns it from the trainer at level 30.
- The talent window is new too. Talents such as Twin Disciplines, Power in Light, Holy Precision and Improved Mind Flay are new, while Unbreakable Will, Improved Power Word: Fortitude, Force of Will and Improved Vampiric Embrace are gone.
- Many spells gain more from spell damage and healing but start lower: Holy Fire rank 1 deals 51 to 65 instead of Classic's 78 to 98, and Heal rank 1 heals 270 to 312 instead of 295 to 341.
- Some buffs changed length. Power Word: Fortitude lasts 1 hour instead of Classic's 30 min, and Fear Ward lasts 3 min instead of 10.
- Blizzard's September 24 notes: Renew can now land critical heals, Power Word: Shield can overwrite an existing shield on a target without Weakened Soul, Starshards now resists pushback from Twilight Focus, Contingency Plan can land critical heals, Dark Sacrifice no longer breaks crowd control, and wands no longer gain damage from spell damage.
- Blizzard's 1 October notes (build 1.60.1.70170): Devouring Plague can now land critical strikes, Inner Focus no longer adds its critical chance to periodic effects such as Renew, and Shadow Weaving can no longer fail to apply. They also fixed Shadow Word: Death always benefiting from the Early Demise talent whatever the target's health; both are above the current cap.
- In the same build, Spirit Tap's tooltip now names its second trigger itself: an enemy dying while your Vampiric Embrace is on it.
- Undead Priests: Blizzard's notes say Touch of the Grave now triggers when you cast Shadow Word: Pain, but not from its damage over time.
- The new Cooldown Manager can be tested on Priests. Blizzard lists a known issue where it tracks every Priest spell by default.
