Priest in WoW: Forever: what the datamine says is coming

What the Forever beta client and official posts reveal for Priests: 6 new abilities, 74 new class items.

Speculation. This outlook is built from datamined Forever beta client data (build 1.60.1.70170) and official Blizzard posts. The beta is capped at level 30; anything above that isn't playable yet and can change.

What Blizzard changed this week

From the official WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated September 24 (Kaivax, 2026-09-24):

  • Corrected an issue and now Renew can land critical hits.
  • Power Word: Shield can now always overwrite an existing Power Word: Shield on a target that does not have Weakened Soul.

Gnome

  • Corrected an issue and now Contingency Plan can land critical hits.
  • Confounding Flash now has a cast visual. The casting visual is now more Holy oriented than Arcane and the sounds have been updated to match.

Night Elf

  • Starshards now correctly gains resistance to spell pushback from the Twilight Focus talent.

Undead

  • Dark Sacrifice no longer breaks Crowd Control that breaks on damage.
  • Dark Sacrifice’s tooltip now correctly displays that the Mana gained from the ability scales with Spirit.

New abilities in the client

6 Priest abilities exist in the Forever client but not in Classic Era:

  • Confounding Flash — level 10 — available in the beta now. Confuses up to 5 enemies within 8 yds for 3 sec.
  • Divine Grace — level 10 — available in the beta now. Instantly heals a friendly target below 50% Health for 1269 to 1497 and removes Weakened Soul from that target.
  • Chastise — level 20 — available in the beta now. Chastise the target, causing 272 to 306 Holy damage and Immobilizing them for up to 2 sec.
  • Contingency Plan — level 20 — available in the beta now. Place a Holy ward on an ally for 30 sec.
  • Dark Sacrifice — level 20 — available in the beta now. Cannibalize 1600 of your own Health over 15 sec to gain 1600 (+100% of Spirit) Mana.
  • Shadow Word: Death — level 32 — above the current cap (a former Season of Discovery rune, now a class ability). A word of dark binding that inflicts 434 to 462 Shadow damage to the target.

What levels 31 to 40 bring

Speculation: Blizzard hasn't announced the next level cap or when it comes. Forever's caps have gone up ten levels at a time so far, so this is what levels 31 to 40 hold in the client.

Tuning signals in the spell data

23 Priest spell ranks carry a different spell-power coefficient than in Classic Era. The biggest moves:

Priest-only gear that's new in Forever

Our read (speculation)

Forever's Priest changes cluster between levels 25 and 40. Binding Heal arrives at 25 as a Holy tier 4 talent and Penance at 30 as the Discipline tier 5 talent, both former Season of Discovery runes whose higher ranks the trainer sells, with Shadow Word: Death from the trainer at 32 and Prayer of Mending as Holy's final talent at 40. Add Divine Grace, an instant heal for allies below half health that also clears Weakened Soul, and Litany of Light, a Holy tier 5 talent that returns mana when your heal differs from the previous one, and the design seems to reward mixing heals rather than repeating one.

Leveling Priests should also feel the 23 spell ranks with new spell-power coefficients. Early Smite and Lesser Heal ranks now scale far better from spell power than in Classic Era, and with the Deep Dive recap promising spell power on caster leveling weapons, cheap low ranks could become a sensible downranking choice. Blizzard's notes list Contingency Plan and Confounding Flash under Gnome and Dark Sacrifice under Undead, next to Night Elf's Starshards, so these look like race-specific Priest spells, and Gnome Priests are one of Forever's new race and class combinations.

The talent window itself, rebuilt from the client's trait data, now agrees with the Deep Dive recap about Divine Spirit, which is a trainer spell at 30 rather than a talent, and Lightwell is a trainer spell at 40 as well. Discipline gains Twin Disciplines, Power in Light, Holy Precision, Soul Warding, Renewed Hope and Divine Aegis, Shadow gains Improved Mind Flay, Devouring Contagion and Early Demise, and Silence and Vampiric Embrace no longer compete for the same tier. The catch for Discipline is that Penance needs 20 points in the tiers above it, so a level 30 Discipline priest has every point in that section. The 74 Priest-only items are all PvP-rank pieces at 55 and 60 in two set lines, Raiment with spell power and Investiture with healing power, which looks like separate damage and healing sets.
