The Forever Open: a $50,000 level 30 Horde dueling tournament on the WoW Forever beta
· ForeverDB
A community-run open dueling tournament on the WoW Forever beta: make a new Horde character on the PvP ruleset by October 4, get it to level 30, and duel on October 17 and 18 for a $50,000 prize pool. It isn't a Blizzard event.
The Forever Open is an open-registration dueling tournament on the World of Warcraft: Forever beta, with a $50,000 prize pool. It was announced by Tips Out, who ran the Classic Duelers League, and it will be streamed on Esfand's and Xaryu's Twitch channels. It's a community event, not a Blizzard one: its own rules say World of Warcraft dueling "is not an officially supported Blizzard esport". Everything below comes from the tournament's official rules.
Key dates
- September 27: registration opens at 11am PT (1pm CT, 8pm CEST) on Raider.IO.
- October 4: registration closes at 11am PT (1pm CT, 8pm CEST).
- October 17: online check-in on Raider.IO, then the qualifiers.
- October 18: the finals.
How to enter
- Make a brand new Horde character on the PvP ruleset of the WoW Forever beta. Characters made before registration opened (September 27, 11am PT) can't enter.
- Give it the last name Foreverpvp; it's required.
- Register the character on Raider.IO.
- Log in and ask for an invite to the guild <The Forever Open> from Admin Foreverpvp, Bog Foreverpvp, Prestige One, Admin Musashi or Magetea Foreverpvp.
- Level it to 30 before October 17, and bring the 15 gold entry fee. You can register more characters while registration is open, but you play only one in the tournament.
Prize pool
- $25,000 to the champion, who is crowned Death's Duelist.
- The other $25,000 is split evenly between the best player of each class: $2,777 for each of the nine classes. If players tie for their class, they share it.
Format
- Levelling: from September 27 to October 17, get your new character to level 30 and prepare.
- Qualifiers (October 17): open to every registered, checked-in level 30 player who paid the entry fee. The organisers will publish the qualifier format at least a week before.
- Finals (October 18): the top four players of each class meet in a bracket of best-of-five duels.
Rules worth knowing before you level
- All baseline class abilities and class buffs are allowed. Buffs from other players only count if they last 2 minutes or more, so no Power Word: Shield unless you're the Priest.
- Consumables are allowed, except Magic Dust and every Fire, Nature, Frost, Arcane, Holy and Shadow protection potion, and holiday buffs and consumables. A banned item can't even be in your bags during an inspection.
- You keep one talent build per stage (qualifiers and finals), sent in at least 24 hours before the stage starts. Legacy points are allowed.
- You must stream your own duels on Twitch, YouTube or Kick and keep the recording.
- Duels start 20 yards apart with no mounting, after a 10-second countdown; 60 seconds of inactivity is a delay-of-game penalty, and leaving or fleeing a duel means disqualification.
- You can't leave the dueling area (not even to repair), and you can be offline for 3 minutes at most. Warlocks can leave once to get shards, after checking in with an admin.
The level 30 question
The beta is still capped at level 20. Blizzard expects to raise it to 30 around mid-October, before the qualifiers, and ForeverDB will switch its pages to the new cap the day it happens.
Getting ready with ForeverDB
- The best race for your class: Horde means Orc, Undead, Tauren, Troll or Skyborne, and 26 of Classic's 32 racials changed in Forever.
- Talent calculator for any level, and the Legacy calculator for the perks the rules allow.
- Consumables for level 30, minus the banned protection potions and Magic Dust.
- Trainers and weapon skills: where Horde weapon masters and class trainers stand.
