Mage training costs at Maginor Dumas look about 11% higher, players' addons report

· ForeverDB
On 6 October players' ForeverDB addons recorded higher training costs for five of Maginor Dumas's Mage spells in Stormwind, each about 11% above what players had seen earlier (the earlier prices were exactly 10% lower). Blizzard hasn't announced it, and we can't read trainer costs from the client files.
Player reports, not confirmed by Blizzard. These prices are what players' ForeverDB addons saw in the game on 6 October. They are not datamined, not something we can read from the beta client's files, and not from a Blizzard post.
Maginor Dumas (NPC 331) is the Master Mage in the Wizard's Sanctum, in Stormwind's Mage Quarter, and a mage trainer players use on the Forever beta. On 6 October two players' addons (one of them with an account, across six uploads) recorded higher training costs for five of his spells than players had seen earlier the same day.
What players' addons saw
- Conjure Mana Agate Conjure Mana Agate: 63s up to 70s
- Conjure Mana Jade Conjure Mana Jade: 1g 26s up to 1g 40s
- Conjure Mana Citrine Conjure Mana Citrine: 2g 52s up to 2g 80s
- Conjure Mana Ruby Conjure Mana Ruby: 3g 60s up to 4g
- Counterspell Counterspell: 36s up to 40s
Each new price is the old one plus one ninth, about 11% more. Put the other way round, the earlier figures are exactly 90% of the later ones, a flat 10% gap across all five spells.
What it might mean
Speculation. Because the gap is an exact flat 10% on every spell, this could be Blizzard nudging these training costs up in a server-side change, or it could be that the lower figures carried a reputation standing discount that the higher ones did not. We can't tell which from the client files.
Trainer costs are set on Blizzard's servers, so the game files we publish don't carry the per-spell price a trainer charges. The Forever trainer data we hold lists weapon-skill costs, not these spell costs. That means we can only report what players' addons saw, the same way skinning loot could only be reported from player accounts, not read from the files.
We'll update this page if a new build or a Blizzard post confirms a change to Mage training costs. See the Mage class page for the full spell list and costs we track.
