Players report a hotfix: Joshua Kien's starter throwing weapons are cheaper to buy

The The Hall of Thanes loading screen from the WoW Forever client

· ForeverDB

Two players' ForeverDB addons saw the vendor Joshua Kien selling the Small Throwing Knife and Crude Throwing Axe for 15 copper instead of 42 copper on 7 October. Blizzard hasn't listed this anywhere.

Player reports, not confirmed by Blizzard. These prices are what players' ForeverDB addons saw at the vendor in the game, not the client's files and not a Blizzard post.

On 7 October two players (one with an account) uploaded the same thing twice through their ForeverDB addons: the vendor Joshua Kien was selling two basic thrown weapons for less than before. The buy price on each had dropped from 42 copper to 15 copper. Because the addon reads the price straight from the vendor window in the game, this reads as a server-side hotfix rather than a client change.

What's in the client

Both items are in the Forever beta client. Small Throwing Knife and Crude Throwing Axe are item level 3 thrown weapons, usable from level 1, with 1-3 damage and a 2.0 second speed, and they sell back to a vendor for 8 copper. The client stores each item's buy price, 42c for both, so the old price matches the client's files and the 15c figure comes from players standing at the vendor in the game.

Who Joshua Kien is

In Classic Era, Joshua Kien is a Forsaken general goods vendor at Deathknell in Tirisfal Glades, the Undead starting area, and he sells starter thrown weapons to new characters. These two weapons are among the cheapest a new melee or ranged character can throw, so the price mainly matters to low-level players stocking up (Warcraft Wiki: Joshua Kien).

Speculation. The 15 copper price may bring these starter weapons back in line with a lower intended cost; the Forever client had them selling higher at 42 copper. We can't confirm the reason, and Blizzard hasn't mentioned this in any development notes we track.

It's a small change, but a real one for new characters. Players have also reported the same 42c to 15c cut at other vendors, among them Brother Danil. We'll update this page if Blizzard lists it in a build's notes.
