It depends on your faction and spec. ForeverDB's best race for each class (https://foreverdb.net/launch/which-race) lists the picks, and every racial is on the races page (https://foreverdb.net/races). Forever reworked most racials, so Classic advice does not carry over.

Alliance:
- Human gives a flat 2% critical strike with any weapon (Ruthless, no longer sword only), instantly breaks all stuns (Will to Survive), and spots stealthed Rogues (Perception).
- Night Elf is harder to detect in Stealth and adds 1% dodge with 2% movement speed (Quickness), a 10% crit burst (Elune's Light), and a second vanish from Shadowmeld.
- Gnome makes your next 3 damaging abilities cost 10% less Energy and hit 10% harder, and escapes snares and roots (Escape Artist).
Horde:
- Orc raises Attack Power and Spell Power by 10% for 15 sec (Blood Fury), shortens stuns by 20% (Hardiness), and adds a flat 1% critical strike with any weapon (Savage).
- Undead removes Charm, Fear and Sleep (Will of the Forsaken) and drains a little Health as you hit (Touch of the Grave).
- Troll raises attack and casting speed by 10% (Berserking) and regenerates half your Health over 6 sec out of combat (Regeneration).
No race is uniquely best for Ambush; pick for your spec and whether you PvP.
