Warlocks
Masters of fel magic who bind demons to their will. Useful, powerful and feared by everyone, including their allies, and in Year 1 the scars of what warlocks did to the orcs are still fresh.
Who can be one, and where they learn
Alliance: Human, Gnome. Horde: Orc, Undead, Troll (new in Forever).
Trainers (Classic's data) in Ironforge, Stormwind City, Orgrimmar, Undercity.
Class quests: Piercing the Veil (level 1, teaches Summon Imp, Classic's quest); The Binding (level 10, teaches Summon Voidwalker, Classic's quest); Kroshius' Infernal Core (level 50, teaches Inferno, Classic's quest); Suppression (level 60, teaches Ritual of Doom, Classic's quest).
The client's character-creation text: Warlocks are the bane of all life. Empowered by demonic blood, they can inflict great torment upon their foes. To replenish the dreadful energy their spells expend, warlocks drain vitality from their victims. The warlock can also summon and control terrifying demonic entities. Still, warlocks are feared above all else for their singular wickedness and cruelty.
Who they are
Warlocks trade in the magic of the Burning Legion itself: curses, shadow and fire, drained life and summoned demons. The client doesn't soften it.

Their place in Azeroth now
Every capital tolerates its warlocks, usually in its darkest corner. A warlock's career is a series of bargains: the class quests below bind an imp and a voidwalker early on, and much greater demons later. In Durotar the Burning Blade cult shows what happens when a warlock's hunger wins.
Warcraft background: Orc warlocks, led by Gul'dan and the Shadow Council, sold their people to the Burning Legion and drank demon blood, which turned the orcs into the bloodthirsty Horde of the First and Second Wars. Human warlocks are usually renegade mages; the Forsaken's warlocks serve the Dark Lady; the gnomes' come from the more reckless end of Gnomish curiosity.
In WoW Forever
In WoW Forever: Trolls can now be warlocks, one of the six new race and class combinations. For the Darkspear, who already bargain with spirits and the loa, a demon may be just another spirit. The orcs, who remember where warlocks led them, may disagree.
RP hooks and character ideas
- One of Forever's first troll warlocks, who treats their imp like a loa and makes their orc friends very nervous.
- An orc warlock who insists they can use the fel without repeating their parents' mistakes.
- A human renegade thrown out of the mages' circles, looking for a patron who asks fewer questions.
- A Forsaken warlock for whom the fel is just another tool against the Scourge.
- A warlock whose voidwalker is the only companion they trust.
- A gnome warlock who wants a demon to help retake Gnomeregan, and hasn't told anyone.
