Blizzard explains PvP in WoW Forever: Honor, Rank Points, a weekly cap and gear rewards

· ForeverDB
Blizzard has posted how PvP progression works in WoW Forever. You earn Honor and Rank Points from battlegrounds and PvP quests, climb the original ranks towards High Warlord and Grand Marshal behind a weekly cap, and spend Honor on blue and epic gear sets gated by rank.
On October 7 Blizzard published a post explaining how PvP progression works in WoW Forever. It describes a system built on two things you earn, Honor and Rank Points, plus seasonal tasks and gear you buy as you climb the ranks. Below is what the post says and what it means for players.
This is a Blizzard design post about the beta. The system can still change before launch, and PvP rewards are handled on Blizzard's servers, so the exact figures below come from the post, not the beta client files.
Blizzard frames the whole thing as a lighter take on the original Honor System:
When reimagining the PvP system, we wanted to keep the design pillar of “Approachable and Familiar” firmly in view: simplifying the original Honor System while staying true to its roots. Blizzard Entertainment, Blizzard News
Honor and Rank Points
Progression has two parts. Honor is a currency you earn from PvP: killing other players, finishing battlegrounds and completing relevant PvP quests. Rank Points come from PvP activities such as battlegrounds and relevant PvP quests, and they are what move you up the ranks. Highlighted battlegrounds during their holiday weeks pay out extra Honor and extra Rank Points.
Blizzard says it has levelled out how much Honor each battleground gives, so one map is no longer the obvious choice:
We want players to enjoy the full range of battleground maps without feeling compelled to choose Alterac Valley solely for Honor efficiency. Blizzard Entertainment, Blizzard News
As you earn Rank Points you advance through the familiar ranks from the original game, working towards the top titles of High Warlord for the Horde or Grand Marshal for the Alliance. The ranks keep a weekly cap, which Blizzard says retains the foundation of the original system while making the climb more accessible. The post does not give the size of the cap or how many Rank Points each rank needs.
Gear you buy with Honor
Honor buys two sets of PvP gear: one blue-quality set and one epic-quality set. The epic set is an upgrade of the blue one:
The epic set requires the blue piece plus an Emboldened Seal to upgrade it, and Emboldened Seals have rank requirements players must reach before purchasing. Blizzard Entertainment, Blizzard News
Blizzard also says it has added new and reworked items to cover specs that had gaps before. The example it gives is Shaman:
For example, Shaman now have healer, melee, and caster PvP gear sets they can acquire. Blizzard Entertainment, Blizzard News
What each rank unlocks
The post lists the rank you need to reach before you can buy each reward:
- Rank 1 - Tabard
- Rank 2 - PvP Trinket
- Rank 3 - Cloaks
- Rank 4 - Necklace
- Rank 5 - Combat Potions
- Rank 6 - Tabard
- Rank 7 - Battle Standard
- Rank 8 - Epic Bracers/Epic Belt Upgrade Token
- Rank 9 - Epic Boots Upgrade Token
- Rank 10 - Epic Gloves Upgrade Token
- Rank 11 - Mounts
- Rank 12 - Epic Legs/Epic Shoulders Upgrade Token
- Rank 13 - Epic Chest/Epic Helm Upgrade Token
- Rank 14 - Epic Weapons
The upgrade tokens from rank 8 onward line up with the Emboldened Seals above: you reach the rank, then use the token to turn a blue piece into its epic version. Blizzard says you can check your progress on the Player vs. Player tab of the Character Pane, which shows your rank, your current Rank Points and which rewards you can buy.
PvP Seasons, weekly tasks and Legacy Points
Each PvP season runs a journey of weekly tasks. Completing them grants Honor and Rank Points, giving you a steady way to make progress beyond battlegrounds alone. Blizzard adds that three tasks each season also grant a Legacy Point, and because the tasks are tied to the Legacy System they stay available to complete in later seasons:

Wowhead also summarised the post. The details above all come from Blizzard's own article.
