How to add the ForeverDB bot to your Discord server
Step by step: add the free ForeverDB bot to your server in under a minute, try your first lookup, then set up news, the group finder and your guild's calendar. Last checked 6 October 2026.
Add ForeverDB to your Discord server · What the bot does
Before you start
- You need the Manage Server permission on the server. The server's owner and admins have it; if you don't, send this page to one of them.
- It's free and needs no ForeverDB account. It works the same in the Discord app, in a browser and on your phone.
Add the bot
- Open the Discord bot page and press Add to Discord. Discord opens (the app, or discord.com in your browser); log in if it asks.
- Under Add to server, pick your server, then press Continue. A server that isn't in the list is one where you don't have Manage Server.
- Discord shows the permissions the bot asks for: View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links and Use Application Commands, and Manage Events, which is optional: only the guild calendar's mirror into your server's Events tab uses it, so untick it if you don't want that. Press Authorize.
- Tick the "I am human" box if Discord shows one. You'll see Authorized: ForeverDB is in your server.
Try it
In any channel, type /item and a name, for example /item Shadowfang, and press Enter. The bot answers with a card like the game's tooltip, where to get the item and a link to its ForeverDB page. Names fill in as you type.
Some others to try: /spell Fireball, /quest The Defias Brotherhood, /npc Hogger, /dungeon The Deadmines, /boss Edwin VanCleef, /talent Improved Fireball, or ask a question with /ask how do I get to Stormwind from Darnassus. /help lists everything.
Tip: The first time, Discord can take a minute to show the bot's commands. If typing / doesn't show ForeverDB yet, press Ctrl+R (Cmd+R on a Mac) to reload Discord, or close and reopen the app.
Optional: news in a channel
- Make a channel for it, for example #forever-news.
- In any channel, type
/news subscribe channel:#forever-newsand press Enter. - From now on the bot posts new ForeverDB articles, Blizzard's official posts, new finds in the game files and each new game build's patch notes there as they come out. To leave one out, set it to False in the same command, for example
datamine:False. /news listshows which channels get news, and/news unsubscribestops it./patchnotesposts the newest build's patch notes in the channel you're in, any time.
Optional: the group finder
/lfg subscribe channel:#lfg posts new group finder posts in a channel, and you can filter them by region, realm and faction. Members post their own with /lfg post (they link their ForeverDB account once with /link) and see what's open with /lfg list.
Optional: your guild's calendar
- An officer opens guild tools, then Settings, Discord bot, and copies the code.
- In the channel where events should appear, someone with Manage Server types
/guild link code:followed by the code. - Every new event is posted there with sign-up buttons (Accept, Tentative, Late, Bench, Absent) and a role menu, and it updates as people sign up, in Discord or on ForeverDB.
- Members link their Discord account once: Link Discord on your profile gives a code, then
/link code:in Discord. - Officers can then plan events from Discord with
/event create(a form, times in realm time), change them with/event editand cancel them with/event cancel; members see the next two weeks with/calendar. - Optional, in guild tools, Settings, Discord bot: tick Live calendar card for a pinned message with the next 14 days, and Mirror events to Discord's Events tab to show the events in the server's Events tab too (events made there come back to the site within about five minutes). The mirror needs the bot's Manage Events permission: if you unticked it, add the bot again from the Discord bot page or give it in Server Settings, Roles.
Choose where the commands work
By default everyone can use the bot in every channel it can see. To limit it, open Server Settings, Integrations, ForeverDB, Manage: there you can turn single commands off, or allow them only in some channels or for some roles.
If something doesn't work
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Your server isn't in the Add to server list | You don't have Manage Server there. Ask the owner or an admin to add the bot, or to give you the permission. |
Typing / doesn't show ForeverDB | Reload Discord (Ctrl+R). Check Server Settings, Integrations, ForeverDB: the commands may be turned off for that channel or role. The channel also needs Use Application Commands for @everyone. |
| "The application did not respond" | The site was restarting for an update. Try again in a minute. If it keeps happening, tell us which command you used. |
| News or group finder posts don't arrive | The bot needs View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links in that channel. Open the channel's settings, Permissions, add ForeverDB and allow those three. |
| The bot isn't in the member list | That's fine: it only answers commands and posts to the channels you picked, so it doesn't need to be shown as online. |
Remove the bot
Server Settings, Integrations, ForeverDB, Remove. Everything stops at once, and its news and group finder subscriptions for your server pause by themselves.
Privacy
The bot only sees its own commands, never your server's messages. What it keeps (the channel IDs for news, and a salted one-way code of your Discord ID if you link your account) is on the Discord bot page and in the privacy policy.
