A hidden boss, Lyn the Ignored, turns up in the City of Dalaran dungeon

Players say a secret boss in the City of Dalaran sewers, Lyn the Ignored, is summoned with a tome built through a chain that starts at Archmage Arugal in Shadowfang Keep. The boss and the items in the chain are in the Forever beta client, and the tome's own text confirms the Ambermill step.

The new City of Dalaran dungeon has a hidden boss. Wowhead reports that Lyn the Ignored sits in a room in the Dalaran sewers that otherwise looks like a dead end, and that you reach it through a chain of steps that begins in another dungeon, Shadowfang Keep.

The discovery and the step-by-step method below are player reports, gathered by Wowhead, not a Blizzard change or statement. Where the client files confirm a step, we say so.

What the client confirms

The boss is real in the beta client. In the dungeon's data Lyn the Ignored is the seventh of nine encounters in the City of Dalaran. We have no fight logs for it yet, which fits a boss most groups never trigger.

Two items in the chain are in the client as well. Black Tome is a bind-on-pickup item whose use text reads, word for word, "Use at the Ambermill Leyline Focus to create the Tome of Dalaran." Ambermill is the village in south-east Silverpine Forest held by Dalaran's mages; the Leyline Focus is at about 63.4, 64.3. Using the Black Tome casts Create Tome of Dalaran, a 3 second cast called Create Tome of Dalaran.

That produces Tome of Dalaran, the Tome of Dalaran. Its use casts Ritual burn, a 3 second cast with a 20 yard range and a summon effect. That matches the report that the tome summons the boss, and that its cast is short.

The chain, as players describe it

Wowhead lays out the steps like this:

  • In Shadowfang Keep, defeat Archmage Arugal, then click a new interactive book that appears on his table. This puts a Black Tome in your bags.
  • Take the Black Tome to Ambermill in Silverpine Forest and use it at the leyline focus there to make the Tome of Dalaran. The item's own text confirms this step.
  • In the City of Dalaran dungeon, carry the tome to the ominous room in the sewers that had seemed like a dead end, and use it there to summon Lyn the Ignored.

Wowhead adds that the Tome of Dalaran is not consumed when used. The client can't settle that either way, so treat it as the report says.

The Shadowfang Keep step (Arugal's book giving the Black Tome) and the summon in the sewers are reported by players; the client confirms the items, the Ambermill step and the summon cast, but not where the Black Tome first comes from.

Why it matters

The City of Dalaran only opened for testing on October 8. A hidden boss tied to an older dungeon gives groups a reason to run both, and a reason to keep the tome once they have it. We'll add Lyn the Ignored's abilities and loot to our dungeon page as players' logs come in. Blizzard has not posted about this boss.
