Warlock in WoW: Forever: what the datamine says is coming

· ForeverDB

What the Forever beta client and official posts reveal for Warlocks: 4 new abilities, 4 reworked talent slots, 37 new class items.

Speculation. This outlook is built from datamined Forever beta client data (build 1.60.1.70009) and official Blizzard posts. The beta is capped at level 20; anything above that isn't playable yet and can change.

What Blizzard changed this week

From the official WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated September 24 (Kaivax, 2026-09-24):

  • Tooltip of Life Tap has been updated to correctly display the amount of Life converted, and only states that it scales with Spirit.
  • Voidwalker Sacrifice now correctly scales with 10% of the Warlock’s spell healing.

New abilities in the client

4 Warlock abilities exist in the Forever client but not in Classic Era:

  • Bane of Havoc — level 1 — available in the beta now. Afflicts the target for 5 min, causing 15% of all damage done by the Warlock to other targets to also be dealt to the cursed target.
  • Curse of the Elements — level 20 — available in the beta now. Curses the target for 5 min, reducing Magic resistances by 75 and increases Magic damage taken by 10%.
  • Incinerate — level 40 — above the current cap (a former Season of Discovery rune, now a class ability). Deals 201 to 233 Fire damage to your target and an additional 25% damage if the target is afflicted by Immolate.
  • Wrack — level 40 — above the current cap. Tears the target apart from within, dealing 36 Shadow damage every 1 sec and increasing the damage they take from your other Shadow damage over time effects by 10%.

What the level 30 cap should unlock

Talent trees

  • 4 talent slots (Affliction tier 2, Affliction tier 4, Affliction tier 7, Demonology tier 3) point to spells that have no record in the client. The talent is still in the tree, but its name and effect are defined server-side, which usually means it was reworked.

Tuning signals in the spell data

21 Warlock spell ranks carry a different spell-power coefficient than in Classic Era. The biggest moves:

Warlock-only gear that's new in Forever

Our read (speculation)

The biggest structural change is the split between Banes and Curses. The client's tooltips for Bane of Agony, Bane of Doom and the new level 1 Bane of Havoc each allow only one Bane per Warlock on a target, while Curse of the Elements, now trainable at 20, says the same about Curses, which suggests a Warlock could keep one of each on a target. Bane of Doom's spell-power coefficient also jumps from 1.0 to 4.0, the largest of the 21 Warlock coefficient changes, which could turn it from a niche pick into real damage on long fights.

Affliction carries most of the uncertainty: three of the four server-side talent slots are in its tree, at tiers 2, 4 and 7, with the fourth in Demonology tier 3. The tier 2 and 3 slots are reachable at the current cap, tier 4 opens at 25 and the tier 7 capstone at 40. Wrack, a new level 40 Shadow spell that makes your other Shadow damage-over-time effects hit harder, is already named in Affliction talents such as Soul Siphon and Nightfall in the client, so we'd expect it to be central to Affliction later.

At 30, Summon Felhunter and Hellfire arrive, Banish comes at 28, and tier 5 opens talents such as Siphon Life, Curse of Exhaustion, Demonic Sacrifice and Ruin. Incinerate, a former Season of Discovery rune, becomes a level 40 trainer spell, and the client's Bane talent already shortens its cast. This week's notes were light: Life Tap's tooltip now says it scales with Spirit, and Voidwalker Sacrifice scales with 10% of spell healing. Troll Warlocks are one of Forever's new race and class combinations.
