Reports: WoW Forever's GDKP ban said to cover only NA and EU realms

· ForeverDB
Several creators report, from a 4Gamers Taiwan interview, that Forever's GDKP ban applies only to North America and Europe. Blizzard's own forum posts we track cover gold buying and RMT but never name GDKP or any region, and a player loot convention like GDKP does not appear in the game files.
Speculation. This rests on community reports and a translated interview, not on Blizzard's forum or Bluesky posts that we track, and not on the game files. We have not seen the regional claim in any Blizzard post. Treat it as unconfirmed until Blizzard says it in a post of its own.
What the reports claim
GDKP (Gold DKP) is a player-run raid loot system: instead of rolling, players bid gold on drops, and the pot is split among the group at the end. It is a social convention, not a game button.
Wowhead reports that, in an interview with 4Gamers Taiwan, Blizzard said Forever's GDKP ban applies only to North America and Europe; that much is in Wowhead's headline. The developer's name and the line about other regions come from Inven Global's account of the same written interview, published on 8 October, which names Clay Stone, associate production director, and has him say GDKP will remain permitted in other regions. We could not read the body of Wowhead's article or the original 4Gamers interview ourselves, so we are not quoting the developers word for word; we are only relaying what the report says they said.
The same claim is going round other creators:
- Forevernews WoW lists "the GDKP ban only covers NA and EU" as one of its top beta stories for October 10.
- A Blizzard forum thread, "So GDKP is only banned for NA and EU?", picks up the same interview.
- Dooki Gaming covers the wider gold-buying and RMT enforcement drama, including enforcement consistency and ban transparency.
Player and creator reports, not a Blizzard post or a change we can see in the files. The videos are opinion and commentary as much as reporting.
What Blizzard has actually posted
In the Blizzard posts we track, there is no post that names GDKP, and none that mentions North America, Europe or any other region in this context. What Blizzard has posted is about real money transactions (RMT) and gold buying in general. On September 28, Kaivax posted Gold buying rules:
Real money transactions (RMT) are not acceptable in World of Warcraft, and we’re taking steps to address RMT in the WoW: Forever Beta, and of course, when WoW: Forever goes live and beyond. Kaivax, Community Manager
On October 1, Kaivax posted Actions Taken Against Botting and RMT, announced an in-game warning when you trade with strangers, and restated the stance:
Our stance on RMT in World of Warcraft is crystal clear: any account belonging to any player that is found to have participated in generating, selling, buying, or receiving illicit gold is subject to the gold being removed, account suspensions, or permanent account closures. Kaivax, Community Manager
Neither post mentions GDKP, and neither says anything about the ban being limited to NA and EU. The reports above tie GDKP to RMT because gold bought with real money can flow through a GDKP pot, but that link is the creators' framing, not wording from these posts.
What's confirmed and what isn't
Confirmed, because it comes from Blizzard's own posts or the client data:
- Blizzard says RMT is not acceptable and that it will action buyers' accounts, not only sellers', up to permanent closure (the two posts above).
- An in-game warning when you trade with strangers was announced on October 1.
- The beta client still has 9 playable classes and 10 playable races (see below).
Not confirmed, because we have not seen it in any Blizzard post or in the files:
- That the GDKP ban applies only to North America and Europe.
- That GDKP is allowed in any other region.
- Any Blizzard post that names GDKP at all. The ban itself is widely reported from interviews, but it is not in the posts we track, so we cannot quote Blizzard on it here.
What the Forever client says
Nothing in the game files can settle this. GDKP is a player loot convention run inside normal trading and group loot, and RMT enforcement is account policy decided on Blizzard's side. Neither is a spell, item or rule stored in the client, so the files cannot confirm or deny a regional ban. What the client does hold is the basic character record, unchanged by any of this:
- 9 playable classes: Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior.
- 10 playable races: Dwarf, Gnome, High Order Skyborne, Human, Night Elf, Orc, Tauren, Troll, Undead, Windshaper Skyborne.
What it means for players
If you play on a North American or European realm, treat GDKP as banned, as the interviews report, and gold buying as a fast way to lose your account; only the gold-buying part is backed by Blizzard's posts. The claim that other regions are treated differently comes from one interview, passed through other sites. It may well be accurate, but until Blizzard posts it plainly, do not plan around it. We will update this page if a Blizzard post names GDKP or a region.
