Blizzard has announced Early Name Reservations for WoW: Forever, running from October 27 through November 3. Eligible players can reserve names for up to three characters total, counted across every ruleset.

Blizzard has announced Early Name Reservations for World of Warcraft: Forever. They run from October 27 through November 3, and let eligible players pick and hold the names for up to three characters before launch. Blizzard posted the details in Claim Your World of Warcraft: Forever Character Names.

This is a beta-period announcement. Names are first come, first served, and Blizzard says a desired name cannot be guaranteed.

When it starts

The window opens at different times by region:

  • Europe: October 27 at 18:00 CET
  • North America: October 27 at 1:00 p.m. PDT
  • Korea: October 28 at 07:00 KST
  • Taiwan: October 28 at 07:00 CST

It closes for everyone on November 3.

Three names, shared across all rulesets

The three-character limit is the main thing to plan around. It is a total across every ruleset, not three per ruleset. Blizzard's words:

During the reservation period, eligible players* can create and reserve names for up to three characters total across all Rulesets. This means that if you create two on a PvP Ruleset, you’ll only be able to create one more character in a Normal or Role-Play Ruleset. This restriction only applies to Early Name Reservation. Blizzard Entertainment, official announcement

So if you spread your three reservations across rulesets now, you use them up the same way. Blizzard says this cap is only for the reservation period. We cover how rulesets and two-part names work in our rulesets write-up.

Who can reserve

Early Name Reservation is a pre-purchase benefit. Blizzard lists who gets it:

Players who pre-purchase the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack, or limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection will have access to WoW®: Forever Early Name Reservation from October 27 through November 3. Character names will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and desired names cannot be guaranteed. Blizzard Entertainment, official announcement

A footnote adds that purchase of the World of Warcraft: Forever Digital Upgrade or Collector's Edition is required, and that the benefit applies only to the specific WoW account it was bought for.

How to reserve

Blizzard's steps are to update your graphics drivers, install the Battle.net desktop app and let it update, select World of Warcraft, then pick World of Warcraft: Forever from the Game Version menu above the Play button and install it. Once it is installed, select Play, choose your ruleset, and create up to three characters with your chosen names.

For how names themselves work, Blizzard points to its earlier "Create a Name of Your Own in WoW: Forever" article, which we summarised in the rulesets and two-part names piece.
