How WoW Forever's camping system works, and what each profession adds to a campsite

· ForeverDB
Blizzard has published a blog on WoW Forever's Camping system. A Cooking Fire becomes a Basic Campfire where nearby players rest together, and each profession can add one crafted object that grants its own buff or utility. We list the buffs and check the camp items against the beta client.
On 21 October Blizzard published a blog, Gather Around the Campfire in World of Warcraft: Forever, and posted it to the forums. It explains the Camping system, which turns the Cooking profession's Cooking Fire into a shared campsite where players can rest and pick up profession-made buffs. Blizzard described the same system earlier in its Deep Dive Panel Recap. The two posts agree on most of it, with one difference we note below.
The system expands the Cooking profession’s simple Cooking Fire into a Basic Campfire. Once placed, the Basic Campfire creates a shared campsite where nearby players can rest and gain benefits from profession-made camp features before setting out again. Blizzard, Gather Around the Campfire blog
The Basic Campfire Kit is in the beta client as Basic Campfire Kit. A simple quest early on introduces camping, so you meet the system while levelling.
How a campsite works
A Basic Campfire holds up to three crafted objects. Each nearby player can add one, and those objects share a one-hour cooldown. To get the buffs you have to stop and stay a moment, not just run past.
Players sitting or crafting at a campsite for at least 1 minute will gain the benefits from other camp features. This provides an opportunity to get to know your fellow adventurers, and perhaps embark on a journey together. Blizzard, Gather Around the Campfire blog
In the Deep Dive recap Blizzard added that the objects "share a one-hour cooldown" and that "every profession has three different objects learned at different skill levels, and each profession provides its own buff or utility no matter which object is placed."
Which buff each profession's object gives
Blizzard named three stat buffs and three utility objects. All the items below are already in the beta client:
- Blacksmithing places a Sharpening Wheel that increases Strength (Deep Dive recap: Attack Power, see the note below).
- Tailoring places a Faction Banner that increases Spirit.
- Herbalism places an Incense Candle that increases Intellect.
- Alchemy places an Alchemy Laboratory (an "Alchemy Lab" workspace).
- Leatherworking places a Tanning Rack, which is needed for more advanced Leatherworking recipes.
- Cooking learns upgraded campfires: the Journeyman Campfire (Journeyman Campfire Kit) and Expert Campfire (Expert Campfire Kit), which let five or 10 objects be placed at a camp.
The two Blizzard posts disagree on the Sharpening Wheel. The camping blog says it "increases Strength for an hour"; the Deep Dive recap says it "increases Attack Power". Both are Blizzard's own wording. The client settles it: the Sharpening Wheel gives 6 to 34 Strength depending on your level, "mutually exclusive with Strength of Earth Totem".
These camp buffs are copies of buffs that some classes already give, and they do not stack with them. So you can pick up a Spirit or Intellect boost at a campsite even with no mage or other class there, but it will not add on top of the class version.
Blacksmiths, for example, can place a Sharpening Wheel that increases Attack Power, Tailors can place a Faction Banner that increases Spirit, and Herbalists can place an Incense Candle that increases Intellect. These effects are variants of, and do not stack with, buffs normally provided by specific classes. Blizzard, Deep Dive Panel Recap
Where the camp items come from
Blizzard says the first camp items unlock at skill level 20, and the stronger ones drop in dungeons and raids.
Once a profession reaches skill level 20, you can acquire its first campsite items through starter zone quests or purchase them from a profession trainer. Items that require skill level 140 or higher are found through drops in dungeons and raids. Blizzard, Gather Around the Campfire blog
The Deep Dive recap adds that the advanced objects "come from Blueprint recipes that drop from specific dungeon bosses". Those Blueprints are in the client too, including Blueprint: Tanning Rack, Blueprint: Alchemy Laboratory, Blueprint: Journeyman Campfire and Blueprint: Expert Campfire.
More than buffs at a campsite
The Deep Dive recap says a campfire also gives "access to useful benefits such as vendors, repairs, profession workspaces, and one-hour buffs", and is a handy place to top up food buffs. Blizzard also warns that "some parts of Azeroth are better suited for a quiet rest than others".
This is a beta system. Anything here, including the buffs and skill levels, can still change before launch.
