Warlock in WoW: Forever: what the datamine says is coming

What the Forever beta client and official posts reveal for Warlocks: 1 new abilities, 37 new class items.

Speculation. This outlook is built from datamined Forever beta client data (build 1.60.1.70170) and official Blizzard posts. The beta is capped at level 30; anything above that isn't playable yet and can change.

What Blizzard changed this week

From the official WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated September 24 (Kaivax, 2026-09-24):

  • Tooltip of Life Tap has been updated to correctly display the amount of Life converted, and only states that it scales with Spirit.
  • Voidwalker Sacrifice now correctly scales with 10% of the Warlock’s spell healing.

New abilities in the client

1 Warlock abilities exist in the Forever client but not in Classic Era:

  • Curse of the Elements — level 20 — available in the beta now. Curses the target for 5 min, reducing Magic resistances by 75 and increasing Magic damage taken by 10%.

What levels 31 to 40 bring

Speculation: Blizzard hasn't announced the next level cap or when it comes. Forever's caps have gone up ten levels at a time so far, so this is what levels 31 to 40 hold in the client.

Tuning signals in the spell data

21 Warlock spell ranks carry a different spell-power coefficient than in Classic Era. The biggest moves:

Warlock-only gear that's new in Forever

Our read (speculation)

The biggest structural change is the split between Banes and Curses. The client's tooltips for Bane of Agony, Bane of Doom and the new Bane of Havoc talent each allow only one Bane per Warlock on a target, while Curse of the Elements, now trainable at 20, says the same about Curses, which suggests a Warlock could keep one of each on a target. Bane of Doom's spell-power coefficient also jumps from 1.0 to 4.0, the largest of the 21 Warlock coefficient changes, which could turn it from a niche pick into real damage on long fights.

The real Forever talent window reshapes all three specs. Affliction gains Malediction, Improved Drains, Pandemic and Malevolence, and Wrack, a new Shadow spell that makes your other Shadow damage-over-time effects hit harder, is its tier 7 capstone at 40, already named in Nightfall, Soul Siphon, Improved Drains and Fel Concentration. Demonology adds Demonic Energies, Demonic Aegis, Demonic Brand and Improved Felhunter, swaps Demonic Sacrifice's buffs so the Imp gives Shadow damage, and ends in Demonic Pact, which keeps a sacrifice buff when you summon a different demon. Destruction gets Molten Skin, Fire and Brimstone and Shadow and Flame.

Much of that arrives early. Demonic Sacrifice, Ruin and Shadowburn are open at 20, Conflagrate and Curse of Exhaustion at 25, and at 30 tier 5 brings Siphon Life, Soul Link, Demonic Knowledge and Bane of Havoc, alongside Hellfire from the trainer and Summon Felhunter, which Classic's The Binding quest taught. Incinerate, a former Season of Discovery rune, is now the tier 7 Destruction talent at 40, and the Bane talent already shortens its cast. This week's notes were light: Life Tap's tooltip now says it scales with Spirit, and Voidwalker Sacrifice scales with 10% of spell healing. Troll Warlocks are one of Forever's new race and class combinations.
