Group Finder now asks for a playstyle before you can list a group

Since the October 1 beta build, players report that listing a group in the Group Finder needs a playstyle: Learning, Relaxed, Competitive or Carry Offered. The words are in the game files; Blizzard hasn't posted about it.

Players listing a group in the beta's Group Finder since the level 30 build (October 1) have run into a new required choice: a playstyle. Until you pick one, the List button doesn't work, as a player explained in a forum thread started by someone who thought the Group Finder was broken.

The four playstyles

The labels are in the beta client's interface text (GlobalStrings), word for word:

These strings aren't new. They come from the modern game the Forever client is built on, where Blizzard made a playstyle required for Group Finder listings in Midnight, and they have been in every Forever beta build since the first, 1.60.1.70009, with the same text. What changed around October 1 is that the requirement is now switched on. That switch is in the interface code or on the servers, which we don't extract, so the date comes from players: the forum threads below start on October 2.

Reported, not confirmed by Blizzard. That the playstyle is now required, and when that started, comes from players on Blizzard's forums. Blizzard hasn't posted about it in the development notes or answered the threads so far.

What players say

Feedback on the forums has mostly been negative. Threads include LFG Select Playstyle (required) is terrible, Labels in Group Finder, Group Finder Not working, Group 'Style' selection feedback and Competitive, Relaxed, Learning, Carry Offered. Common points are that one more required click slows down simple dungeon groups, and that "Carry Offered" sounds odd in a game whose rules ban advertising paid carries in the Group Finder.

Speculation. One more line of interface text arrived by hotfix for the same build: GlobalStrings row 60457, DESCRIPTION_OF_YOUR_GROUP_MANDATORY, "More details about your group". Its tag suggests a group description you must fill in, but we haven't seen it in game, so it may be unused for now.
