Warlock Talent builds

Rotations & Guide · PvE guide · PvP guide · Talent builds · Abilities · Talent Calculator · Macros · Changes vs Classic

Other classes: Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Druid

Warlocks are DoT and shadow casters with demon pets and strong self-sustain via Life Tap. Forever splits Curses and Banes (Bane of Agony and Bane of Doom can stack with a Curse like Curse of the Elements), adds Wrack as the channelled Affliction capstone, and gives Destruction the Conflagrate, Bane of Havoc and Incinerate talents.

Affliction: Instant Corruption and stronger drains (level 20)

The easiest way to level a Warlock to 20. Five points make Corruption instant, Improved Drains makes Drain Life heal 20% more, and Improved Life Tap gets 20% more Mana out of every tap, so you chain pulls with very little rest.

Send the Voidwalker in, then put instant Corruption, Bane of Agony and a curse on the mob. Curses and Banes are separate in Forever, so Bane of Agony sits alongside Curse of Weakness, the best solo curse against melee mobs. Fill with Shadow Bolt, Life Tap when Mana runs low, and Drain Life the health back: Improved Drains makes every tick count. Finish mobs with Drain Soul when you need Soul Shards. Because Corruption is instant, you can put it on the next mob while the first one is still dying. Soul Siphon, which boosts your drains for each of your effects on the target, now sits in tier 5 and opens at 30.

Affliction: Hit and low threat for groups (level 20)

A group build for level 20 dungeons: Suppression adds 5% hit and cuts your threat by 20%, Improved Corruption makes Corruption instant for quick multi-dotting, and Amplify Curse makes Bane of Agony 50% stronger on bosses.

Put Curse of the Elements on the main target, since it makes the target take more magic damage from every caster, not only you. Your Bane is separate from your curse, so Bane of Agony goes on as well, boosted by Amplify Curse on bosses. Spread instant Corruption over the pack, then fill with Shadow Bolt. Suppression lowers your threat, but DoTs on several mobs still add up, so give the tank a moment before you start dotting. Keep Life Tap for quiet moments, when the healer can top you up.

Affliction: Siphon Life and Nightfall (level 30)

The level 20 leveling build carried on to Siphon Life: Fel Concentration in full so you can drain while you're hit, Soul Harvest for Mana after every Drain Soul kill, a stronger Bane of Agony and Nightfall's free instant Shadow Bolts.

The loop is the same as at 20, with more to apply. Put Corruption, Bane of Agony and Siphon Life on the target, add a curse on anything that lives a while, then Shadow Bolt, and cast it at once whenever Nightfall's Shadow Trance makes it instant. Siphon Life and Drain Life win back the health Life Tap costs, and finishing mobs with Drain Soul starts Soul Harvest, so you rest far less. Fel Concentration at 3/3 lets you stand and drain while a mob hits you. Your next points after 30 go into Soul Siphon, which makes your drains stronger for each of your other Affliction effects on the target.

Affliction: Affliction for groups at 30 (level 30)

The level 20 group build taken to Siphon Life. Pandemic and Malevolence make your Shadow spells crit more often and the crits of your damage-over-time spells hit harder, Improved Bane of Agony and Amplify Curse strengthen Bane of Agony on bosses, and Nightfall gives free instant Shadow Bolts. Suppression keeps your hit up and your threat down the whole way. Malediction, which this build used to take, became Grim Reach in the 16 October build, and Grim Reach only adds 10% or 20% to the range of your Affliction spells.

On bosses, keep up Curse of the Elements, Corruption, Bane of Agony (after Amplify Curse) and Siphon Life, then Shadow Bolt. Take Nightfall's instant Shadow Bolts as they come. Pandemic and Malevolence need no button: more of your Shadow spells crit, and crits from your DoTs and drains hit harder. On trash, instant Corruption on each mob is your best tool. Bane of Agony and Siphon Life only pay off on mobs that live a while. Suppression keeps your threat down, but wait for the tank's first few hits before dotting a whole pack. Life Tap when the healer has room, and let Siphon Life earn some of it back. After 30, the rest of Pandemic and Malevolence, Soul Siphon and Shadow Mastery (35) are the next steps, and Wrack arrives at 40.

Affliction: Wrack and Shadow Mastery leveling (level 40)

The level 30 leveling build run down to Wrack. Soul Siphon makes your drains stronger for each of your other Affliction effects on the mob, Shadow Mastery adds 10% to every Shadow spell, and Wrack is a short instant DoT that makes your other Shadow DoTs hit harder. One point of Suppression completes the 25 points Shadow Mastery needs.

Put Corruption, Bane of Agony and Siphon Life on the mob, then Wrack while all three tick, and fill with Shadow Bolt, at once whenever Nightfall makes it instant. Soul Siphon turns Drain Life into a strong heal once your DoTs are up, so drain when you're hurt instead of eating. Finish with Drain Soul for Soul Harvest's Mana. Howl of Terror (40) scatters a group of mobs that reach you. Level 40 is above the beta's level 30 cap: this build is planned from the talent data in the client and hasn't been played yet.

Affliction: Affliction for groups at 40 (level 40)

The level 30 group build finished to Wrack: the rest of Pandemic and Malevolence, so your Shadow spells crit 5% more often and DoT crits get the full 100% bonus, Shadow Mastery for 10% more Shadow damage, and Wrack to make the DoTs on a boss hit harder. One point of Improved Life Tap rounds out the 25 points Shadow Mastery needs.

Curse of the Elements and your DoTs on the boss, then Wrack, and Shadow Bolt between refreshes. With Malevolence and Pandemic in full, more of your DoT ticks crit and those crits hit twice as hard as a normal crit bonus would make them. On trash, instant Corruption on each mob is still your best tool; save Wrack and Siphon Life for mobs that live. Suppression keeps 20% of your threat off the meter, but give the tank a few hits first on a big pull. Level 40 is above the current level 30 cap, so this build comes from the client's talent data and hasn't been tried in a dungeon yet.

Affliction: Full Shadow crit leveling (level 50)

The level 40 leveling build with ten more points: Malevolence in full for 5% more Shadow crit, Pandemic in full so your DoT and drain crits have a 100% larger bonus, and two more ranks of Suppression for hit.

The same loop as at 40: Corruption, Bane of Agony and Siphon Life, then Wrack, then Shadow Bolt, with Drain Life when you need health and Drain Soul to finish. Death Coil (42) is your emergency button: it sends a mob running for 3 sec and heals you for the damage it deals. Hellfire rank 2 (42) and Rain of Fire rank 3 (46) handle bigger pulls if you are healthy. Level 50 is above the beta's level 30 cap: the build follows the client's talent text and nobody has played it.

Affliction: Affliction with Bane and Improved Shadow Bolt (level 50)

Affliction is full to Wrack at 40, so the next ten points go into Destruction tier 1: Bane takes 0.5 sec off every Shadow Bolt, and Improved Shadow Bolt makes the target take 20% more Shadow damage after your Shadow Bolt crits, which also lifts every DoT you have on it.

Keep Curse of the Elements (rank 4 at 50 raises magic damage taken by 10%), Corruption, Bane of Agony, Siphon Life and Wrack on the boss, and fill with the faster Shadow Bolt. Improved Shadow Bolt then keeps the target taking more Shadow damage from everything you have on it. Soul Fire (48) is a long cast that costs a Soul Shard, so it is a pull opener at most. Death Coil (42) frees you from a mob that turns on you. Level 50 is above the current level 30 cap, and this build is worked out from the client's talent data, not from play.

Affliction: Affliction with Bane for open-world play (level 60)

At 60 the Affliction tree has everything this build wants, plus the rest of Suppression for 5% more hit. The last eight points go into Destruction: Bane for faster Shadow Bolts and Cataclysm to make Shadow Bolt and Immolate cheaper.

DoTs first, then Wrack, then Shadow Bolt, faster now with Bane, and Drain Life when you're hurt. Bane of Doom (60) is for elites and quest bosses that will live past a minute; it shares the Bane slot with Bane of Agony, so pick one. Howl of Terror rank 2 (54) holds up to 5 nearby enemies for 15 sec, and Fear rank 3 (56) lasts up to 20 sec. Level 60 is the launch cap but above the beta's level 30 cap: this build is planned from the client's data and hasn't been played.

Affliction: Affliction at 60 for dungeons (level 60)

The level 50 group build with the drain talents added: Improved Drains and Soul Siphon make Wrack and Drain Soul hit hard on a target covered in your DoTs, Improved Life Tap goes to 2/2, and Cataclysm makes Shadow Bolt cheaper.

Curse of the Elements, Corruption, Bane of Agony or Bane of Doom, Siphon Life and Wrack, then Shadow Bolt. Bane of Doom deals its damage after 1 min, so it suits bosses; it shares the Bane slot with Bane of Agony. With Improved Drains and Soul Siphon, Drain Soul is a strong finisher once the boss is low. Keep threat in mind on crits even with Suppression. Level 60 is above the beta's level 30 cap, so this build is drawn from the client's talent data and has not been run in a dungeon.

Affliction: Instant DoTs and drain-tanking (level 20)

A level 20 PvP build around instant Corruption and Drain Life. Improved Corruption lets you apply Corruption while you move, Improved Drains makes Drain Life heal 20% more while a melee player hits you, and two ranks of Suppression make fewer of your Fears and curses miss. Compared with the dungeon build you give up three ranks of Suppression and Amplify Curse for stronger drains and a first rank of Fel Concentration.

Keep Demon Armor up and the Voidwalker out: its Sacrifice is your shield when someone jumps you. Open from as far away as you can with instant Corruption, Bane of Agony and a curse. Use Curse of Weakness on melee players and Curse of the Elements on casters. Fear the first melee player who reaches you, then use the time for Shadow Bolt, Immolate or your Healthstone. With DoTs ticking, the Fear may break early, so Fear again when it does. When a melee player sticks to you anyway, stand and Drain Life: Improved Drains makes every tick heal more. Life Tap only when nobody is attacking you.

Affliction: Curse of Exhaustion kiting (level 30)

The level 20 PvP build taken to Curse of Exhaustion and Siphon Life. You keep instant Corruption and drain-tanking, add Nightfall's instant Shadow Bolts and a 30% slow that lets you walk away from melee players while your DoTs tick, and Siphon Life heals you through the fight. Compared with the dungeon build you take Improved Drains, Fel Concentration and Curse of Exhaustion instead of Pandemic, Malevolence and two ranks of Suppression.

Open with instant Corruption, Bane of Agony and Siphon Life, then put Curse of Exhaustion on a melee player and walk away while your DoTs tick. Press Amplify Curse first when it is ready, for a stronger slow. When the slow runs out or they close in anyway, Fear them and curse them again. Spend every Shadow Trance from Nightfall at once: an instant Shadow Bolt can't be interrupted. Against a player who sticks to you, switch to Curse of Weakness and stand in Drain Life with your DoTs up; Fel Concentration keeps it going through their hits. Against casters, Curse of Tongues (26) is the better curse.

Affliction: Curse of Exhaustion and Wrack (level 40)

The level 30 PvP build taken to Wrack: Soul Siphon makes Drain Life heal more for each of your Affliction effects on the target, Shadow Mastery adds 10% to all your Shadow damage, and Wrack is another instant DoT you can cast while kiting. A fourth rank of Suppression completes the points Shadow Mastery needs.

Instant Corruption, Bane of Agony and Siphon Life, Curse of Exhaustion on a melee player, then Wrack and walk away while everything ticks. Fear (rank 2 at 32 lasts up to 15 sec) when they close, and Drain Life when they don't let go: Soul Siphon makes it heal far more with your DoTs up. Howl of Terror (40) handles two or more players at once, and Shadow Ward (32) soaks a Shadow Priest's or Warlock's burst. Level 40 is above the beta's level 30 cap, so this is planned from the client's talent data, not played.

Affliction: Exhaustion, Wrack and Shadow crits (level 50)

The level 40 PvP build with Malevolence in full and two ranks of Pandemic for harder DoT crits, the last rank of Suppression, and Grim Reach so your DoTs, curses and Fear reach 20% further.

The same kiting plan as at 40, from further away: Grim Reach adds 20% to the range of your Affliction spells. Death Coil (42) is instant, sends a player running for 3 sec and heals you for its damage, so it breaks a melee player's hold or stops a cast. Curse of Tongues rank 2 (50) makes a healer's casts take 60% longer. Level 50 is above the current level 30 cap, so this build is planned from the client's talent data and has not been tried against players.

Affliction: Affliction at 60 with Demonic Embrace (level 60)

The level 50 PvP build with the last rank of Pandemic and Improved Life Tap, then seven points in Demonology for survival: Demonic Embrace for 15% more Stamina and Demonic Aegis for a stronger Demon Armor.

Kite as before: DoTs, Wrack and Curse of Exhaustion, then walk, Fear and Death Coil. Fear rank 3 (56) lasts up to 20 sec and Howl of Terror rank 2 (54) up to 15 sec. Demonic Embrace and Demonic Aegis make you harder to burst while your DoTs win the long fight. Level 60 is above the beta's level 30 cap: this build follows the client's talent data and hasn't been played.

Demonology: Tough Voidwalker leveling (level 20)

A safe, low-downtime leveling build. Demonic Embrace adds 15% Stamina, Improved Voidwalker makes the Voidwalker hold mobs and heal better, Demonic Energies heals it for part of your damage and shares your Life Tap Mana with it, and Master Summoner makes re-summoning quicker.

Let the Voidwalker pull and hold the mob, then put Bane of Agony, Corruption and a curse on it and fill with Shadow Bolt. Curse of Weakness is a good standing curse here, since it also lowers the damage your Voidwalker takes. Demonic Energies heals the Voidwalker with every spell you land, so you rarely need Health Funnel; channel it only when the Voidwalker gets low. With the extra Stamina you can Life Tap freely, and each tap refills your demon's Mana too. Corruption keeps its cast time in this build, so cast it while the Voidwalker takes the first hits.

Demonology: Imp damage for groups (level 20)

A group build around the Imp, which stays at range where it rarely dies. Improved Imp adds 30% to its Firebolt and Fire Shield, Unholy Power 10% to all its damage, and Demonic Energies keeps it healed and gives it your Life Tap Mana, so it keeps casting through long fights.

Keep the Imp out and let it cast Firebolt at the tank's target from range. Improved Imp and Unholy Power make it a real part of your damage, and its Fire Shield on the tank is stronger too. Put Curse of the Elements on the main target, since it helps you, the Imp and every other caster, then Bane of Agony, Corruption and Immolate, and fill with Shadow Bolt. When you Life Tap, Demonic Energies gives the Imp the same Mana, so it doesn't run dry. Keep the Imp away from pack pulls where it could take area damage, since re-summoning takes a long cast.

Demonology: Soul Link leveling (level 30)

The level 20 leveling build taken to Soul Link: 30% of the damage you take goes to your demon, and you both deal 3% more. Fel Vitality and Demonic Aegis make you and the Voidwalker tougher, and Master Summoner with Fel Domination brings a new demon out almost at once. Demonic Sacrifice is taken only because Soul Link needs it.

Summon the Voidwalker, cast Soul Link and keep both up. Let the Voidwalker pull, then Bane of Agony, Corruption and a curse, and fill with Shadow Bolt. Soul Link moves part of the damage you take onto the Voidwalker, so watch its health as well as yours: Demonic Energies heals it for part of your damage, and Health Funnel covers the rest. If it dies, press Fel Domination, summon again and recast Soul Link. Demonic Sacrifice is on your bar only because Soul Link needs it; using it would throw both away. Unholy Power and Demonic Knowledge are good places for the points after 30.

Demonology: Imp and Demonic Knowledge at 30 (level 30)

The level 20 Imp build taken to Demonic Knowledge, which adds spell damage to you and the Imp while it is out. Decimation makes Shadow Bolt stronger on low-health targets, Fel Domination gets the Imp back after a wipe, and Fel Vitality gives you a deeper Mana pool. It keeps the Imp instead of using Demonic Sacrifice, which would give it up.

Keep the Imp out and attacking the tank's target, with Curse of the Elements up so both of you deal more damage. Apply Bane of Agony, Corruption and Immolate, and fill with Shadow Bolt; once the target drops below 35% health, Decimation makes each Shadow Bolt hit harder. Demonic Knowledge only works while a demon is out, which is one more reason to keep the Imp alive. If it dies mid-pull, Fel Domination gets it back quickly. Demonic Sacrifice (tier 3) is left out: in Forever, sacrificing the Imp gives 15% Shadow damage, but you lose everything Improved Imp, Unholy Power and Demonic Knowledge give.

Demonology: Demonic Pact leveling (level 40)

The level 30 Soul Link build taken to Demonic Pact, which keeps a Demonic Sacrifice buff when you summon a different demon. Sacrifice the Felhunter for its health regeneration, then summon the Voidwalker and Soul Link it. Demonic Knowledge in full adds spell damage while a demon is out, and Master Demonologist gives the Voidwalker and you 10% less Physical damage taken.

Before you set off, summon the Felhunter, Demonic Sacrifice it, then summon the Voidwalker (Fel Domination makes it quick) and cast Soul Link. The Felhunter's sacrifice heals you 3% of your Health every 4 sec for 2 hours, the Voidwalker takes 10% less Physical damage from Master Demonologist and 30% of your damage through Soul Link, and you both deal 3% more. Then DoT, Shadow Bolt and Health Funnel as at 30. Summoning a Felhunter again ends the buff. Level 40 is above the beta's level 30 cap: Demonic Pact and this plan come from the client's talent text and haven't been played.

Demonology: Sacrificed Imp and a Succubus (level 40)

At 40 the group build changes demon. Demonic Pact lets you sacrifice the Imp for 15% more Shadow damage and keep it, so the Succubus fights next to you, and Master Demonologist with a Succubus out adds 10% Shadow damage for both of you. Improved Imp's 3 points move to Improved Sayaad for a stronger Lash of Pain, and Soul Link joins because Demonic Pact needs it.

Summon the Imp, Demonic Sacrifice it, then summon the Succubus and cast Soul Link: you have 15% more Shadow damage from the sacrifice, 10% from Master Demonologist and 3% from Soul Link, and Demonic Knowledge adds spell damage while she's out. Send her in after the tank. Bane of Agony, Corruption and Shadow Bolt, with Decimation's harder Shadow Bolts below 35%. She is a melee demon, so watch her health on fights with area damage, and use Health Funnel. Level 40 is above the current level 30 cap: this build reads the client's talent text and hasn't been played in a group.

Demonology: Demonic Pact with Unholy Power (level 50)

The level 40 leveling build with Unholy Power in full for a harder-hitting Voidwalker, Decimation for fast Soul Fires on dying mobs, and three points in Improved Corruption to shorten Corruption's cast.

Sacrifice the Felhunter, then the Voidwalker and Soul Link, as at 40. Bane of Agony, Corruption and Shadow Bolt, and when the mob drops below 35%, one Shadow Bolt starts Decimation: Soul Fire (48) then casts 40% faster and costs no Soul Shard for 10 sec. Death Coil (42) heals you and sends a mob running for 3 sec. Level 50 is above the beta's level 30 cap, so this is a plan from the client's talent data, not a tested build.

Demonology: Succubus Demonology with Bane (level 50)

The level 40 group build with ten points in Destruction: Bane takes 0.5 sec off Shadow Bolt and 2 sec off Soul Fire, and Improved Shadow Bolt makes the target take 20% more Shadow damage after a Shadow Bolt crit.

Sacrifice the Imp, summon the Succubus, Soul Link, then curse and DoT the boss and fill with Shadow Bolt. Once it's below 35%, a Shadow Bolt starts Decimation: alternate Shadow Bolt and Soul Fire, which then costs no shard, casts 40% faster and comes back far sooner. Curse of the Elements rank 4 (50) adds 10% magic damage taken. Level 50 is above the beta's level 30 cap, and the build is taken from the client's talent data without play behind it.

Demonology: Demonic Pact with instant Corruption (level 60)

The level 50 leveling build with Improved Corruption in full for an instant Corruption, then Improved Drains, Improved Life Tap and three ranks of Suppression from the Affliction tree.

Sacrifice the Felhunter, Voidwalker out, Soul Link up. Instant Corruption and Bane of Agony on the mob, Shadow Bolt, then Decimation and Soul Fire below 35%. Drain Life, Health Funnel and the Felhunter's sacrifice keep you both going. Bane of Doom (60) suits elites that live past a minute. Level 60 is the launch cap but above the beta's level 30 cap: this build comes from the client's talent data and hasn't been played.

Demonology: Succubus Demonology at 60 (level 60)

The level 50 group build with Cataclysm and Ruin from Destruction, so Shadow Bolt and Soul Fire cost less and their crits hit twice as hard, and two more ranks of Demonic Embrace.

The same as at 50: Imp sacrificed, Succubus out with Soul Link, curse, DoTs and Shadow Bolt, then Shadow Bolt and Soul Fire together once Decimation is up. Bane of Doom (60) on a boss that lives past a minute, in place of Bane of Agony. Level 60 is above the beta's level 30 cap, so this build is planned from the client's data and has not been run in a dungeon.

Demonology: Tough Warlock with a Voidwalker shield (level 20)

The hardest Warlock to kill at 20. Demonic Embrace adds 15% Stamina, Demonic Aegis makes Demon Armor 30% stronger, Improved Voidwalker makes the Voidwalker's Sacrifice shield 30% more effective, and Master Summoner shortens the summon you need after using it. Compared with the dungeon build you give up the Imp talents for survival, since the Voidwalker is the demon that protects you.

Keep the Voidwalker out and Demon Armor up, and carry a Healthstone. Open with Bane of Agony and a curse, Curse of Weakness on melee players; Corruption keeps its cast time in this build, so cast it from range. Then Shadow Bolt or Immolate while the Voidwalker gets in the way. When you start taking real damage, use the Voidwalker's Sacrifice: you get a damage shield, and while it holds, damage doesn't interrupt your casting. Fear the attacker, Drain Life, and use your Healthstone when you are low. You deal less damage than an Affliction or Destruction Warlock at this level, so you win by outlasting the other player rather than out-damaging them.

Demonology: Soul Link and fast summons (level 30)

The level 20 PvP build taken to Soul Link. Your demon takes 30% of the damage meant for you, Fel Vitality makes it last longer, and Fel Domination with Master Summoner makes a summon almost instant, so after the Voidwalker's Sacrifice you can bring out a new demon mid-fight. Improved Sayaad makes Seduction last 30% longer. Compared with the dungeon build you trade the Imp's damage talents for survival, summoning and crowd control.

Start fights with the Voidwalker out and Soul Link on: DoT the target, curse melee players with Curse of Weakness, and let the Voidwalker soak part of every hit. When it is about to die, use its Sacrifice for the shield, then press Fel Domination and summon again; with Master Summoner the summon is almost instant. Recast Soul Link on the new demon. Bring back a Voidwalker for another Sacrifice, or the Succubus: the client lists Seduction at level 26, and Improved Sayaad makes it last longer. Seduction works only on Humanoids and any damage breaks it, so don't DoT that target while it lasts. Against casters, the Felhunter (30) brings Devour Magic, which can strip a buff from an enemy or a harmful magic effect from you. Your damage is still modest; your edge is that you almost never fight without a demon.

Demonology: Demonic Pact and Felhunter for PvP (level 40)

The level 30 PvP build taken to Demonic Pact. Sacrifice the Felhunter for 3% of your Health every 4 sec, then summon the Voidwalker or Succubus and keep the buff. Master Demonologist adds a defensive bonus for the demon you have out, and Improved Felhunter makes Spell Lock come back 6 sec sooner when you keep the Felhunter instead.

Out of combat, summon the Felhunter and sacrifice it, then summon the Voidwalker (against melee) or the Succubus (for Seduction) and Soul Link it. If the enemy team is mostly casters, do it the other way round: sacrifice the Voidwalker and keep the Felhunter for Spell Lock and Master Demonologist's 10% less Magic damage. DoT, Fear and Curse of Weakness as at 30, and Shadow Ward (32) soaks Shadow damage for 30 sec. Level 40 is above the beta's level 30 cap: this plan comes from the client's talent text and hasn't been tried against players.

Demonology: Demonic Pact with Demonic Knowledge (level 50)

The level 40 PvP build with Unholy Power for more demon damage, Demonic Energies so your demon heals from your spells, and Demonic Knowledge in full for spell damage equal to your level while a demon is out.

Sacrifice one demon and fight with another, as at 40, then add damage: Demonic Knowledge and Unholy Power make both of you hit harder. Death Coil (42) is an instant 3 sec horror that heals you, the answer to a Rogue or Warrior who gets close. Curse of Tongues rank 2 (50) slows a healer's casts by 60%. Level 50 is above the current level 30 cap, so this build comes from the client's data and nobody has played it.

Demonology: Demonic Pact with instant Corruption (level 60)

The level 50 PvP build with ten points in Affliction: Improved Corruption for an instant Corruption, Improved Drains for a stronger Drain Life, and two ranks of Suppression for hit.

Sacrifice, summon, Soul Link, then instant Corruption, Bane of Agony and a curse, Fear, and Drain Life when they stay on you. Fear rank 3 (56) lasts up to 20 sec and Howl of Terror rank 2 (54) up to 15 sec. Level 60 is above the beta's level 30 cap, and this is planned from the client's talent data, not from play.

Destruction: Fast casts, cheap spells (level 20)

A nuking leveling build. Bane takes 0.5 sec off Shadow Bolt and Immolate, Cataclysm makes your Destruction spells 10% cheaper, Molten Skin cuts the damage you take, and Shadowburn gives you an instant finisher that also collects Soul Shards.

Open with Immolate, add Bane of Agony and Corruption, and finish with Shadow Bolt, which Bane makes faster to cast. When a mob is almost dead, Shadowburn finishes it instantly and gives you a Soul Shard; Searing Pain is the quick cast when Shadowburn is on cooldown. Cataclysm stretches your Mana, so you Life Tap less often, and Molten Skin makes the hits that get through a little softer. Corruption keeps its cast time in this build, so it is worth casting only on mobs that will live through its ticks. The Voidwalker is the safest demon to keep out while you level.

Destruction: Fast Shadow Bolts for groups (level 20)

The strongest personal damage at 20. Bane makes Shadow Bolt and Immolate cast 0.5 sec faster, Cataclysm makes them 10% cheaper, Improved Shadow Bolt's crits make the target take more Shadow damage, and Shadowburn adds an instant hit on a short cooldown.

Put Curse of the Elements on the kill target, Immolate anything that will survive its burn, then chain Shadow Bolts and use Shadowburn whenever it's ready. There is no threat reduction in this tree. Let the tank get a few hits in first, and don't use Searing Pain in groups, since it causes a lot of threat. Rain of Fire handles packs of three or more once the tank has them.

Destruction: Conflagrate leveling at 30 (level 30)

The level 20 leveling build carried to Conflagrate, which consumes your Immolate for an instant burst of Fire damage. Agonizing Flames adds 10% to all your Destruction spells, full Molten Skin cuts the damage you take by 10%, and Intensity keeps your casts going when a mob reaches you.

Open with Immolate, then Conflagrate it for an instant burst and follow with Shadow Bolt. On a mob that will live a while, let Immolate tick first and Conflagrate when it is nearly done. Re-apply Immolate after each Conflagrate on anything still standing. Shadowburn finishes a nearly dead mob and gives you a Soul Shard. Agonizing Flames makes all of this 10% stronger, and Molten Skin and Intensity keep you casting when a mob reaches you. After 30, Bane of Havoc and Fire and Brimstone (tier 5) are the next steps.

Destruction: Conflagrate and Bane of Havoc for groups (level 30)

All 21 points in Destruction for the most personal damage at 30: Agonizing Flames adds 10% to all your Destruction spells, full Improved Shadow Bolt makes the target take 20% more Shadow damage after your crits, Conflagrate adds an instant Fire burst, and Bane of Havoc copies 15% of your damage onto a second mob.

Curse of the Elements on the kill target, Bane of Havoc on a second mob that will live a while, Immolate on anything that will last its burn, then Shadow Bolt. Conflagrate when Immolate is nearly done and re-apply Immolate, and weave Shadowburn in whenever it is ready. Your damage is high and this tree has nothing to lower threat, so start a little after the tank and stop casting for a moment if a mob turns toward you. Use Rain of Fire on packs, and Hellfire only when the healer is ready for it.

Destruction: Incinerate leveling (level 40)

The level 30 leveling build taken to Incinerate, which hits 25% harder on a target with your Immolate. Shadow and Flame in full means Conflagrate no longer consumes Immolate and gives you 10% more Shadow damage, Shadowburn gives 10% more Fire damage, and Fire and Brimstone makes Conflagrate crit more. Bane of Havoc is the arrow to Incinerate.

Immolate, then Conflagrate, which keeps your Immolate now, then Incinerate until the mob dies. Shadowburn whenever it's ready: it gives back its Soul Shard and adds 10% Fire damage for 20 sec, which Incinerate and Immolate gain from. Molten Skin and Intensity still keep you casting when a mob reaches you, and Howl of Terror (40) handles a group. Level 40 is above the beta's level 30 cap: this loop is read from the client's talent text and hasn't been played.

Destruction: Incinerate and Bane of Havoc for groups (level 40)

The level 30 group build taken to Incinerate. Fire and Brimstone and a third rank of Ruin make Conflagrate crit often and hard, Shadow and Flame keeps your Immolate up through every Conflagrate and adds 10% Shadow and 10% Fire damage, and Incinerate hits 25% harder on Immolated targets.

Curse of the Elements (rank 3 at 40 adds 8% magic damage taken) and Immolate on the boss, Bane of Havoc on a second target that will live. Conflagrate and Shadowburn on cooldown: neither costs you Immolate or shards any more, and they keep 10% Shadow and 10% Fire damage up. Fill with Incinerate while Immolate is on the target. Your threat is high and there is still nothing in the tree to lower it. Level 40 is above the current level 30 cap, so this rotation comes from the client's talent data and hasn't been tested in a group.

Destruction: Incinerate with full Ruin (level 50)

The level 40 leveling build with Ruin in full for 100% more crit damage, Aftermath for a 50% stronger first hit from Immolate and a daze on every Conflagrate, and the last rank of Intensity.

Immolate, Conflagrate, Shadowburn when ready, then Incinerate; Aftermath dazes the mob on every Conflagrate, and Death Coil (42) is there when one reaches you anyway. Soul Fire (48) is a long cast with a long cooldown that costs a Soul Shard, so use it to open on a tough mob. Level 50 is above the beta's level 30 cap, so this build is taken from the client's talent data and nobody has levelled with it.

Destruction: Incinerate with Aftermath and Intensity (level 50)

The level 40 group build with Ruin in full, Aftermath for a 50% bigger first hit from every Immolate, and Intensity so you keep casting through stray damage.

As at 40: Curse of the Elements (10% at rank 4 from 50) and Immolate, Bane of Havoc on a second target, Conflagrate and Shadowburn on cooldown, Incinerate in between. Full Ruin makes your crits much bigger, so pull threat less by holding Conflagrate for a moment after the tank's opener. Level 50 is above the beta's level 30 cap: this build is planned from the client's data, not tested.

Destruction: Destruction at 60 for open-world play (level 60)

The level 50 leveling build with the rest of the Destruction tree: Improved Shadow Bolt, Destructive Reach for 20% more range, Pyroclasm so Rain of Fire and Hellfire can stun, and one point of Demonic Embrace.

Immolate, Conflagrate, Shadowburn and Incinerate on single mobs. On a big pull, Rain of Fire or Hellfire with Pyroclasm's stuns, and Howl of Terror rank 2 (54) for up to 15 sec of fear. Level 60 is the launch cap but above the beta's level 30 cap: nothing here has been played, and the build follows the client's talent data.

Destruction: Destruction at 60 with Suppression (level 60)

The level 50 group build with Suppression in full from Affliction, for 5% more hit and 20% less threat, which Destruction has no other way to get. Destructive Reach and Pyroclasm come from the Destruction tree, and one point of Molten Skin.

The loop is the same: Curse of the Elements, Immolate, Bane of Havoc on a second target, Conflagrate and Shadowburn on cooldown, Incinerate between them. Suppression lets you start sooner after the pull. On trash, Rain of Fire with Pyroclasm can stun several mobs at once. Level 60 is above the beta's level 30 cap, so this is a plan from the client's talent data, not a tested build.

Destruction: Shadowburn burst (level 20)

A burst build for level 20 PvP. Bane makes Shadow Bolt and Immolate cast 0.5 sec faster, Molten Skin cuts all damage you take by 10%, and Shadowburn gives you an instant finisher for a player who is running or about to heal. Compared with the dungeon build you take Molten Skin instead of Cataclysm and Improved Shadow Bolt: in a short fight, taking less damage is worth more than saving Mana.

Keep the Voidwalker out and Demon Armor up. Its Sacrifice gives you a shield, and while the shield holds, damage doesn't interrupt your casting, which is what a Shadow Bolt caster needs. Open with Curse of the Elements (Curse of Weakness on melee players), then Immolate and Shadow Bolt, which Bane speeds up. Put Bane of Agony on anyone who will be around for a while. When the target drops low or runs, Shadowburn. Searing Pain is your quick cast when there's no time for a Shadow Bolt; its high threat doesn't matter against players. Corruption has its full cast time in this build, so rely on instant Bane of Agony, curses and Shadowburn when you have to move. Fear anyone who reaches melee range before you start a long cast. This build hits hardest but lasts the least of the three, even with Molten Skin, so pick fights you can finish fast.

Destruction: Conflagrate daze and Intensity (level 30)

The level 20 PvP build taken to Conflagrate. Aftermath at 5/5 makes Immolate's first hit 50% stronger and makes every Conflagrate daze the target, slowing it by 50%; Intensity lets you finish casts while you are hit; and Shadowburn still finishes runners. Compared with the dungeon build you trade Cataclysm, Improved Shadow Bolt, Ruin, Bane of Havoc and two ranks of Agonizing Flames for Molten Skin, Aftermath and Intensity.

Open with Curse of Weakness on melee players (Curse of the Elements on casters), then Immolate, which Aftermath front-loads. Conflagrate for burst and a daze, and walk back to range while they are slowed; re-apply Immolate so Conflagrate has something to consume next time. Shadow Bolt when you have room, Shadowburn when they drop low or run. Intensity lets you finish a Shadow Bolt while a melee player hits you, but it doesn't stop a Kick or Shield Bash, so Fear them first when you can. A Firestone (28) adds spell crit and Fire damage, and Curse of Tongues (26) slows an enemy healer's casts.

Destruction: Incinerate and Conflagrate daze (level 40)

The level 30 PvP build taken to Incinerate. Shadow and Flame keeps Immolate on the target through Conflagrate, so you can Conflagrate and daze them every time it is ready, and Fire and Brimstone makes those Conflagrates crit far more often. Bane of Havoc opens Incinerate.

Curse, Immolate, Conflagrate for burst and the daze, then walk back to range and Incinerate. Conflagrate keeps Immolate now, so you can daze them again as soon as it is ready. Shadowburn to finish, and it gives back its shard. Howl of Terror (40) clears melee players off you, and Shadow Ward (32) absorbs Shadow damage for 30 sec. Level 40 is above the beta's level 30 cap: this build is planned from the client's talent data and hasn't been tried in PvP.

Destruction: Conflagrate burst with full Ruin (level 50)

The level 40 PvP build with Agonizing Flames and Ruin in full for burst, and Cataclysm to keep your Mana going through a long battleground.

Immolate, Conflagrate and Shadowburn are your burst, all instant except Immolate, and Death Coil (42) adds an instant 3 sec horror that heals you. Incinerate between cooldowns while they are dazed. Soul Fire (48) is too long a cast for most PvP. Curse of Tongues rank 2 (50) slows a healer's casts by 60%. Level 50 is above the current level 30 cap, so this is planned from the client's data and hasn't been played.

Destruction: Destruction at 60 with Demonic Embrace (level 60)

The level 50 PvP build with Pyroclasm and Destructive Reach from Destruction, then Demonic Embrace in full and a point of Demonic Aegis for survival.

The same burst plan as at 50, with more health behind it and 20% more range. Fear rank 3 (56) lasts up to 20 sec, Howl of Terror rank 2 (54) up to 15 sec. Level 60 is above the beta's level 30 cap: the build follows the client's talent data and has not been played.

Popular builds

Seen in WoW Forever: 3 players (3 characters). How it works: signed-in players upload their Companion addon file (its Your talent builds setting records each character’s talents). Each character counts once per level range, at most 2 of one player’s, and no names are shown. A spec appears once 5 characters from 3 different players at that level range have uploaded, and a build once 2 players run it.
