ForeverDB (Companion): help while you play
The Companion is the part of the ForeverDB addon that helps while you play, the ForeverDB folder of the download. It isn't the addon called “Forever Companion”, which another author made.
The free in-game addon from ForeverDB.net, the World of Warcraft: Forever database. It helps by itself, and one window, opened from the book by your minimap, puts what the site knows into the game. Item and NPC tooltips show it too: new or changed in Forever, the reputation an item needs, who makes it, the recipes it's used in, who sells it and what drops it.
One download, the whole ForeverDB addon: the ForeverDB_Helper and ForeverDB folders. See everything it does.
Or install and update it with an addon app: CurseForge, Wago
What's new in the addon
v0.55.0
Four new things on the world map for launch: a search box, your trainers, camps, and quest buddies.
- Search the world map: type a zone, flight master, inn, bank, trainer, NPC, quest, rare, herb or ore and pick a result to open its map, drop a pin and point the arrow there. Small typos and Spanish names work too.
- Your class and profession trainers on the map, with how many abilities you can learn now. Hover for which ones, their cost and whether you can afford them. Forever's new training prices are noted the first time you open a trainer; until then the tooltip says the price isn't known yet.
- Camps on the map: campfires you and other ForeverDB players have sat at, with the camp features they have, the ones still missing and the ones you could add. Shared without names, and they disappear after 15 minutes like the fire.
- Quest buddies, off until you turn it on: see ForeverDB players near you on the same quest and invite them with a click to share kills. While it's on, your name, level, quests and a rough spot go only to other players who turned it on too.
- Bot check: someone farming the same place on three different days in a week is now flagged. If you turn on comparing flags, other ForeverDB players' flags can confirm a Possible bot, without ever naming anyone.
- Every text in the addon and the Helper is now in Spanish.
- The addon's window and diagnostics show the right version again (they said 0.54.1).
- Bundled ForeverDB Helper 1.6.5.
v0.54.8
Plan profession materials and search them at the Auction House.
- Add a recipe's missing reagents to a per-character shopping list from the Professions page.
- Search each item through Blizzard's Auction House search in Forever and Classic; remove materials as you buy them.
- Add all remaining materials in a profession leveling route from the Helper to the same shopping list.
- Bundled ForeverDB Helper 1.6.4.
v0.54.7
Explore how an item connects to professions, quests and recorded sources from its item menu.
- Follow recipe outputs and required materials in both directions, including profession and quantity details.
- See quest objectives, rewards and possible quest item sources, with Classic-era data labelled where it may differ in Forever.
- Review loot and vendor records, plus your own local disenchant observations. No new data is uploaded by this feature.
Install
On Linux
WoW Forever runs on Linux through Wine or Proton (Lutris, Steam, Bottles, Heroic), and the addon works there just the same. Three ways to install it:
- Easiest: the ForeverDB Uploader for Linux. It finds the game in your Wine prefix, installs both folders and keeps them and their data up to date. Paste this line in a terminal (no sudo):
curl -fsSL https://foreverdb.net/downloads/install-linux.sh | shMore about the Uploader for Linux - An addon app: the Wago app, WowUp and the CurseForge app have Linux versions, and all three list WoW Forever. They may not find a game inside a Wine prefix by themselves: add its World of Warcraft folder (below) by hand.
- By hand: download the zip above and copy
ForeverDBandForeverDB_Helperinto the game's AddOns folder.
Where the game usually is, by launcher (the names in angle brackets are your own):
- Lutris:
~/Games/battlenet/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/World of Warcraft - Steam (Proton):
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/<number>/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/World of Warcraft - Bottles:
~/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/bottles/<bottle>/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/World of Warcraft - Heroic:
~/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/<name>/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/World of Warcraft - Wine:
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/World of Warcraft
The AddOns folder is inside the WoW Forever folder in there: World of Warcraft/_forever_/Interface/AddOns. Make the AddOns folder if it isn't there.
What it does by itself
- Rotation assistant: a live icon of the spell to press next for your spec, its key, and a glow on its action button. It times cooldowns, DoTs and buffs from your casts (Forever hides them from addons in combat), waits for your target to cast before an interrupt, spends combo points at your spec's count, and skips spells your target can't take or is immune to.
- Upgrades: every item's tooltip says how it compares with what you wear, for your spec, and a new upgrade pops up with an Equip button.
- Quest rewards: the best choice for your spec is ticked.
- Level-ups: what's new at your class trainer, where your talent point goes, what you can use now, with a map pin to your trainer.
- Talents: ForeverDB's recommended build for your spec, or your own; your next talent glows in the talent window.
- Vendors and professions: what's worth buying lights up; next to your profession window, what to craft for skill and what to learn next.
- The map: your class trainers, weapon masters and profession trainers.
- Quest helper: quests you can pick up, where to hand in and your objectives as pins on the world map and the minimap; a waypoint arrow with the distance that follows the quest you pick in Blizzard's tracker, quest log or map (or click a pin, Shift- or Ctrl-click the map, or /fdb way 45.2 60.1); how far away each quest is on Blizzard's quest tracker; the ForeverDB guide beside Blizzard's quest log (where to go, what to kill or collect, what drops the items, the best reward and the quests before and after); your and the cursor's coordinates; and quest progress on creature and item tooltips. What players saw in Forever comes first; Classic data, from CMaNGOS classic-db, is labelled as such.
- Quest plan: your quest log as a route, in the order that gets you the most XP for your time (quests side by side share the trip, flight paths and your hearthstone count, quests to pick up nearby are added), on the window's Quest plan page, as numbered steps on the map and with the arrow on step 1.
- Leveling window: a small panel to keep on screen while you level, in the place of Questie's tracker: your level, your own pace and when the next level comes, how long your level takes ForeverDB players (the leveling route), the best zone for you now and the quest plan's next steps with each quest's objectives and progress.
- Dungeon helper: inside a dungeon, a small panel with the bosses killed this run, the next one, your dungeon quests and the loot you could still get; with other Companion users in your group, which of the dungeon's quests each has (quest numbers only, never names).
- Bots and gold spam: spots gold and boost spam in public chat (hidden web addresses, real-money gold prices, account and power-leveling selling) and players farming one spot for hours, can hide the spam, and offers to open Blizzard's report window for them. It never reports anyone itself and never uploads a name or a message: only anonymous counts per realm and day, the gold-selling websites and Discord invites the spam advertised (never a Skype, Telegram or WhatsApp name) and the zones where players were flagged for farming, for the gold-seller and bot tracker. You can switch sharing off.
- Auction house prices: scans your auction house when you open it (at most every 15 minutes) and puts the price on item tooltips; shared prices and quantities (never who sells) make the auction house prices page. You can switch sharing off.
Size, and only what you want
- About 5.1 MB to download. Most of it is WoW Forever data (quests, items, NPCs, recipes, gear, walking routes and gathering spots), so ForeverDB works without the website.
- Big data stays packed until you use it: walking routes, gathering spots, rares and the gear finder are unpacked only when you need them.
- Every part has its own switch, in the ForeverDB window's Settings and in Esc → Options → AddOns → ForeverDB. A part you switch off stops its work: no pins, alerts, tooltip lines or scans. Its data still loads with the addon (about 12 MB of memory for all of it).
- The first time you log in, the welcome's Pick your features page lets you untick features before you start. Open the welcome again from the window's About page.
- Scans, raid messages and pop-ups wait until the fight is over.
- Free: no paid tier, no account needed and no ads in the game.
Works with any interface
The Companion isn't an interface of its own. It works on top of whatever you play with, so you keep the bars, frames and look you like: EllesmereUI, ElvUI, Bartender4, Dominos or Blizzard's own. The rotation assistant finds the spell to press next on your action bars, lights up that button and shows the key it's bound to, with nothing to set up.
Raid tools
Raid assignments are available in the Companion. Load a code from the raid planner to see your group, role, boss assignments and notes. Out of combat, you can check the raid's requested consumables and use the coordination actions described below.
- Officers plan the raid in guild tools (Plan this raid on the event). Copy the code with Copy the Companion code, or get it in Discord with
/raid code. In the game, open the ForeverDB window's Raid & group page, press Open raid assignments, paste the code in the box and press Load code. The page shows your group and who's in it, your role, and your job on each boss. Hover a boss for its notes, or press Note beside it. - Target a boss out of combat and its notes and your job show on screen. Turn it off in the page's settings: Show a boss's notes when I target it (out of combat).
- A pre-pull check only you see: the consumables the raid asks for in your bags, food, weapon oil, enchants and durability. It also runs on ready checks, unless you untick Check myself on ready checks.
- Send assignments to the raid sends the code to raid members who run the Companion: their page updates and they see their assignment. Members can untick Take raid assignments my raid leader sends. Ready check (ForeverDB) asks members who opted in whether they carry each consumable the code asks for, and their answers show at the bottom of the page. Invite the roster invites everyone in the code who isn't in your group yet, and Seat groups moves raid members into the code's groups (raid leader or assistant).
- Every action is a button you press, and none of them runs in combat. The ForeverDB ready check is off until you tick Share my readiness with my raid leader, and then it only answers yes or no for each item asked about: never your bags, your gold or anything else. The plan stays on your PC.
PvP page
The PvP page tracks honor, honorable kills, rank and battlegrounds from the information WoW Forever makes available to addons.
- When automatic logging is on, the Companion starts the combat log when you enter a battleground or arena and stops it when you leave. You can turn this off in Settings → PvP; recorded matches can be watched on the replay page.
- Open the ForeverDB window's Raid & group page and press Open PvP: honor and honorable kills this session, today, yesterday, this week and for life, your PvP rank and how far you are to the next one, and your Honor Points against the cap. Reset session starts the session's counts again.
- Your last 100 battlegrounds: the map, when, won or lost, and your own killing blows, honorable kills, deaths and honor from the scoreboard. It stays on your PC, isn't uploaded and never keeps other players' names.
- Everything comes from the game itself. Anything WoW Forever doesn't offer to addons shows as "not available in this client" instead of a guess.
The ForeverDB window
- My character: your gear, talents and professions as a share code. Paste it on Import from game to see the character, sim it, compare its gear or save it to your armory, no other app needed.
- Finder: type an item, a weapon skill, a profession or a name, and get who sells it or teaches it, where they stand, and a map pin (TomTom's arrow if you have it).
- Professions: what to craft next to level up, coloured orange, yellow and green from your skill, with the reagents you're short of and where each recipe is learned, and the camp features your professions can place.
- Consumables: the best food, drink, potions, elixirs, scrolls and bandages you can use at your level.
- Quests: the quest helper. Your quest log with where to go for each quest, the quests you can pick up where you are, and the new Forever quests players found.
- Dungeons: the dungeon helper. The dungeon you're in or the best for your level: bosses in order with their loot (upgrades for your spec marked), boss tips, your quest checklist and the entrance.
- Talent plan: paste a build from the talent calculator and the addon tells you where each new point goes.
- Rotation: the rotation assistant's options and your spec's rotation card.
- Raid & group: the buff check, raid notes from the raid planner, and your guild's soft reserves.
- Bots & spam: players flagged for gold spam or botting in the last 7 days, with Report and Ignore, and the check's settings. Names never leave your PC.
- Auction house: scan your auction house's prices, what your bags are worth, and a search of your prices.
- Recording: automatic combat logging and what the addon records for ForeverDB, a tick box for each.
- Settings: every setting in sections, each with a line saying what it does, and Reset to defaults. The same settings are in Esc, Options, AddOns, ForeverDB, and the two always match. No slash commands needed.
On screen
Your spec's rotation card, a buff check on every ready check, raid notes from the raid planner, and automatic combat logging in dungeons and raids for the replay page.
What it records
Forever keeps quests, vendors, trainers and item stats on Blizzard's servers. The addon writes down what you see, and in dungeons and raids which boss dropped what, the abilities bosses cast and how long kills take at your level. Sharing it fills in ForeverDB for everyone, as counts that never name you. It also notes where your quest objectives happen, which fills in Forever's new quests. Sharing is optional, three ways: the free ForeverDB Uploader for Windows does it after every session (and keeps the addon up to date); or send it from your WoW folder (one click in Edge or Chrome, or drag and drop); or, for one character's armory page, paste the share code from My character on Import from game.
Updates
The Uploader updates the addon by itself. Without it, download the latest from this page: the addon's About page in the game shows your version, and this page shows the latest.
