ForeverDB Uploader
Optional. A small, free app for Windows and Linux from ForeverDB.net that works alongside the ForeverDB addon and the ForeverDB Helper. Addons can't use the internet, so the uploader does it for them, automatically. You don't need it: foreverdb.net/send does the same with a click.
What it does
- Keeps the addon up to date: installs new versions of the ForeverDB addon into your AddOns folder.
- Keeps its data fresh: vendors, trainers, recipes, camp features, consumables, new quests and talent trees, fetched whenever ForeverDB learns more.
- Shares what you recorded: after you play, uploads the quests, drops, vendors, trainers, beasts, gathering spots, talent builds and dungeon boss fights (which boss dropped what, the abilities it cast, kill times) the addon saved to your ForeverDB account.
- Keeps your armory up to date: each character's gear, talents, professions, reputations and Legacy progress, in your ForeverDB armory, private until you make a character public.
- Tells the addon: the ForeverDB window in game shows that the uploader is linked and how fresh your data is.
Help reveal Blizzard's hidden items
Blizzard hid 12,618 of the beta's items from dataminers: no name and no stats until someone finds one in game. The Uploader sends the stats your game receives, so everyone can see them. 4,794 revealed so far: see the hidden items tracker.
Without the Uploader
- Sending: send from your WoW folder on the site (choose the folder once in Edge or Chrome, then one click; or drag and drop in any browser), or copy the ForeverDB Helper's Send to ForeverDB code and paste it on foreverdb.net/send. For one character's armory page, the Companion's share code on Import from game. What you lose: it doesn't happen by itself, you press Send.
- Updates: download the latest Companion and Helper from their pages; each page shows the latest version, and the addon's About page in the game shows yours. What you lose: they don't update by themselves.
What it reads and sends
- It reads the addons' own saved files in
WTF\Account\<account>\SavedVariables: the Companion's ForeverDB.lua and, from version 1.8.0, the ForeverDB Helper's ForeverDB_Helper.lua. - From 1.8.0 it also sends the ForeverDB Helper's anonymous section when the Helper's sharing is on: runs and their times, boss kills with the loot seen and wipes, wishlist item IDs, goal kinds and where scrolls were found. Numbers and IDs only, never a name, a note or a goal's title; they become the drop rates, clear times and most wanted items on the dungeon pages.
- For the shared data it sends only what the upload page takes, with characters as a scrambled code, never their names. For your armory it sends each character's snapshot (name and realm included), which stays private until you make it public. Notes, cards, plans and settings stay on your PC.
- With the Companion's gold-spam check it may also send anonymous counts per realm and day: spam messages and suspects, the gold-selling website domains and Discord invites the spam advertised, and the zones where players were flagged for farming, for the gold-seller and bot tracker. Never a name, a message or a personal contact.
- From version 2.3.0 it also reads the game's hotfix cache,
Cache\ADB\enUS\DBCache.bin, and sends the rows of the item tables (and of the quest, spell and talent tables) in it that the site doesn't have yet: the stats Blizzard's server sent your game for items it hides from dataminers (hidden items). Game data only: never the file's header, its temporary copies or the items your game was refused. - From version 2.3.0, only if you turn it on (Share live realm data while I play, off until then), Live on your realm: while WoW runs it reads
Logs\Connection.logand the newestLogs\WoWCombatLogfile, and every 5 minutes sends one small anonymous message with the realm, the zone you're in (counted, never shown on its own), the rares and faction leaders killed (by ID, the time rounded to the minute), world buffs on you and realm disconnects. Never names, your position or chat, and it isn't tied to your account. It writes your realm's live data into the addon (Data\Live.lua) for its Live page; see the privacy policy. - It never touches the running game: no memory reading, no key presses.
- It only downloads from foreverdb.net and checks every file's SHA-256 checksum before installing it.
- From version 2.1.0 it asks once whether it may send an anonymous check-in once a day, so ForeverDB can count installs: its version, the addon's version, and whether CurseForge, Wago or the uploader updates the addon. No account, BattleTag or character; a code that changes every day counts your PC once that day and isn't stored on our side. It stays off unless you say yes; change it any time in its options (Send an anonymous daily check-in); see the privacy policy.
- From version 2.1.1, when it isn't linked to an account, it can also send the Companion's game data anonymously, if you say yes when it asks (its setting Send game data without an account, which you can change any time): quests, drops, vendors, trainers, beasts and gathering spots, never your characters, a name or your BattleTag. A random code kept on your PC tells your uploads apart; we keep only a scrambled form of it. Linking is still better: your uploads get your credit, your characters go to your armory, and boss fights and the Helper's runs go too.
- From version 2.4.0, with a Companion that records them, it also sends the paths you walked (4-yard map squares and the directions you left each one in, with no times and no character) and any Report a bad route you made in the route finder. ForeverDB merges everyone's paths into one map of where players walk, to make better routes; your own path isn't kept. After an upload it writes
Data\UploadAck.luainto the addon's folder, so the addon can forget the paths already sent and its memory stays small. - From version 2.5.0 it also sends the anonymous game facts the Companion records: the XP each quest gave, its objectives, creature levels and the XP a kill gave, kills, corpses looted and what they dropped, and how fast you level. Numbers and IDs only: no name, chat or position. Every ForeverDB install records them and passes them over a hidden addon channel to players who run the uploader, so they reach ForeverDB from players without it too; each fact counts for the install that saw it, never for the player who passed it on. After an upload it adds to
Data\UploadAck.luawhich facts reached ForeverDB, so the addon can forget them; see the privacy policy. - Linking gives it its own key that can only upload addon data; remove it from your profile at any time.
Set it up
Download ForeverDB-Helper.exe (the Uploader's file name) and run it; it finds your WoW Forever folder and can install the addon. Press Link my ForeverDB account, log in with Battle.net on foreverdb.net/uploader/link and press Link. Leave it in the system tray and play.
On Linux
The ForeverDB Uploader for Linux does what the Windows app does, in the same kind of window: it finds WoW Forever in your Wine or Proton prefix (Lutris, Steam, Bottles, Heroic or plain Wine), installs and updates the addons and their data, links your account with the same code, uploads after you play and can run in the background. Free.
Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Pop!_OS: download the .deb and open it: your software centre installs it (or type sudo apt install ./foreverdb-uploader-linux-x64.deb). Then open ForeverDB Uploader from your applications menu. To update, download the new .deb the same way.
foreverdb-uploader-linux-x64.deb · foreverdb-uploader-linux-arm64.deb
Any Linux: install it with one line in a terminal (no sudo): curl -fsSL https://foreverdb.net/downloads/install-linux.sh | sh
It downloads the uploader for your processor, checks its SHA-256 checksum, puts it in ~/.local/bin, adds ForeverDB Uploader to your applications menu and opens it. It updates itself after that.
Or download it yourself: foreverdb-uploader-linux-x64.tar.gz or foreverdb-uploader-linux-arm64.tar.gz, unpack it and run ./foreverdb-uploader.
There's no tray icon. While its window is open it uploads after you play; turn on Background in it and a systemd user service (or your desktop's autostart without systemd) keeps it going after you close the window, and starts it when you log in. Without a desktop, foreverdb-uploader menu gives you a menu in the terminal instead.
Its account key is kept in ~/.config/foreverdb-uploader/settings.json, which only your Linux user can read. (Windows encrypts it with your Windows login; Linux has nothing built in that does the same.)
