Warlock in WoW Forever: what the datamine says is coming

Warlock talent tree paintings from the WoW Forever client

· updated · ForeverDB

The WoW Forever client and Blizzard's posts show 37 new class items for Warlocks. We list them all and give our read on the class.

Speculation. This outlook is built from datamined WoW Forever client data (build 1.60.1.70707) and official Blizzard posts. The beta stopped at level 30; the game launches on 4 November with the whole of 1 to 60, and anything above level 30 is untested and can change.

What Blizzard's notes changed

Kaivax posted these Warlock changes in WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated October 15 on 16 October 2026:

  • Fixed an issue where Summon Incubus was available to summon at no Soul Shard cost with the Reagent Economy Legacy Perk.
  • Fixed an issue allowing multiple Cure of Recklessness debuffs to be active on a target.

Affliction

  • Malediction replaced with Grim Reach, which increases the range of your Affliction spells by 10/20%.
  • Shadow Mastery changed to increasing your Shadow spell damage by 2/4/6/8/10% (Was 1/2/3/4/5%).

Demonology

  • Fixed an issue where you couldn’t cast Soul Link on your pet.

Destruction

  • Destructive Reach changed to Increases the range of your Destruction spells by 10/20%.

What levels 31 to 40 bring

The beta stopped at level 30. WoW Forever launches on 4 November with the whole game to level 60, and this is what the client has for the next ten levels, 31 to 40.

Talent trees

In the client, 21 Warlock spell ranks have a different spell-power coefficient from Classic Era. The biggest changes:

Our read (speculation)

Troll Warlocks are one of Forever's new race and class combinations, but the biggest change is the split between Banes and Curses. The client's tooltips for Bane of Agony, Bane of Doom and the new Bane of Havoc talent each allow only one Bane per Warlock on a target, while Curse of the Elements, now trainable at 20, says the same about Curses. That suggests a Warlock could keep one of each on a target. Bane of Doom's spell-power coefficient also jumps from 1.0 to 4.0, the largest of the 21 Warlock coefficient changes, which could turn it from a niche pick into real damage on long fights.

Forever's talent trees reshape all three specs. Affliction gains Malediction, Improved Drains, Pandemic and Malevolence. Its tier 7 capstone at 40 is Wrack, a new Shadow spell that makes your other Shadow damage-over-time effects hit harder, and Nightfall, Soul Siphon, Improved Drains and Fel Concentration already name it. Demonology adds Demonic Energies, Demonic Aegis, Demonic Brand and Improved Felhunter, swaps Demonic Sacrifice's buffs so the Imp gives Shadow damage, and ends in Demonic Pact, which keeps a sacrifice buff when you summon a different demon. Destruction's new talents are Molten Skin, Fire and Brimstone, and Shadow and Flame.

Much of that arrives early. Demonic Sacrifice, Ruin and Shadowburn are open at 20, Conflagrate and Curse of Exhaustion at 25, and at 30 tier 5 brings Siphon Life, Soul Link, Demonic Knowledge and Bane of Havoc, alongside Hellfire from the trainer and Summon Felhunter, which Classic's The Binding quest taught. Incinerate, a former Season of Discovery rune, is now the tier 7 Destruction talent at 40, and the Bane talent already shortens its cast. Blizzard's 24 September notes had little for Warlocks: Life Tap's tooltip now says it scales with Spirit, and Voidwalker Sacrifice scales with 10% of spell healing.
