After a recent beta build left Stitches marked as a neutral mob in Duskwood, Blizzard designer Johnny Cash said on X that he is hostile once more. Blizzard's development notes have since confirmed it.

During a recent WoW: Forever beta build, players noticed that Stitches, the abomination who marches on Darkshire in Duskwood, was showing as a neutral mob rather than an enemy. Blizzard designer Johnny Cash has now said on X that this is fixed and Stitches is hostile again, as reported by Wowhead.

We first had this from Wowhead's report of Johnny Cash's post on X. It wasn't in Blizzard's official posts or development notes at the time, and the beta client files we hold don't record an NPC's faction, so we couldn't confirm it from the game files. His own X post about rejoining the WoW team as a Principal Designer backs that he is a designer on the project. Wowhead paraphrases him and we haven't found his exact words, so there's no direct quote from him yet; we'll add one if his post turns up.

Who Stitches is

In Classic Era, Stitches is an abomination the Embalmer sends down the road to Darkshire, attacking anyone who gets too close, once a player finishes "Translation to Ello", near the end of a long quest chain that starts with Abercrombie's "Supplies from Darkshire". He is one of the game's best-known low-level mobs, and most players remember him as hostile.

Levelling through Duskwood

If you are levelling through Duskwood on the beta, Stitches will come after you again, so watch the road between Darkshire and the zone's quest hubs.

Anything in the beta can still change before launch. (Update, 8 October: Blizzard's development notes now confirm it: "Stitches is once again hostile as he enters the unsuspecting town of Darkshire.")
